Hey everyone, I could really use some collective wisdom here...
Does anyone happen to know if there’s any kind of martial arts training happening in the mornings anywhere in San Diego?
My current afternoon training schedule is pretty much set in stone, and I can't really budge it, so I’m desperately searching for an early morning option. Honestly, I've reached a point of such desperation that I'm not even being picky about the specific discipline; anything would work at this stage.

Or, failing all of that, does anyone know of a gym in the area that at least keeps a heavy bag on hand?

Hey there,

I’m looking into Muay Thai, MMA, or BJJ; I might pick one or a mix, though I have some experience with Muay Thai and BJJ already. These three gyms caught my eye:
American Combat Academy
New York Muay Thai
Black Dragon Academy

Does anyone have the scoop on membership rates or class schedules for these places? I’m just looking at recreational training, nothing too intense.
Thanks.

So, she’s thinking about starting boxing. But before diving in, she wants to know how it actually affects the female body. Will it thicken the waistline? How does muscle development work? And specifically, how effective is boxing at burning off extra weight?

Thanks.🙂

Where might an adult find opportunities to train traditional—meaning non-sport oriented—judo or ju-jitsu in the greater metropolitan area?

The provided link discusses the history and evolution of Muay Thai. It covers how the sport transitioned from ancient battlefield combat to a regulated global discipline. The article highlights its cultural roots and its development into the modern striking art practiced today.

Looking for a decent boxing gym in Chicago with reasonable rates for three sessions a week, ideally under $67 bucks. Honestly, it’s probably not even $100 much if you want actual quality coaching, but being a student, $67 that’s pretty much my hard limit before I start skipping meals 😁 to pay for it. There's a spot run by Subos that's dirt cheap, but the classes start at 9:30 PM, which is a bit too late for me.

Probably just in Sam Roberts' or Daniel Garcia's basement 😛

Why? If there are quality MMA training sessions available for $77, I am certain there are boxing clubs at a similar price point.

Can someone tell me if there's still a boxing setup over at the YMCA near the downtown area? I was wondering if they actually have the gear available when the training sessions are running.

Hey, I don't think they do group sessions, but you can pretty much just show up whenever...

Hi,
can I ask something?

I'm looking for a sport for my 6-year-old. I wanted to sign him up for judo, but the schedule at the local gym doesn't work for us. Now I'm looking at aikido, which I hadn't even considered before...
Do you recommend aikido for kids, and what age is best? My 4-year-old daughter might want to join too...

thanks 🙂

Hey

Does anyone know if there are any spots in the US where you can train Filipino martial arts using short sticks?
I’d really love to go check out a class; I think it looks incredibly cool...
Thanks!

Not sure what your actual goal is. If it’s just for fun, aikido is fine, but maybe wrestling would be a better pick for martial arts.

There are plenty of judo clubs around town, so it shouldn't be an issue if you don't mind driving an extra five minutes.
