Pit Bull Chicago is running through their schedule until August 1st, then they’re taking a breather until September 5th. Just like a summer hiatus at a local community college—everything just grinds to a halt for a bit.

I'm way behind, honestly...🤣
First actual sparring session in a year, and even then, I was taking it easy...🙏
If they’ve got some experience from before, why not?

Hey, so I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some martial arts training around the Zagorje area? Ideally somewhere near Krapina or maybe around Stillwater... 6.2 miles Or even better, if there’s a coach out there willing to run some sessions in a smaller town just outside of Krapina, that would be killer. If anyone’s interested, hit me up!!!

Quick question for anyone in the loop regarding Subosa. I’m assuming there won't be any openings for at least nine months, but I’m curious about the Mixed Martial Arts sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Is the rate the same for part-time students as it is for full-timers? And is it even possible to join that specific group? It says "advanced," which isn't an issue since I train MMA, but I’m really just looking to fill the gaps when my regular training schedule is light. That monthly fee of $30 for those two days a week sounds perfect to me. If anyone has the inside scoop, I’d appreciate it. Best regards.

It's the same for everyone, even if you aren't a student. But heads up—there won't be any training from July 1st through early September.

Thanks... I'll check in with the group once things kick off in September.👍

Hey everyone, I have a quick question and could really use some help—would be super grateful if you could point me in the right direction.
I’m 31, living out here in San Diego, and I’ve always been fascinated by combat sports—though, unfortunately, I’ve never actually stepped onto a mat myself.
Mainly because I spent about 6 or 7 years dedicated to a different sport, so my schedule just never allowed for it.
I'm mostly drawn to Jiu Jitsu or Judo, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good gyms in the SD area that take on older beginners?
And please, don't kick me off the forum for being "too old"—I'm really hoping I haven't missed the boat!🙂
THANKS!!!

Thanks, man.
Does anyone know if they take older beginners too? — I'm a little late to the party, haha.

Oh, by the way—do they teach BJJ there too, or is it strictly Japanese Jiu-Jitsu?

Hello everyone..
Here is my situation..
I am 15 years old, weighing about 121 lbs, and I stand 5'8" tall..
I have a strong desire to take up a martial art, but there are just so many disciplines out there that I am finding it difficult to decide which path to take..
My primary objective is self-defense; I want to reach a level where, after a year or two of consistent training, I would be able to successfully defend myself if someone were to attack me..
I practiced karate from the age of 9 until I was 14, but we all seem to realize that it isn't necessarily the kind of sport that prepares you for a real-world confrontation on the street..
The frequency of the training sessions won't be an issue for me, nor will the intensity; I am currently in good physical shape because I go for runs almost every day, and I also play tennis quite frequently..
It would be ideal if the gyms were located near downtown Chicago, or at least somewhere I could reach easily by bike or via the CTA within a reasonable amount of time..
If possible, I would prefer a style that doesn't involve excessive strikes to the head; I’m not a girl, obviously, but I have no intention of looking like Muhammad Ali in a few years due to accumulated damage.🙄
Thank you 👍

You don't have to worry about Klitschko facing any real consequences. In 30 fights, he never took a hit like that... but if he stepped into the ring against someone like Frazier or Foreman, things would be different.

True, but Klitschko stands at a massive six-foot-seven and weighs about two hundred fifty pounds, whereas I currently weigh whatever it is I weigh...
Not to mention my wingspan 😁
I’m hoping someone here can point me toward the kind of training regimen I would actually need.🙂

Just head over to a Muay Thai gym—you've got two solid spots right in town, Spartan Gym and Holy Spirit. And look, regarding those headshots—brain damage risk is basically only an issue for the pros taking heavy hits all day, so you don't need to sweat it.

I have actually been giving Muay Thai some serious thought.
My only hesitation is whether it is an overly bloody sport, particularly for someone like me who is essentially a total novice at this stage. 😁
For instance, I have no desire to end up with a broken nose once a month.
Is that kind of intense injury simply the price one has to pay if they want to truly toughen themselves up?
How does the training process typically begin?
And how much time would it realistically take before I am ready to engage in more intense sparring sessions with others?
I have also been considering Krav Maga. What is the general consensus on that discipline?

There is simply no way I am getting any sleep at five in the morning.😁
To pick up where I left off...
I am planning to begin training in a martial art this coming September, and until then, I will be attempting to narrow down my choice.
As of right now, the selection has been whittled down to three specific disciplines. (For the time being, anyway.)
1. Muay Thai
Are broken bones, nasal fractures, and similar injuries a common occurrence in this sport?
If they are, my old lady is going to ban me from training indefinitely once she realizes what kind of scrap I'm getting into. Damn.😢
And truthfully, I have no desire to break my body more often than absolutely necessary.
That said, the skill set seems truly impressive—essentially like kickboxing, but much more intense.
I appreciate how it focuses on actual striking with both hands and legs, along with clinching techniques, which is generally the most vital part if you ever find yourself facing an attacker.
2. Krav Maga
This feels more like a series of self-defense courses tailored to specific scenarios.
From what I have gathered while reading through various threads on this forum, there seems to be a significant amount of skepticism surrounding this method.
Is it actually worth the time and effort, or is it just hype?
3. Wing Chun
Daniel Garcia, did you mention somewhere that you have started training in this?
What is your assessment of the discipline?
Is there any truth to what someone posted here previously about seeing a guy use Wing Chun techniques to absolutely dismantle some bully at a club?
Does anyone happen to know the exact names and addresses of clubs located near the city center that offer these styles?
Thanks.
