Jamie Mitchell2 said:So, I finally got a reply from Cash App support: "You can't actually use an A-bon to load money directly into your Cash App wallet. A-bon is strictly for depositing funds into accounts held by our partners like DraftKings, PSK, Germanin, Admiral, Caesars Palace, BetMGM, Rizk, and Senator." >

So yeah, basically useless for anything other than dumping cash into betting sites and casinos.
Looks like I'm gonna have to try my luck with Revolut instead.

Using Revolut should be the easiest way if it actually works. Why haven't you tried that yet? 😁

Eh, I haven't even gotten my hands on that credit card yet. Won it in some giveaway, and apparently, it won't show up until after New Year's Day. This was just me doing some preliminary digging on how to move the cash around.
Looks like once that card finally hits my mailbox, I'm going all in with Revolut...

Just offer someone a 10% discount and cash it out for cold hard cash.

Yeah, or whatever...

Just a quick side question though—if I top up an Apple Pay card or some prepaid debit thing and give it to someone over in Canada as a gift, can they actually use it normally over there? Like, buy stuff, hit up an ATM, all that good stuff?

My mistake.

You pay via IBM in Germany.
In the US, you can't just walk in and drop cash for that option.

What if you just switch your location to Germany and try using that A-pass code we bought here?

I'm not so sure about that.
It might be worth a shot, though.
My only concern is what happens if the mobile data fails us.

Just finished my first PayPal top-up at a gas station, then hit some sites online and even threw a few bucks on the Powerball... My God, the speed, the ease, the sheer elegance of it all. PayPal, where have you been all my life?

Gotta strike while the iron is hot and expand on this a bit: if I load up a second PayPal card and send it over to a buddy in Canada as a gift, can they actually use it normally there? Like, shop online, hit an ATM, the whole nine yards? And if I top it up here with cash, can they just start spending it immediately on their end?

If the answer is yes, I’m seriously considering tattooing "PayPal, I love you" on my freaking forearm.

Yeah, plus the exchange rate probably won't be the best deal, and you'll get hit with those annoying ATM fees just to withdraw cash (just like back home in the States).

True, that’s just how it goes. But honestly? Just knowing I can zap cash onto someone's card in a totally different country right when they need it? That alone makes all those extra fees worth it...
Awesome.
Thanks, Mephisto.

Maybe he could just set up his own aircash account and grab his own card, then you could just transfer funds from your aircash to his.

The idea of grabbing a card for him isn't really following the rules, though. Cards are meant to be personal, so you should probably be the only one using yours. I mean, they might not notice right away, but if they see you using the aircash app in a suburb in Ohio, and then a minute later someone in a different state is pulling cash out with your card, some red flags might start popping up.

You could probably do something similar with Revolut too. The upside is there aren't any fees, but the downside is you can't top up a Revolut account with cash at a local pharmacy or convenience store, and the card itself costs a little more.

Scanning barcodes for bill payments won't cost you a dime through April 1st, 2023. 🙂

So anyway....
I always figured they let people have multiple cards specifically so different people could actually use them. Like a family setup—you give one to the kid, one to your wife, and then you just send them money whenever they need it.
That makes way more sense to me than just carrying around a bunch of extra plastic myself...

More than a little, actually, since aircash is free (Sportcard cobrand).

Isn't the fundamental concept behind an aircash card centered on online shopping?
The whole idea is that you load a specific amount onto the card—giving yourself peace of mind by ensuring no third party can misappropriate funds from your primary accounts...

Or am I perhaps misunderstanding the logic here—is it simply a matter of someone not having a traditional credit card, so they transfer funds from their bank account to this card just to use it wherever needed for the sake of technical simplicity?

Even when you're buying stuff in person, they can claim it's a security thing... I mean, someone could just swipe your physical card right out of your wallet.

So, I basically just pick up a card at a convenience store.
Then I load whatever amount of cash I want onto it.
Fine.
But how does the actual deposit process work?
And am I actually able to use this for my everyday expenses?

I'm curious about one thing...
Am I considered a cardholder rather than the actual owner?
What's the catch if there aren't any fees or hidden charges involved?

From what I gather, PayPal will function perfectly fine as a card or digital wallet. The only real hiccups would come from third-party stuff—like a bank's POS terminal at a store or an ATM, for instance.

If I happen to be abroad that night, the card should still work, right?

I'm trying to figure out which service to move my funds to so I actually have access to them during that window.

Except of course Revolut or Bunqa.

Don't they all rely on Chase's infrastructure to actually run their cards?
If that's the case, I'd say if Chase decides to pull the plug on their payment system, even PayPal is going down with them.
Someone please set me straight if I'm totally missing something here.

I'm not even sure if they're actually running their card system on JPMorgan Chase's infrastructure.
