To pick up where I left off...
I am planning to begin training in a martial art this coming September, and until then, I will be attempting to narrow down my choice.
As of right now, the selection has been whittled down to three specific disciplines. (For the time being, anyway.)
1. Muay Thai
Are broken bones, nasal fractures, and similar injuries a common occurrence in this sport?
If they are, my old lady is going to ban me from training indefinitely once she realizes what kind of scrap I'm getting into. Damn.😢
And truthfully, I have no desire to break my body more often than absolutely necessary.
That said, the skill set seems truly impressive—essentially like kickboxing, but much more intense.
I appreciate how it focuses on actual striking with both hands and legs, along with clinching techniques, which is generally the most vital part if you ever find yourself facing an attacker.
2. Krav Maga
This feels more like a series of self-defense courses tailored to specific scenarios.
From what I have gathered while reading through various threads on this forum, there seems to be a significant amount of skepticism surrounding this method.
Is it actually worth the time and effort, or is it just hype?
3. Wing Chun
Daniel Garcia, did you mention somewhere that you have started training in this?
What is your assessment of the discipline?
Is there any truth to what someone posted here previously about seeing a guy use Wing Chun techniques to absolutely dismantle some bully at a club?
Does anyone happen to know the exact names and addresses of clubs located near the city center that offer these styles?
Thanks.
Krav Maga is alright for self-defense—depends entirely on which gym you hit up—same goes for Wing Chun, but only after you've dumped a ton of cash and years of your life into it...😛 Muay Thai is basically baked into the whole MMA chaos—pure madness. I train it myself and honestly love it, especially at those legit gyms run by the guys from the kinesiology department... they actually know their stuff, so you won't end up in a cast...
Take a look at these contacts and addresses—even if some of the clubs are missing...
Check out this directory for pro gear—basically a massive list of shops if you're looking to upgrade... useful stuff, I guess.
If you actually want to ask something specific—hit me up in the DMs...
