Anthony Jackson2 said:Since we’re throwing numbers around—if I recall correctly, we lost about 760 people to the flu last season—it stands to reason our COVID stats should look significantly milder than what they saw in Italy.

Look, I'm not trying to be difficult here. But I have literally sat there and watched a "simple" little "naive" cold virus—they wouldn't even tell me which specific "cold" it was—tear through an elderly care home like the plague. Twice. And I know more people who went down because of it indirectly.

We're talking about people in their twilight years, most with underlying issues, some already at the end of the line. From what I could see, that’s just a regular Tuesday in nursing homes...

But how is a death actually recorded? A cold? The flu? Lung cancer? Kidney failure? Sepsis? Heart failure?

You gotta realize that the official cause of death is just that—official. A basic cold (like a rhinovirus, for example) can be the thing that pushes someone right over the edge. So, what's the actual cause then? Did they die because of a draft in the room since I opened a window to get some air in?

Pinpointing the exact cause of death isn't always as straightforward as it looks.

Right, because this post is clearly just bursting with logical arguments...🤣

Unlike that first one you pointed out—which actually showed some real capacity and was nothing more than a blatant slander...😉

There aren't any "opinions" here; much like your example, it's just a pile of baseless claims and smears—that's the intellectual level we're dealing with...

The kind of person who apparently struggles to grasp that when we talk about "6 days," we're referring to the window between the travel ban being declared and the moment someone decided to try and break through the blockade...

... uh... the Internet is a nasty thing... it remembers everything... and you can find just about anything on there if you look hard enough...
It’s just a shame that these older folks—who were likely the ones polled in that Ipsos survey, I still can't get over that one🤣—don't quite know their way around it yet...

I spent part of my day trying to teach my mother how to use a mouse... and how to scroll through a page... just so I could broaden her horizons beyond the usual "but they said it on TV" mentality...

But it's a struggle... a real struggle... 🤦
(I mean—both of them... the scrolling and the broadening of horizons...😁)

HERE'S THE PROBLEM!!!

Dozens of Americans are being flown back home from all those COVID hotspots, thanks to help from our Department of State, according to a statement they dropped on Monday.

We've got 11 people coming back from Los Angeles, 29 from Washington, D.C., and 13 were sent back Sunday from Colorado.

On Sunday, 20 Americans also made it back via New York City after flying out of New Delhi, plus seven people came home from Cuba, 16 from Peru, and one from Bolivia.

They’ve also been coordinating travel for Americans moving back and forth to the Czech Republic for medical treatment.

The memo points out that since we're currently holding the presidency of the European Council, our embassies outside the EU are basically acting as coordinators. For example, the U.S. Consulate in Dubai even managed to get a flight out for EU citizens who were stuck in transit on a plane arriving from Dubai to Washington, D.C.

There were 32 Americans on that specific flight.

- They mentioned they know a lot of seasonal workers are stuck in a bad spot right now, and the consulates are trying to figure out the best way to get them home.

And they're coming straight from the middle of the outbreak too. 🤦 🤦 🤦

Hasn't everyone been comparing him to Grip since the very beginning, both here in the States and abroad?🤔

Didn't Rudan basically admit he regrets comparing the virus to the flu? I guess it's because none of us ever take the flu that seriously anyway.🤔

mellowotter36 said:What did we establish? I don't even remember posting here in the first place.

Over the last month, from the coronavirus in the Chicago area, 1,617 people have passed away. Between 2012 and 2019, the total number of deaths in March looks like this: 879, 768, 811, 956, 914, 887, 890, 886. Even if you count every single natural death as a COVID death, your theory still doesn't explain this massive anomaly.

That’s just not how statistics work.
Estimates for how many people actually catch the flu are always just educated guesses. With COVID, those projections are easily ten times higher than the official confirmed case counts. Because of that gap, we probably won't have any real, accurate data on this until the whole epidemic has finally run its course.

We also have to take into account that Italy was absolutely hammered because they lost control of their quarantine measures and allowed the virus to spread among those with chronic conditions. On top of that, they were trying to admit every single COVID patient into hospitals. That’s why you ended up with situations where morgues were overflowing in certain areas. It basically turned hospitals into infection hubs for the most vulnerable people.🤔

We won't truly know the full scale of the damage until the end of the year. It'll be interesting to see how many lives were actually lost versus how many people simply had their lifespans cut short by a few months. It’s pretty obvious we're going to see a massive drop in mortality rates from the flu and other typical illnesses once this epidemic finally settles down.

Once you see how long this decline is actually going to last, you might want to start making those calls. It’s pretty sobering to realize just how much COVID has cut short life expectancy over in Italy.

Just a side note here—I really hope they don't start playing those statistical games where they try to double-dip on the numbers. It would be a joke if someone dies from COVID but gets logged under a different disease category just because they argued that lowering cancer stats would mess with the public perception of risk (which we all know is just code for protecting funding). Plus, let's be real: it’s just not logical to claim someone in stage three lung cancer died of COVID when they were already battling both. You can't just pad two different lists with the same person.

velvetstag5 said:Show me where you read that.

In America (with a population of about 330 million), we see around a hundred cases during bad seasons.

If you multiply that by 15, then Italy should be looking at 1,500,

not 15,000.

Something definitely doesn't add up here...

