So I just picked up my new card and tried to link it to PayPal, but the site keeps telling me it won't work because the issuing bank rejected it. 😕 Anyone have any clue what’s actually going on here?

Edit: I guess this kind of headache is just part of life here, honestly. I’m actually at the local Chase branch right now picking up the card and I just loaded some cash onto it so I could try to verify the account, but when I called customer service, the guy told me the deposit hasn't cleared yet. I don't really get it... you'd think a cash deposit at the teller would hit the account instantly, right?

I mean, what do you think—does the lady at the teller window actually know which specific account to dump the cash into? 🙂 In my experience, they gave me an account number for the transfer that was basically just the general bank routing info, while the number they call for the actual card is different, so then the bank has to manually move the funds over to the card sub-account. Later, when I checked my digital statement in my inbox, I saw there’s actually a dedicated card account number you can send money to directly—it looks something like 2500009-2xxxxxxxxx. Anyway, honestly, you might just want to hit up the nearest ATM and check your balance to see if the funds have actually landed yet...

Look, I get how the whole system works, but she had my physical card right there in her hands, so I figured she'd pretty much see exactly where the money needed to go. 🙂

Can I use a Visa Prepaid Gift Card to pay for a rental car? Specifically, can I use it for the security deposit—that pre-authorization thing they hold to cover damages or whatever? Assuming there's enough money on the card, of course.

Thanks 😁

So, I was wondering... can other people actually put money onto this card? Like, could someone just walk into a Chase branch or hit up a local CVS with a standard money order and deposit funds directly onto it?

Yeah, you definitely can,

but there’s a little catch—you’ll need to grab that specific card batch number from your account details and make sure it's included in the payment reference field when you're making the transfer to Chase. Honestly, the easiest way to figure out exactly what that number is without driving yourself crazy is to just give your bank's customer service line a quick ring; they'll have it right there on their screen for you.

How do you actually get this card? Do you just walk into a Chase branch and they hand it to you right then and there, like you're picking up a gift card or following the usual routine for any other card? Does that mean the PIN and the physical card both show up in the mail later??

Thanks

Your PIN will arrive by mail, then you just go pick up the card at your local bank branch.

Grrrrrrr, I tried topping up my card yesterday at noon so I could settle a bill through PayPal, and I’m still stuck in limbo because the transaction keeps getting rejected. It just tells me the card can't be used for this payment 😠 I already called Chase twice; the first guy I talked to claimed the funds hadn't even cleared yet, and then some woman told me it might take up to 24 hours to process. Well, those 24 hours are almost up, and I have to head out into the city soon, so I'm wondering if I should just bother swinging by a local branch or whatever? Anyone else dealing with this kind of nonsense?

So, I tried paying my bill on eBay via PayPal yesterday using a Visa Prepaid Gift Card, but I kept getting hit with this random error 10417. No clue if the issue is actually with the card itself or something else entirely. A buddy of mine just paid the exact same bill using his own card without any trouble at all.

The card is solid. I actually went ahead and submitted my application using my driver's license. It took about $8.25 two weeks to get my account officially opened. Once the card arrived, I put it to the test immediately. Online payments? They work like a charm... just smooth and effortless.

My Visa Prepaid Gift Card finally showed up today, but when I tried to link it to my PayPal account, it wouldn't let me. What gives? Is it because I haven't loaded any cash onto it yet, or is there something else going on?

You actually need to have some cash on that card—PayPal usually runs a tiny temporary charge to verify things.

After that, you'll have to wait for your statement to show up or head down to your local bank to grab the specific PayPal transaction ID needed to authorize the card.

Just a heads-up: that small amount stays sitting in your PayPal balance, since they can't exactly bounce it back onto a prepaid card.

Can I top up this Visa Prepaid gift card at Wells Fargo or some other bank? And if I do, will I get it the same day?

Best,

If you move it onto the card first, you can actually get a proper refund from PayPal without all that headache.

You have to head down to the branch and fill out an application—it usually takes about ten days for the card to actually arrive.

Well, it didn't work for me on this specific card—though, interestingly enough, the refund did hit my debit card from a different bank.

I’ve been using this card for months now without a single hiccup whenever someone needs to transfer funds to my account. But at Chase, they’ve already rejected my deposits twice—first because they claimed 😳it was a foreign currency card, and then they had the audacity to tell me I don't even exist as a customer! It’s baffling. How can transfers go through perfectly fine at one institution while hitting a brick wall at another? Is it really that much of a headache for other banks to accept a VISA Prepaid Card?

I also wanted to ask if it's possible to receive an international wire transfer onto this card? Additionally, when I'm using PayPal to pay, can I use a different shipping address for my order—say, somewhere in Canada or Mexico?

I guess you totally can, where you just set the shipping address to somewhere else but keep the billing address matching the card, though I suppose some shops might be picky and refuse to ship if they don't match, since they do that to prevent fraud, I think.
With PayPal, you can probably just set up an automatic transfer to that card so the money moves from PayPal to your card on the 1st of every month, although it might take about 3 to 5 days to show up and I believe PayPal takes a tiny little fee for withdrawing funds.
But then again, you could probably just request a manual withdrawal whenever you want, too.
