So, I’m currently hunting for a new OB-GYN in the downtown area. I took your recommendations for Gynoderma very seriously. I decided to check their website to see if they had one, and when I finally opened it, I was hit with this massive headline:

Gynecology Clinic for obstetrics dermatology and venereology

And it’s listed exactly the same way in the contact section.

It felt incredibly strange to me. It looks like someone built the site and didn't bother to check the spelling, or perhaps the staff themselves didn't even notice such a blatant error.

How much do you all rely on websites? Does stuff like this throw you off?

Of course, I’ll still go there because I trust the word-of-mouth reviews I've read, but I just had to ask.

And how do you actually spell it? Obstetrics? Honestly, I couldn't tell from looking at their site.😁

I was actually at his office yesterday evening. I was so nervous that I started rambling absolute nonsense right in front of him. Once I walked out, I wanted to just cut my tongue out. Every time I think about it, I remember how he just stared at me like we were out in a field herding sheep together. My sentences were just that ridiculous.😵

And I really want to say thanks to all the ladies who replied to my question. I haven't had a chance to get back to you all until now... I was wondering if anyone could recommend a solid gynecologist who specializes in HPV and CIN issues? Unfortunately, Dr. Magdić is retiring soon, so I'm feeling a bit lost on where to turn next. I'm thinking about seeing Dr. Grujić, but I'm not sure if she takes referrals from primary care or if she actually focuses on this specific area. Anyway, thanks again for the help!

You can get an HPV test done at Virogen, which is right near the Quad. It’ll run you anywhere from $350 up to $167, depending on if they take the sample there or if you just bring in one from your own OB-GYN. You should have the results in about 10 to 15 days. Their number is 01 2319595... good luck!

Well, yeah, she’s definitely that type—polite and sweet... but if you actually have a real issue, she won't even recognize what's wrong with you. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone, honestly. Because of her, I've been stuck in bed for a month and a half now...

You go in for an exam, and instead of that rushed, clinical interrogation, you actually get to sit down and have a conversation... It’s one of those rare instances where you can ask absolutely anything, and she’ll break it down for you in plain, down-to-earth American English—the kind of straight talk that actually makes sense. She maintains a perfectly professional demeanor, which is standard for someone with her reputation among the local OBGYNs—though, truth be told, everyone seems to rave about her—but because of that, the waiting room is always packed. If you decide to book an appointment with her, just a heads-up: prepare to be running at least thirty minutes behind schedule... and once you’re actually in the room with her, expect to spend another half hour catching up. Anyway... 👍

...I agree... absolutely spot on... she is brilliant, truly patient—it’s a rare combination... if I ever find myself becoming a mother, I can only hope to channel even a fraction of that strength... 😁 I’m only reaching out to her... and honestly, she's worth every single cent and every wasted minute... 🙏

So, I just found out I tested positive for HPV 16, and honestly, I’ve been spiraling ever since. I went to see Dr. Sherman over at St. Jude's, and he did a colposcopy and ran another Pap test, then basically told me to come back in two weeks for a biopsy. I am beyond anxious—like, actually shaking—because I have zero clue what he saw during that colposcopy or why on earth he's sending me in for a biopsy if we're already waiting on new Pap results, right?
Girls, please, if any of you have been through this, can you tell me how long a biopsy actually takes, how much it hurts, and what the recovery is like?

Dr. Joško Zekan is basically the go-to expert on HPV among Americans.
He works alongside Dr. Ivan Fistonić at:

Fistonić Medical Clinic
10 Preradović Ave, Los Angeles
Tel. 4855-041

Ribitza, you’re better off giving Dr. Dorić over at Virogen a call at 2319-595 or 2319-596. You honestly won't believe it, but she actually picks up the phone and answers questions exactly like this one. Plus, her website has a ton of great info on it www.virogena.com

I actually had a colposcopy done just last week. From what I understand about how gynecologists work, they use the colposcopy to check if they can spot any actual changes on the cervical tissue... if they see something, they send you for a biopsy. If they don't, they might just give you some treatment for the HPV. I actually spoke with Dr. Gudelj over the phone, and she mentioned that a colposcopy doesn't always catch certain specific changes, which is exactly why they do the biopsy. My doctor says one thing... Dr. Gudelj says another... so even I'm feeling a bit lost! But honestly, it's probably better to get the biopsy done so you have a clear answer rather than just sitting there wondering if things are getting worse. Good luck.

So, what’s the verdict on Jasenka Grujić over at Gupčeva Zvijezda? I’m thinking about heading her way... is she actually any good?

So, am I correct in thinking that the nurse at the Student Health Center is actually Dr. Greg's sister?

