jadeowl2 said:Same here, honestly. By 18, I had already seen and done it all 🤣.

Look, everyone misses out on something in life. It's just how it works.

And I gotta say, I don't see these 40-year-olds struggling to find people to hang out with.😳.

I’d also add that having a kid at 20 vs. 40 is a totally different ballgame, mostly because a 20-year-old isn't nearly as intense or dramatic about everything. Like one of my girlfriends put it: "I wasn't my mom's entire universe; I was just there by her side." And honestly, that’s usually better for the kid too—at least from what I see happening around me, though I haven't exactly gone down a rabbit hole studying this stuff.

Whatever, nobody could have forced me to have a baby back then. I just think the way people try to make it look like some huge tragedy isn't actually that bad.

😂
I wouldn't do it myself, but feel free to go ahead—it’s really not that big of a deal 😁

You didn't exactly convince me. 😛

People who have kids aren't exactly under house arrest for eighteen years straight, and besides, what's the difference between doing things at 25 versus 40? While I guess there's definitely a difference in reverse—adventures in your 40s will surely be better than they could have been at 25. Sure, I might have been in better shape back then, but intelligence, maturity, wit, money, sex... everything else just keeps getting better as the years go by.😁

For me, the responsibility factor is huge. I just never had any interest in being responsible and dealing with kids.

Walter Davis said:I know plenty of folks who became parents in their late 30s or even early 40s, and honestly, I don't see them struggling or regretting not jumping in sooner. I mean, it’s mostly people who don't exactly view hitting 40 as being ancient.

Nobody really thinks those years mark the start of old age, but man... that twenty-year gap hits different... 😁 Not really the same thing... then again, grandparents usually jump right in to help out, but you've got cases where there's like a ten-year gap between them having kids and finally getting grandkids... or even more...

😁

On the other hand... I think people will just go wild and "live it up" during their twenties before they settle down into the corporate grind. Whether they head straight into the workforce or stick with school...

There’s really no such thing as the "perfect moment" to start something. You just have to learn as you go 😉

I think you totally misread me. I'm not out here trying to push anyone into anything, and honestly, that kind of stuff doesn't even cross my mind. People make their own calls, whatever they feel like... I don't care. I'm just pointing out what I see happening right in front of me.

Fair enough, I get it 🙂 it just sounded a bit contradictory to me—starting the sentence by saying you'd never do it, only to end by suggesting it isn't actually that big of a deal. 😁

The ideal window for having children seems to peak before you hit your mid-thirties, whereas the most opportune time to settle into marriage is arguably during your forties.
The real dilemma, I suppose, is how one manages to align those two timelines.

Just get divorced and do it all over again.
😁

Honestly, my life is so good right now, I can't even imagine being in a relationship... let alone marriage, because why bother...😁

If you ask me, the sweet spot is somewhere between ages 26 and 30—right when people have finally wrapped up their education and actually feel ready to share a life with someone else. By then, they’ve had enough time to live a little and figure themselves out.

You really ought to bring something along as a gift; you can't just show up empty-handed like that. 😁

Honestly, looking back at what I just wrote, it reads more like a tiny little advertisement than anything else. 😁

As for me, life feels incredibly peaceful right now. I honestly can’t see myself ever getting into a relationship... and let's not even get started on marriage, because that is simply not on my radar anymore.😁
It’s merely a placeholder until the right man comes along. 🙂

I honestly don't get people who act like you're missing out by not starting a family early. If having kids was my top priority, I definitely would've had them by now at 33.

Does anyone actually feel the need to be out partying every single weekend?!
Look, I get it. When you're in high school, everything feels wild and new. In your early twenties, you finally break free from your parents, you're in college, you've got your first paycheck from Starbucks or something, and you just want to live it up. But personally? I was already over that whole scene by my early twenties. Especially living in a place like Chicago—the nightlife can get pretty repetitive—so if I were going out now, I wouldn't even know who to go with or where to go. Honestly, I wouldn't even want to. I'd much rather spend my weekend actually getting stuff done.

Is there actually an ideal age, or is it entirely up to the individual?
Does marriage even matter to you, or do you see it as just a formality?

What is your motivation for wanting to get married?

I don't think there’s really a "right" age to get married, because isn't life just unpredictable like that? Someone might find their perfect match in their twenties, thirties, or even their sixties; everyone follows their own unique path, and some people just happen to find their soulmate earlier than others.
That said, I have so much respect for those who marry young, maybe even before they hit twenty. But then again, I also know people who married when they were barely adults and are still going strong together today.
Marriage can be such a beautiful thing if you're with someone you truly love and if you're constantly on the same page, wouldn't you agree? There really isn't anything more wonderful than that. It feels like society respects you more when you've built that kind of foundation, which feels like such a natural progression. Isn't it just lovely to enter into a union with the person you love and build a family together? There's something so heartwarming about seeing a couple walking through a park in Chicago or grabbing popcorn at a movie theater with their little one. Having a partner by your side to live for, alongside your children, is probably the greatest treasure on this planet. My own marriage ended after twelve years, and while the breakup was a massive shock, those first few years were truly wonderful because I lived my life for my wife and my son. Life moves on, though, doesn't it? Would I ever marry again? Honestly, I would, and I'd even love to have more children, provided I could be certain—though we can never be one hundred percent sure—that they are the person I want to spend the rest of my days with. My grandparents were married for sixty-two years, and they cherished and respected one another until their very last breath.

I like to tell myself that life is basically just one giant playground where you get to decide when to step up and what kind of game you actually want to play. Sure, look—biology and certain unavoidable circumstances set some boundaries, I get it. But there’s still plenty of room to design your own fun. Because of that, "the right time" starts looking pretty subjective. It all depends on the player. For some, it's right now; for others, it's later; and for some people, it never happens at all.
