To anyone else from the Philly area who’s still sticking around... you've gotta check out Dr. Stanić. I mean, he’s a guy, but honestly, he’s just so incredibly polite and goes above and beyond to walk you through everything. He actually answers every single question you throw at him; the man is just genuinely approachable. After bouncing around between several different female gynecologists, I ended up seeing my first male doctor in this field—someone I wasn't even sure I wanted to see, to be honest—and he totally blew me away. I mean, damn, he sees this stuff every single day, it’s really nothing to get worked up about, right? I can't help but wonder what it's like for their female patients, though... surely he gets a little bored of looking at vaginas all day.

Roger Foster3 said:It seems he treated her more like an animal than a person—honestly, one would have thought he’d studied veterinary medicine instead. Did I hit the mark there?😍

It is truly striking how much more humanity veterinarians often show their patients; perhaps it is precisely those so-called "humans" who could use a little bit of that veterinary compassion....😁

I have to side with Ronald Hernandez15 on this one...
Unfortunately, around here, most OB-GYNs are perfectly fine as long as everything is running smoothly—meaning they’ll give you the thumbs up while you're healthy and
everything seems normal during those routine checkups.
The truth is, you don't really find out if you've got a decent doctor until something actually goes wrong.

Ugh, but I seriously have to jump in here because this whole idea that vets are somehow more caring or "human" toward animals than MDs are toward people is just... wow...
Honestly, I’ve never heard anything more ridiculous. From what I can tell, I’ve dealt with doctors being cold and totally negligent way more often than any patient would ever deal with their vet...

(just responding to Ronald Hernandez15's point here, not Roger Foster3's take)

Alright, look—I have a dog, and I truly didn’t mean to insult veterinarians—who, frankly, do an incredible job and pour so much heart into their work—but I drew that parallel because my doctor made me feel like nothing more than a piece of livestock. So, yeah... let's just not turn this into a massive debate, okay?

Does anyone know a good private gynecologist or a solid OB-GYN clinic around the downtown area—maybe near the Capitol, the Museum District, or over by Midtown? Looking for recommendations! Thanks!

Is he in private practice or part of a hospital group? If he's private, what's the damage for an exam—like, what does that cover exactly? And how old is he?

Oh, come on—don't use that word! It’s way too crude!

To be fair, I actually went to see the specialist and that Natasja woman—she seemed totally fine to me. She asks all these incredibly granular questions, sends things off for extra testing, and honestly, she was always available via phone whenever I needed her. Not that I had massive issues to begin with, thank God.

But those nurses? Absolute idiots. They either act like we're best friends or they try to lecture me on every little detail of my therapy—it’s exhausting. So, usually, I just switch to this ice-cold tone and demand to speak to the doctor (the nurse definitely rolls her eyes and tells the doctor I'm being difficult, but I really don't care) and then I get her immediately—or, at worst, I’ve got her on the line within ten minutes.

That Natasja lady is actually quite decent. Now I'm just completely thrown off by all this...

Wait, what were you guys saying about that lady over at the clinic on Main Street? Is she actually as good as everyone says?

If you're hanging around the Upper West Side area, there's Nemetova Medical Clinic right up there... honestly such a fantastic spot! I'd definitely suggest checking out Dr. Dubret👍

Ronald Hernandez15 said:I’d love to say I was wrong—honestly, Dr. Maja G. over at the Harni Clinic, who I raved about before, is actually wonderful if you're perfectly healthy and just need a quick annual checkup. But, if things get even slightly complicated or you're genuinely worried about your life being on the line? Run the other way. My urine test showed some serious issues that my regular GP simply can't wrap her head around.

Today's news:
The District Attorney has filed charges against three doctors from the medical center on Petrova Street—Mihajl Strelec, Albert Despot, and Vladimir Janđel—along with Dr. Maja Gudelj from the private Harni Clinic, regarding the death of a newborn from the N. family back in May 2005. The physicians are facing felony charges for crimes against public health. To recap, the mother, A.F.N., wasn't warned about the complications by Dr. Gudelj, who also failed to alert the rest of the medical team...

I was reading through the news this morning and honestly, I’m shivering just thinking about it! If I had to pick one doctor out of the million gynecologists practicing across America, I’d choose her in a heartbeat. 😠 😠 😠 aghhhhh

Is Nataša Šemnički familiar to anyone who used to work at Sun Medical? She’s incredibly slow. Truly, exceptionally slow. She will answer every single question you have—perhaps even too many questions! Personally, she left a decent impression on me because her patience while explaining things is wonderful. However, the sheer pace was maddening. She is quite literally the gold standard for slowness. I honestly thought my time might run out before she finished speaking.

Perhaps it is actually a benefit that she moved on from Sun Medical (whether by choice or otherwise), because they treat their doctors like they're on an assembly line. The better physicians tend to leave because they refuse to endure that environment; they realize that twenty minutes for a patient simply isn't enough time... which is absolutely the truth!

Question: Every single Pap smear result comes back indicating inflammation, yet my gynecologist keeps insisting everything is perfectly fine.

Shouldn't she at least suggest treating it with some ointments, suppositories, or something similar?
Or is there some unspoken rule that if you don't have cancer, you simply don't have any problems at all?

Or is the unspoken rule just that if it isn't cancer, you don't actually have a problem?

That basically means it’s nothing serious. I always have some minor inflammation or whatever, and my doctor tells me everything is fine too. Sometimes she gives me a prescription for suppositories, sometimes she doesn't. Just be happy; apparently, you're fine.
My doctor told me ages ago that once a year, just for prevention, I can take the initiative and use a round of Geonistin suppositories. It helps clear out those little inflammations.

Shouldn't the term "at least" be applied to treating this with topical ointments, vaginal creams, or something along those lines?
Is there some unwritten social contract suggesting that if you aren't facing a cancer diagnosis, you don't actually have any real problems to deal with?

It’s not as if she’s the only specialist in the entire country, is it? If you aren't satisfied with her approach, you really ought to seek out someone else—ideally someone who comes highly recommended by a trusted source rather than just picking a name out of a hat.

crtica said:She isn't the only doctor out there, right? Try seeing someone else, preferably someone recommended by a friend.

I personally went to one top-tier specialist, and now I'm heading to another who is just as excellent. Both of them looked at me when I had a minor inflammation and told me it was nothing. Besides, just because you have a sore throat doesn't mean you always need antibiotics. It all depends on what's actually causing it, doesn't it?

True enough, but if you're dealing with constant sore throats after a while, eventually you end up having your tonsils removed, don't you?

I mean, look, I realize it isn't an emergency, but if these infections keep popping up year after year, shouldn't something actually be done? Or at least, shouldn't someone explain to the patient that it’s nothing to worry about, rather than just ignoring it as if everything is perfectly fine?

I am honestly so embarrassed to even bring this up, but I really need some help from you guys. I’m 26, and I have never actually been to a gynecologist before. I don't know how to get past this massive wave of shame. I realize they see stuff like this every single day, but I’m genuinely desperate. I have no idea which doctor to trust or where to go—all I know is that I am definitely not going to Dr. Harney, and I’m terrified of being judged or scolded for waiting this long. Please, help me out.
