If you're torn between starting MMA or Muay Thai, I’d say it really comes down to whether you want to dive straight into the deep end of everything at once or if you'd prefer to master the beautiful, rhythmic art of striking first. Personally, I struggle to make quick decisions, but there's something so incredibly rewarding about picking one path and just seeing where it leads! 🙂
Which one would actually be more useful? I've been weighing the options for a while now, and I can't quite decide which way to lean.
Thanks!

Hey everyone! Quick question for the experts out there—can anyone point me toward some good reading material or studies on training explosiveness for kids in the 5 to 10 age range? We're working with little fighters in combat sports, you know? Trying to get that power dialed in early without overdoing it. Any book recs or coaching guides would be huge! Thanks a million!

Look, if kids are sprinting, doing frog jumps, and throwing medicine balls—that’s it. That covers explosive power right there. You don't need to push them too hard and risk messing up their bone development.

Hey there, I have a few questions. I’m quite tall—around 6'5"—so I’m wondering which martial art would suit my build best? Also, I’m wearing fixed braces right now; how much of an issue is that going to be? Thanks in advance. 🙂

Doesn't matter which one you pick, just gotta be all in. Height ain't everything, whether you're 5'0" or 6'7"... 😉

Dedication isn't an issue for me. I've been training basketball for five years now. I have the discipline. 🙂I’ve dealt with enough injuries to know when it's time to walk away from a sport. I'm pivoting. Now, I'm looking into orthodontic appliances. I’ve seen mentions of these specialized dental gums designed specifically for use with braces. Is that actually effective? Does anyone here have real-world experience with this? I have zero interest in ending up toothless. :Đ

Hey everyone! Which martial art or combat skill is best suited for women? I’ve wanted to learn at least the basics forever, and I finally told myself, "enough with the 'tomorrow' talk." My mom used to train in Taekwondo back in the day. Maybe something like that? Will it be an issue being in my twenties instead of a student? Are there actually any good classes here in Savannah? I know there's a Krav Maga club nearby that runs Taekwondo sessions, but it seems geared toward kids rather than adults. Let me know what you think!

Alright, here’s the deal: I’m currently living and studying in Chicago, though I originally grew up in a smaller town back in the Midwest. Back home, I used to do some recreational kickboxing, but thanks to a knee injury and just being too busy, my passion for combat sports basically went into hibernation. Now that I'm settled in Chicago, that fighting spirit is coming back, and I'm itching to get back into kickboxing or maybe even try my hand at MMA. I’m living over in the Lincoln Park area, so I’m looking for some advice—can anyone recommend a few clubs that are relatively close by and actually have a solid reputation? Thanks in advance! 😁

Alright, look, I’ve never really been a "sports guy." Honestly, I’m pretty much the definition of uncoordinated—used to pull measly Cs in gym class and call it a day. But lately, I’ve been thinking about getting into martial arts. So, first off, since I’m basically an athlete in reverse and I’m already 19 and a half... am I too old? Is there even any point in starting now?

Second thing is, I have zero clue which discipline to pick. If anyone here could give me some pointers or advice, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks.

By the way, I'm living in New York City.

It’s never too late 😁

What gets you going?

Striking? Boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing
Grappling?
Rolling on the mats in a gi? BJJ
Leg locks in a gi? Judo
All of the above? MMA
Self-defense? Krav Maga

I thought I’d sign up for boxing over in Omega at the Quad.
Does anyone know if they’re actually taking new members right now? And what’s the deal with the training sessions—what are they actually like?

Thanks, I'll do some digging online first then decide. 🙂
So, I was checking out some local gym websites, and honestly, none of them really say how to sign up. Is there a specific enrollment period, or can I just show up whenever they have a class running?

Honestly, it really varies depending on the gym—every place does its own thing. Some places take people all year round, while others fill up right at the start of the season and you're stuck waiting for a spot later on. Just a heads-up, though—a packed class doesn't always mean it's the best club; there are plenty of other factors at play. Your best bet is probably just reaching out to the clubs you're interested in directly (maybe hit up a few if you're undecided!). You can often swing a trial class, and some spots even offer them for free—definitely worth checking. You should be able to find all their contact info online.
