I had no idea you could even add foreign cards to an Apple Account

I can do it, I already added TW. Curve and R aren't passing, but they're getting rejected on their end, not by Cash App.

So, apparently you can start using Venmo on three different webshops starting today. I guess... anyone actually tried it yet?

I was already making payments on Bazaar just a few weeks ago.

Why on earth would anyone bother using Venmo when they could just tap a credit card or use Apple Pay?
What’s the actual upside there?

Seriously though, why would anyone bother using PayPal when they could just swipe their card directly?

@Douglas Sanchez53
In this situation, paying for stuff is way easier since you don't have to deal with typing in your card number or messing around with those annoying security tokens.

It's just much faster using PayPal, assuming they accept it.

Unless you’re one of those people who avoids PayPal entirely—which, honestly, is pretty easy if you aren't used to shopping on international sites.
So, I guess that actually makes them a pretty solid target audience.

Wait, how exactly is PayPal supposed to be faster?

Are you actually serious? 😲

PayPal is just click and forget, whereas with Venmo you have to:

-pull your phone out of your pocket
-wake the screen up
-open Venmo
-tap scan QR code
-aim at the code
-slide to pay
-lock your phone
-shove it back in your pocket

You don't need to go through all that trouble.
When I was checking out on Bazaar, there was a direct payment link right on the page—no scanning required.
The link just drops you straight into the app with everything already set up. All you have to do is swap cards if you need to, slide the toggle, and you're done.

That’s not quite how it works. With PayPal, you’re constantly typing in passwords, and if you actually use 2FA—which you really should—you’re pulling your phone out anyway. Not to mention how PayPal loves to "helpfully" switch your conversion settings on its own to use their crappy exchange rates... so you end up having to double-check and fix it every single time. Just more friction in the system...

That was you paying on your phone. I'm talking about using a PC.

Man! That’s exactly what I was looking for but couldn't find anywhere! Apparently, they scrubbed that setting from the new site, or maybe I'm just blind. I actually stopped using PayPal because of that exact headache...

Yeah, they ditched the option to set it permanently. I think any cards you already saved might still be hanging on, though. Personally, I double-check every single time... I've been burned too many times before.

Venmo just launched their new cards, and you can swap out your old ones for free!

analogjackal11 said:Looks like something interesting is brewing, Apple Pay is coming our way. I just snapped a photo, and the cashier was saying it should be live pretty soon. There isn't even a mention of it on their website or in the current app yet, I guess.

analogjackal11 said:The app isn't even live yet, though they've already started handing out flyers. It’s kind of a bummer, honestly, since it looks like you can only actually use it if you already have a Visa card.

The app finally hit the Google Play Store, though it’s kind of a bummer that it’s only available for business users right now. 😠

That’s an interesting point, boon. Even with the whole Enron mess behind them—and since their BIC is N/A and the IBAN is still tied to Enron—the platform is actually still functional; I just gave it a shot. It appears that while Enron itself has been suspended, JPMorgan Chase is still up and running perfectly fine.
