My public gynecologist is an absolute disaster. It’s probably why I find myself arguing with my own conscience whenever I need an appointment. Honestly, I’d rather just take some money from my husband and see a private specialist who actually knows what she's doing. With this public doctor, I hadn't even gotten settled on the exam table before she confidently diagnosed me with some random inflammation, handed me a prescription, and told me to get out. Is that really how a doctor-patient relationship should work?
Not to mention, her physical exams are incredibly rough, almost like she's working on a car engine. Just awful. 😱

My gynecologist retired, so they transferred my records to the guy who usually covers his shifts. I showed up this Tuesday for a routine checkup; I’d been taking birth control and wanted to take a break, so I asked for a lab slip for some blood work. This guy looks at me and goes, "Why do you need a referral? Birth control doesn't actually change your body chemistry, for heaven's sake..." then he just handed me the slip anyway. 😕
Now I have to track down my primary care doctor just to get a simple order for a CBC.

So, you actually read this nightmare...

Honestly, I’d much rather pay $133 out of pocket for a full checkup (exam, Pap smear, and vaginal ultrasound) at a private clinic than deal with my regular OBGYN through insurance. I am just not about being butchered on that absolutely disgusting exam table.

Honestly, I’d love to drag him in front of a disciplinary board, then straight to court, and finally behind bars. I’d make sure he loses his work permit too, just so he can spend the rest of his life "contemplating" his own twisted morals and total lack of a conscience.🙂

By the way, a friend of mine actually traveled all the way to Italy just to have her kids. Get this—out of three children, only the first one ended up with jaundice, and that was the one born at a hospital right here in the States.
The Italians basically told her straight up that it’s just a result of filthy hospitals and zero decent standards back home, since seeing a newborn with jaundice over here is supposed to be a rare thing in the West.

I have no idea what kind of "rash" you’re referring to regarding your acquaintance's baby, but physiological diaper rash is actually quite common in newborns. It isn't necessarily a reflection of hygiene standards.

The doctors at the hospital told her the exact opposite during both births, though she had all three kids via C-section—so maybe that’s why.

I have given birth to three children in America, and not a single one of them ever developed jaundice.

Look, I had a C-section too, and my little one didn't end up getting jaundice at all. And honestly? Jaundice has absolutely zero to do with how clean the hospital is. Newborn jaundice happens simply because a baby's liver isn't quite mature enough yet to process all that bilirubin. It builds up, travels through the bloodstream, and ends up tinting their skin and the whites of their eyes a yellowish hue. It’s actually way more common and intense in preemies.
As for the maternity ward over at the local hospital—you know, that recovery unit for moms and babies right after a C-section—the hygiene standards are 👍

I don't have anything "beautiful" to say—honestly, there's nothing worse than being in that exam room. It's a revolting experience in every sense of the word... I avoid it at all costs, unless it's absolutely necessary. 😠

Listen to me... I've explained everything already... you don't need to go asking him a million different questions all the time... He isn't awkward... and he certainly isn't cold...

I wouldn't dream of seeing a female gynecologist; I just wouldn't feel comfortable doing that...🙂))

An exam including ultrasound and a Pap smear is 450 (or maybe 400?) bucks.

$133. Seriously though, she’s a fantastic doctor. That matters a ton, especially if it's your first time ever going in.

I’m honestly so lucky to have my aunt as my doctor. Not only is she an incredible physician, but she actually has a heart—which, let’s be real, is a rare find in medicine these days.

You can talk to her about just about anything. She’s always looking out for me, making sure I get all the right tests done—she usually suggests them before I even think to ask.

I don't bother with private practices. There aren't really many "private" doctors around here—well, unless you count her little setup. She works at the local women's health clinic for about four hours a day, and the rest of her time is spent in the OR; she’s easily one of the top surgeons in town.

But the best part? She still takes patients covered by standard state insurance.

I’m living in Sweden right now, and basically every gynecologist here is "private," though the government still subsidizes the care, so you just end up paying a small co-pay.

And what about the names of the doctors? Like, "Oh, this lady is wonderful because she does this, but that guy is absolutely terrible because he does that..."🙂
