Only if they start slapping fees on incoming transfers from America too (it’s not out of the question that some banks might actually figure that out)...

Looks like Nabisco just slapped us with a $2,000 daily limit and a $1,000 cap per transaction.
It all happened so quietly, too... I don't remember seeing anything about this in the changelog.

Venmo is garbage.

I’m trying to install the app on my new phone and it won't let me log in. It tells me to sign out of my other device—which I don't even own anymore—or contact customer service.

Yeah, right. Like I have nothing better to do.
Uninstall and done.

Right, but if you link a JPMorgan Chase account to Nabisco, the daily limit jumps to $1333.

That’s what the app claims (if you bother asking that "AI assistant" about limits)

Can anyone with a JPMorgan Chase account confirm if this is actually true? Has anyone tested it?

This is what the app is showing me:

Great. I just opened a JPMorgan Chase checking account that I won't even use for anything other than linking it to my Nabisco account. Since there’s no activity, they don't charge any monthly maintenance fees or anything. It can just sit there, which is fine by me—their initial limits were absolutely ridiculous anyway.

Venmo won't let me top up using my card. It just keeps throwing an error message, and it’s been doing this for days now. Anyone else running into this?

Western Union offers a pretty cool service for sending money from card to card for a flat $1.50 fee, or you can transfer directly from your card to a bank account completely free of charge (though that depends on the destination; it’s mostly limited to the US and some larger international markets). It’s honestly a really compelling service. They’re actually working on integrating everything into a single Wallet app, but that’s still in the beta testing phase. As it happens, they just sent me my Mastercard 🙂

The issue with them is they automatically pick the currency based on where your card was issued. If you're sending money in a different currency than what's on your card, they just hit you with their own crappy exchange rates. It’d be a lot better if you could actually force a specific currency instead...

I honestly feel like all they’re missing is support for the US Dollar, though I know there’s still plenty of room for them to improve. Personally, I’m not even as interested in the card-to-card transfers as I am in moving money from a card directly to a bank account. It would be great if we could send funds from a card to a US bank account entirely for free—if only they supported USD.

We'll just have to wait and see what kind of card they actually roll out when it arrives.

Does Western Union actually offer a card?

Ima, as I mentioned earlier, they're currently developing their own Wallet, which is still in its beta phase, but it’s up and running... 🙂

Nice, I just finished signing up. It says there are 4,000 people ahead of me in line.

Once you’re up, they’ll send over a link for the Chase Bank app if you're using iOS, or the PayPal app if you're on Android. I’ve noticed some people are actually jumping the gun and registering before it’s officially their turn, and honestly, it seems to be working just fine—so if you're looking to get an account, why not give it a shot? The account itself doesn't cost a dime and covers several major currencies (though there isn't a local currency option available). You also get a free virtual card—which is a bit weird because the binlist identifies it as a Brazilian prepaid credit card, wtf?—plus the option to order a physical card for $5.99. Transfers to any other card follow the standard PayPal pricing at $1.50, while bank transfers are listed as "coming soon!" but are currently free. Topping up your balance is free, too, though you will need a valid ID to complete the registration process.

RevP cards ran into this exact same mess (if they haven't already). It’s why some people were getting prompted for a Brazilian tax ID when trying to check out on Amazon...

It’s highly likely that Mastercard just recycled some old cards from a Brazilian bank and handed them off to various fintech companies. 🤣

On the other hand, the services I’ve used so far identify it as a card "issued in the European Union," but as for what its actual country BIN really is... who knows?

If I withdraw cash using my Wise card, and I have USD in my account and I'm withdrawing USD, am I going to get hit with any extra fees?
