Sam Roberts said:Not sure what your actual goal is. If it’s just for fun, aikido is fine, but maybe wrestling would be a better pick for martial arts.

There are plenty of judo clubs around town, so it shouldn't be an issue if you don't mind driving an extra five minutes.

Thanks,
I did a little digging online, and Judo seems like a great fit. As for starting at age seven... it’s definitely not too late. 😉

Where in the States can I pick up one of those neck training harnesses—you know, the ones where you hang weights from them—and what’s the damage to my wallet? Also, if there’s a way to order something a bit more budget-friendly online, I'm all ears. One more thing: are standard neck bridges actually more effective for building mass and strength, or should I just stick to the harness and hanging weights?

I spotted one on eBay for about $27. Think it'll do the job? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Neck-Harness...item338abe5fa7

Hey everyone, I could use a little help deciding on some gloves. Here’s what I'm looking at:

I don't see any massive differences between the first two pairs, so I'm wondering if those Adidas ones are actually worth the extra cash. Generally speaking, is this a solid lineup, or is there anything sketchy about these specific models? I noticed on another thread that people weren't too happy with that particular shop, so if you have any other recommendations or better sites to buy from besides PFS, please let me know.

I hit the gym five times a week and I'll be using these strictly for heavy bag work, since I have a different pair set aside for sparring. Also, if anyone knows where to find ankle wraps that are a bit wider around the foot area, I'd appreciate the lead.

look, if you're chasing that rock-solid, immovable neck—like, pure brute force style—then yeah, go with the chains... but if you're looking for actual flexibility and want to stay ahead of the game when it comes to preventing neck injuries, then the bridge is definitely the way to go.

In my personal experience, these are basically the gold standard for gloves, and everyone I know who uses them has nothing but good things to say.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good martial art?
I’m 15 years old and I’ve been playing water polo for about three years now, so my back and shoulders are feeling pretty solid from all that training.
I’m really looking to dive into some kind of combat sport, but I’d rather skip karate or judo—I actually did judo for a year, but it just wasn't really my thing... so I’m hoping to find something a bit more high-energy and aggressive, maybe something like boxing.
Also, if you could suggest a club located near the Westside area of town, that would be amazing.
Thanks!

Amanda Barrett63 said:Looking for a decent boxing gym in Chicago with reasonable rates for three sessions a week, ideally under $67 bucks. Honestly, it’s probably not even $100 much if you want actual quality coaching, but being a student, $67 that’s pretty much my hard limit before I start skipping meals 😁 to pay for it. There's a spot run by Subos that's dirt cheap, but the classes start at 9:30 PM, which is a bit too late for me.

From what I remember, at Gladijator over in Kustošija, it was usually about $67 2x, or maybe $100 3-4-5x (weekly) 🤷 and the price was pretty solid.

They have a new facility over by Jarun now, though you should probably call and ask.

Hey everyone, does anyone here have experience with Yokkao shorts for Muay Thai? I’m trying to figure out their sizing—specifically if a Medium fits the same way it usually does here, or if they tend to run small...

http://www.muaythaicombat.com/muay-t...on-shorts.html This is the specific model I'm looking at.

Hey everyone there
I was wondering if anyone might have some insight for me
Does anyone know where I could pick up a decent boxing bag—and what kind I should look for—for a girl weighing about 130 lbs who just wants to get some light exercise in at home?
Thanks so much 🙂

Can anyone give me a quick rundown on the pros and cons of Genbukai versus Bujinkan? I'm also curious about what's actually available here in the States. I assume this has been covered extensively already, but I'd rather not dig through all 477 pages just to find an answer...
Thanks in advance for the help

P.S.
I asked over in the Ninjutsu thread, but there doesn't seem to be much activity there, so I figured I might have better luck in this topic...

Hey everyone,
I’m new here in the city, so I was wondering if anyone knows of an MMA club with decent student pricing near the "Stjepan Radić" dorms?
I heard there's a CoreMMA gym nearby and maybe a few other spots just a couple of tram stops away, but I have no clue what they're actually called or where they're located. If someone could point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it!
🙂

There’s also one over at Remiza—the tram junction by the river. There's a club there called UFK Novi Chicago, even though they aren't actually in downtown... 😁

Then you've got Black Dragon over at Mladosti. It's right next to the Best club and those basketball courts by the embankment.

That sounds pretty tempting. I've heard they have some really solid fighters over at UFK.🙂
How much are the training sessions, and how many times a week do they go at it?
I'm curious about the rates for Black Dragon too...

Boxing gloves... where can I actually find some decent ones?
That "(?)" thing is driving me crazy...
Also, where should I be looking in the city... Sport Vision or those kinds of shops, maybe that Pride spot over by Maximally, or just browse online?
Thanks!

Oz is just the measurement for how thick the padding is. Honestly, I’d just ask around at the gym to see what they recommend. I personally use 10 and 12 oz, and I’ve done boxing and MMA with them without any issues. I tried the 16 oz once, but after getting used to the 10s, it felt super weird. Just buy whatever size the guys at the club tell you to get.

Maybe try them on before you buy anything. Honestly, every manufacturer uses different molds, so what fits one might be a total disaster for another. Once you actually find a model that works for you, just hit up the internet to see if someone else is selling it for cheaper.

Hey everyone! 👋
Quick question—does anyone know if there are any MMA or BJJ gyms in Belleriville where girls can train? If there happen to be a few options, I’d love some recommendations. Thanks in advance! 🙂

So, I'm thinking about finally getting into some kind of combat sport—maybe Wing Chun, BJJ, or Kempo, I haven't quite decided yet—and I figure I probably need to grab some decent sneakers and maybe some gear that won't fall apart immediately. I guess I’m looking for recommendations on where to shop if I want that sweet spot of quality versus price. It doesn't have to be top-of-the-line, high-end stuff, just... you know, a solid middle-ground best buy. Any ideas?

If you're training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, you don't even need shoes. And you could probably wear your gi to Pride in San Francisco...
