I mean, it really depends on who we're talking about. Generally speaking, oral contraceptives are a solid option—the hormone doses these days are actually pretty tiny compared to what they used to be—but still, there’s definitely a significant number of women out there for whom they just aren't an option.
On the flip side, painkillers like Voltaren—you know, those NSAIDs—work wonders in most cases, and they aren't inherently "bad" unless you've got a super sensitive stomach lining. If that's the case, I guess the fix is switching to shots or suppositories instead.
I used to deal with these brutal periods... nothing that ever landed me in the ER at the hospital, but honestly, I was basically a zombie for a day or two without meds. For me, the sweet spot was taking Voltaren Rapid about half a day before the bleeding even started. Then, I had this pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage at 11 weeks, and they had to do a D&C.
