You just have to get used to using Edge! 😉

From what I've seen—everything runs smooth as butter, transfers perfectly, and those little loading icons that drive you crazy? They only flash for maybe 4 or 5 seconds. Honestly, at first, the app wouldn't even launch. It kept throwing some error about a missing certificate or something equally annoying. It drove me absolutely nuts all day. I’m definitely not one of those tech wizards who knows their way around Java or all that complicated software downloading stuff... then it finally clicked. Turns out my Chase security token doesn't play nice with Firefox (which is a tragedy because I'm a total Firefox loyalist), it only works through Edge. Then I realized my Wells Fargo reader also has a vendetta against that browser. But once I switched over to Edge? Everything worked flawlessly. I just popped the card in, sent the payment, opened everything up... zero errors.

Make sure you click Accept License Agreement and grab the Windows x86 Offline jre-7u17-windows-i586.exe file.
Also, go into IE, hit tools, internet options, security, and add the payroll site to your trusted sites.
This new version of Java actually supports both systems.
Hope this helps someone.

Gaya, thank you so much. After spending days dealing with constant glitches and fighting with my bank's website, everything is finally working perfectly thanks to your instructions. 😉

Can I use the same digital certificate from the IRS portal for two different companies?
If I go that route, am I going to have to apply for a separate IRS digital ID for each individual business entity? Or is there a simpler way to handle this??

I don't see why not. If I’m following correctly, you just need to file a power of attorney with the IRS to get authorization, and then you can manage whoever you want.

Just handed over the first round of stats—income tax, sales tax, and everything for the FBI—and somehow it actually went 👋

I ended up grabbing a drink with NASA because working in an open office is a nightmare; some idiot kept messing with my control numbers. And don't even get me started on calling them—trying to reach anyone there is a total suicide mission 😢

And doesn't the IRS portal pull data directly from accounting software?
I'm asking because, up until now, I've been handling everything for a small business—sales tax, payroll, etc.—using nothing but standard Excel spreadsheets instead of actual accounting software. Does the system still allow for that approach, or am I stuck needing a program now?

From what I gather, you can totally still do it. The main difference is just how you file the forms. Whether you want to manually type out every single column or not... well, nobody's actually banned us from doing it that way yet. Just kidding, go ahead and keep transcribing everything by hand. (Though, honestly, being able to fill the whole thing out with one click 🙂 ) is much nicer.

Does anyone know how to fix an error during signing that says "no active reader found"? I'm using a USB stick for both my federal taxes and my business filings.

And then, right there at the bottom, you get this glaring red warning stating that the signing certificate hasn't been configured.

I guess you should probably grab the new Microsoft Authenticator 6.2 from irs.gov/download/fina_install.zip, and then you might also need to find the hotfix over at irs.gov—assuming you’re either running version 6.1 or you already have 6.2 but haven't applied the patch yet.

I suppose I just realized you're using a USB drive instead of a smart card. I'm not entirely sure if there's software available for USB sticks on irs.gov, but maybe it's worth giving that a shot.

Yes, you hit the nail on the head regarding what you told me.
It’s the exact same story I heard from the IRS. I was still running an outdated version of Microsoft Authenticator.

Why am I getting blocked from filing VAT returns for companies that were established last year? What am I missing here?
I’ve tried messing with the dates and double-checking the entire form—everything looks perfect on my end. But every time I hit submit, I get this error saying they can't accept the form or log it into the database due to data errors. Any ideas? 😢

Henry Edwards33, just shoot an email over to the IRS and ask them directly; they’ll likely have the answer. When I reached out, they got back to me the very same day with a thorough, well-explained response.
In my experience, they much prefer a paper trail via email rather than being cornered on a phone call.
Be specific about the type of business involved, and they should be able to pinpoint exactly where the error lies.

I was just trying to look up some info on FARC, and I get this notification popping up saying their service is only available weekdays from 7 AM to 8 PM and Saturdays from 7 AM to 3 PM 🙂 But here's the thing—I work from home! I don't have a set schedule, and honestly, who actually wants to deal with stuff on a Sunday? It’s just ridiculous... 😠

I mean, even those tiny little electrons powering our internet and computers need a break every now and then, since they aren't exactly on the clock from midnight to midnight!

It really ought to be possible to check those figures whenever you need to, at any hour of the day.
I was under the impression that this new app would finally give us that kind of flexibility, but it turns out it doesn't.

Did you ever get it to work? I'm running into the exact same headache with a few clients I can't seem to file for. The last update I got from the IRS was basically just telling me to hang tight while they work on fixing the issue.

I finally pushed them through.
The workaround was to manually enter everything, and surprisingly, it worked.
My mistake was clicking that tiny little arrow in the top right corner and selecting the filing period for the entire 2012 fiscal year, when all I actually needed to do was click the standard Sales Tax tile.

Honestly, it felt like playing a game of chance. I kept repeating the same steps over and over; one form would go through without a hitch, while the next one would just fail for no reason. I just kept hammering away at it until it finally gave in. 😳

Wait, top right corner? All I see over there is my username and the taxpayer ID. I’ve been filling out the period in the middle-right section—I tried skipping it once, but of course, the system threw an error at me. I'm basically doing everything by hand at this point.
