Personally, whenever I'm gripped by fear, my rational brain just shuts off completely; I stop thinking with my head and start acting entirely from the heart...

She actually had plenty of time to process things while she was there... I'm not sure why you're fixating on that specific point, but she just decided she was going to get out eventually. Maybe it was a spontaneous decision that day, or maybe she’d been quietly planning her move for months... who knows...

In the beginning, she definitely didn't have a shot at escaping; she was probably just paralyzed by shock and fear. Eventually, she "adjusted," bonded with him, and then there's all that psychological stuff the experts have already pointed out...

That inaccuracy regarding the jacket and jewelry actually made its way into our local news.

The "modern jacket" was actually just the standard police uniform. I watched the interview with the officer from day one; she mentioned giving Natascha the jacket because it was freezing out and the girl was poorly dressed.
As for the jewelry, she didn't take it. Natascha simply commented on how nice it looked, mentioning she could never afford anything like it because Prilkopil always told her he didn't have the money for such things.