Since this is my first time booking an appointment there, I am genuinely curious... how is the hygiene, and what is the doctor like? I suppose I could endure a foolish nurse if the doctor is competent. Does she actually understand PCOS? And does she tend to be stingy with referrals—I really need a full hormonal panel—or is she perfectly reasonable?

Dr. Miller is quite arrogant and can be incredibly abrasive at times (probably just her temperament). She’s also rather expensive. She and her sister seem to be locked in a perpetual "cold war," too. That said, she is fundamentally a competent specialist, I suppose. Personally, I’ve stopped seeing her because her attitude gets under my skin. However, she managed to slap two diagnoses on me "out of thin air," whereas others don't find it quite that easy...

A lot of women call Dr. Grujicka arrogant or whatever, but I actually have a pretty good opinion of her—she’s pricey and definitely serious, but she had this way of calming me down during my last visit... which helps, since I've been dealing with weight and hormone issues while trying to conceive. She seems like a real expert, and besides, my friend recommended her after she basically saved her pregnancy.
I really need to get myself on the schedule for some checkups and tests.
I've heard nothing but good things about Dr. Latin too, though the wait times there seem a bit much.

hmm, how expensive are we talking (roughly)?
Is this specialist more for prenatal care or specifically for (in)fertility?
If you happen to know, what's the lead time for an appointment? Like, a month out from the call or sooner?
thanks

Frank, you’re better off just calling Dr. Dorić over at Virogen at 2319-595 or 2319-596 because—get this—she actually picks up the phone and answers these kinds of questions! Plus, her website www.virogena.com is packed with great info.

Dr. Dorić was actually the one who diagnosed me with HPV; I’ve already been to see her. Honestly, if you think Zekan is some kind of guru, you probably just heard that from her. 😎 She sends her patients straight to him at the Fistonić clinic where he runs his private practice. You know why? For the money. When he’s at the public hospital, he does it for free. 🙂

And yeah, I know she answers the phone and talks to people—she might even call you in for testing—but those tests for aerobes, anaerobes, and HPV cost way more than $333. Maybe that’s why she seems so "approachable," right? Look, she’s a pro and she gets the job done, so credit where it's due. 🙂 But all those tests usually cost $3.25 more than what a standard referral covers.

But let’s be real, she isn’t a gynecologist; she’s a transfusion specialist focused on diagnostics. So, maybe she’s not really the person you want to call when it comes to actual treatment. Don't get me wrong, I love her—I’ve honestly never had a doctor treat me as well as she has. She’s pleasant, gentle, and always ready to answer every single question. And you get your results in just a few days. But once the diagnosis is done, you have to go somewhere else anyway. Whether Zekan is a guru or not, I highly doubt his "guru status" comes from being friends with her. Did she tell you that herself, or was it a bunch of his "successfully cured" patients?

Did she mention that when you call his cell and tell him she sent you? Because that’s exactly what happened to me. See, I’m starting to think their whole business model boils down to this:
- Patient X goes to him, he does a Pap smear, finds something bad, and sends them to Virogen to confirm the HPV type. Dr. Dorić collects her fee, and she stays grateful to Dr. Zekan...
- Then Patient Y goes to Dr. Dorić at Virogen, she does the DNA testing to get the facts, and then sends the patient to Dr. Zekan, who charges his fee and, out of gratitude, sends a new patient back to Dr. Dorić the very same day.
- And they just keep this loop going forever.

Maybe Zekan is actually good, but we shouldn't just swallow every bit of praise we hear. Doctors recommend each other, they do favors for one another, and you seriously need to watch out. This Dorić-Zekan combo is way more expensive than just finding a regular gynecologist or going to a hospital. And guess what? Zekan works at the hospital too. For free.