If you look at their agency statistics, things were actually even worse a few years back, climbing toward 25k.🤔 These are official figures being released while the population is busy getting vaccinated.

Adam Collins4 said:By that logic, it's the same story in other countries too, since everyone's healthcare system is under massive strain for those exact same reasons...

Well, obviously...

The pharma industry uses the exact same playbook everywhere on the planet. The only difference here in the States is they can offload stuff on us that nobody else would touch. Honestly, they don't even have to try half the time because people around here are just waiting for any excuse to score a kickback...
Sure, it happens abroad too, just on a smaller scale compared to what their budgets can actually stomach...

Plus, look at the absolute panic in Italy compared to how chill things are in Germany...
Just imagine the meltdown we'd have if we had 63,000 cases like the Germans do. It wouldn't just be chaos; mortality rates would probably hit 50%... meanwhile, companies over there are still running business as usual, even in the hardest-hit regions...

And get this—the Germans have 63,000 cases and only 560 deaths, yet no panic.
On the flip side, the Italians have 97,000 cases and 10,700 deaths, and it's total mayhem.

Who do you think we act more like? The Germans or the Italians?

So, who exactly is running the numbers over here?
Something is seriously off with this math...

According to this official site, there are only 5 cases in the surrounding County:

But then you look at the breakdown by County:

And suddenly, that same County has 63 cases. It was 62 yesterday, and before that, it was just 5 back on Saturday...
Honestly, I have zero clue where this discrepancy is coming from. 🤷

Is someone trying to hide what's actually happening in the County, or are they just counting everyone from the metro area under the big city because that's where their residency is listed? 🤔

Either way, I don't get how the numbers can be this different. 🤔

First off, they have to let people come home. You can't just deny a citizen entry into their own country.🤔

This is exactly what I’ve been warning about since this thread started, even before Beros mentioned we wouldn't be closing borders with Italy. We shut down Washington, D.C. to stop local transmission, yet folks are flying in from Australia and Germany without being tested, heading straight back to homes where their parents live. They claim they're self-isolating, but they're living with people who are out there working in grocery stores and factories every day.🤔 🤦

That’s the whole point of "mass" testing. Just test everyone coming in..

On top of that, we've seen positive cases being sent home to live with essential workers. It feels like nobody is looking out for those families—whether they'll have enough food, enough money, or if anyone can even trust them to actually follow the rules.🤦
So instead of actual quarantine facilities (which, by the way, is what I'm being accused of wanting), we’re doing this "home quarantine" thing without any testing at all—unlike the serious countries in Asia. Then, we turn around and blame the public for spreading the virus when the government hasn't done anything to actually isolate the sick.
👍 😵

Our leadership, both in the administration and the opposition, seems completely caught off guard by this crisis. It feels like the state has zero material or financial reserves set aside for natural disasters, so like everything else, they're trying to weather the storm using the savings of its citizens.🙏

Do I just need to write a quick note if I'm moving to a different city, or is there an actual official form I gotta find somewhere?

That government website is a total mess—honestly, navigating it is like trying to find your way through a corn maze in the dark.

That depends entirely on who you're asking.
If you're looking for guidance from the CZ Headquarters—your best bet is to contact your local municipality or city hall. Give them a call or send an email; they surely have the info buried somewhere on their sites. Some places have uploaded a specific form, while others haven't... there isn't really one standardized way to request a travel permit.

Thanks. I see some people actually have them.
I'm trying to get word from FEMA.

God, I hope I can pull this off. I'm just praying they let me swing by my place in Washington, D.C., to grab some work stuff and all the paperwork I need for something...

Look, it’s not an issue that we’re bringing our people home so they don't end up stranded in some foreign country indefinitely. The headache starts when they actually land—that's when the government just washes its hands of them and dumps everything on the taxpayers. Sure, most folks will follow the rules, but there’s always that minority that won't, and that’s where the chaos begins. Instead of providing support during their quarantine, they just leave them hanging. I'll even go so far as to be cynical and say they're doing this on purpose just to rake in more fines, because after this, every single cent is going to count.

Kelandar said:

If you're forcing people into quarantine, you better be prepared to pay them for it.

That’s exactly why they’re dodging the word "quarantine" altogether, scrambling to find any other fancy label just to avoid the responsibility. 😛

Good luck with that.
Two different local emergency offices told me "only childcare or elderly care counts as a valid reason." I pretty much tore one of them a new one.

Please let me know if you pull it off; I'm genuinely curious.

If I recall correctly, even Berosh mentioned that a standard flu would be way more lethal if we didn't have any existing immunity.

But keep talking—it doesn't matter that you don't have a clue what you're saying. Not that anyone expected anything better from you.

Nope, not even close. It’s not even from the same virus family.

Anthony Jackson2 said:Since we’re throwing numbers around—if I recall correctly, we lost about 760 people to the flu last season—it stands to reason our COVID stats should look significantly milder than what they saw in Italy.

Sorry, but that is nowhere near accurate. You've totally inflated those numbers.
According to the CDC website for the 2018/2019 season: "This season is seeing a higher number of reported deaths due to influenza and its complications compared to previous seasons, with 117 deaths reported so far, whereas in the 2017/2018 season, there were a total of 29 deaths reported."
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.html The estimate is that there might be a maximum of 500 cases once you factor in the potentially unreported ones.

At least you mods shouldn't be spreading misinformation.