I know I’m straying a little bit from the main topic here, but I really need some quick input... so...
....Hey ladies and gentlemen—assuming there are actually some guys hanging out in here too?
I have a question, and if you could answer based on your own experiences or maybe offer some professional insight... Here’s the deal: Is it actually normal or common for a woman in her 30s to still be dealing with irregular periods? Full disclosure: I’m talking about myself here. ;-(
I saw my OB-GYN last year, and she told me my ovaries are perfectly clear—just those functional cysts that pop up during PMS and disappear once my period starts, which isn't a huge deal. But basically, my cycle is always late... honestly, for as long as I can remember, I don't think I've had an on-time period more than ten times in my life. To make matters worse, my PMS symptoms seem to be getting more intense as I get older. It lasts forever—sometimes two full weeks—and by the end of it, I feel like I'm losing my mind. I find myself praying to the heavens just to get my period started because I’m genuinely worried I might accidentally snap at everyone around me! :-) hehe! Once the bleeding actually starts, I feel totally back to normal by the second day... but the lead-up is absolute chaos. Right now, I’m in the middle of that "waiting game" after two weeks of PMS, and it’s being super indecisive. It’s like a tiny bit of spotting, then nothing, then a tiny bit again—I could probably get away with just using a liner for two days since it's so light. I was wondering if any of you deal with something similar, and whether this is something I should be seriously worried about? My friends (and my doctor, too) have suggested starting hormonal birth control to regulate everything, but I’m really not thrilled about the idea of taking hormones every single day. Is there any other way to handle this???
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Well, they’re a top-tier specialist—supposedly amazing for prenatal care. I’m not entirely sure about the infertility aspect, though she did tell me not to worry and that we’d get it sorted... plus, she has connections over at Mayo Clinic and places like that. As for prices, they’re a bit higher than most clinics, but nothing crazy.
The ultrasound was $183 (last year). Personally, I usually book my appointments about 7 days ahead of time...

Frank Campbell2 said:Maybe Zekan is actually good, but we shouldn't just swallow every compliment; doctors tend to look out for one another and do favors, so one ought to be cautious. This partnership between Dorić and Zekan ends up being much more expensive than simply seeing a private gynecologist and then going to the hospital. Besides, Zekan works at the hospital too. It's essentially free there.

*** Please forgive the length of this post... ***

I initially saw Dr. Tadić. She is wonderful, truly, but if everything seems fine or if you are just managing a standard pregnancy, I fear she might lack the time—or perhaps even the specific expertise—for more complicated cases (if I am mistaken, please excuse me)...
Anyway, my Pap smear showed CIN III, followed by CIS a month later, which sent Dr. Tadić into a panic, rushing me toward a colposcopy and biopsy. I sought out a private specialist to handle it, thinking that if I paid a premium, I would receive proper care 😵. The biopsy confirmed CIN III, and just a month after that, I was called back for another Pap; the doctor told me if the results showed anything above CIN I, I would need a conization immediately. Once the results came in, I called him to discuss them, and he told me it was CIN II, then placed me on hold to transfer me to his nurse so she could urgently schedule the surgery. When I asked how much it would cost... $667 he said $2,500. I was absolutely floored. In the meantime, I spent hours searching the internet for answers and eventually stumbled upon Dr. Dorić. I called her to request a consultation. She sat me down, reviewed all my records, and calmly told me there was no need to rush. This whole ordeal began in December, and I didn't see Dr. Dorić until June. For those keeping track, that was three Pap smears and a biopsy in less than six months... whereas standard medical recommendations suggest waiting at least 6 to 8 months between tests
. Dr. Dorić referred me to Zekan; he examined me and gave me an image of my cervix to take home (though I wonder if I should have mentioned how it looked after everything I had been through). He scheduled me for another Pap in two months, noting it would be reckless to do it any sooner, though he personally would have waited longer—given my previous results, however, a slightly earlier check was safer. By late August, the results were perfectly clear. Nothing. Zero. No concerns at all. When I called him, he suggested that if I wanted, I could undergo HPV genotyping, mostly just for my own peace of mind. I went back to Dr. Dorić, and the test was negative for HPV. After receiving the news, I called him again, and he told me to return for a routine check-up in 8 to 10 months and to live my life peacefully. That amount of time has passed, and it is already time to schedule something... And yes, you understood correctly—I won't be returning to him. Why? Because he is a specialist in a specific niche: viral infections. I no longer have those issues (perhaps I never did), and now I require a competent "general" gynecologist
.
My dear friends, from all of this, the most important takeaway is this:
Always seek a second opinion if you aren't satisfied with the first. Take care of yourselves. There are many ways to support your own health—strengthening your immunity, maintaining a positive mindset, and nurturing your relationships. (And, of course, practicing protection when necessary)...
Even through your insurance, you have the right to a free second opinion. Simply ask your primary physician for a referral
.
So, there it is. Zekan and Dorić work together at the same clinic—that is a fact—but it is a good thing. She knows her field, and he knows his when it comes to HPV and other infections. Is Zekan a good OB/GYN for childbirth? I don't know; he likely isn't, as that isn't his primary focus. However, my impression is that he would recommend a skilled obstetrician or another specialist himself. That is the hallmark of a truly good doctor. If they don't know the answer, they will send you to someone who does. Ultimately, the most vital thing is whether you trust them as a person. I trusted Dr. Dorić... and I have never regretted it 👍 🎉 🙂
