Hey everyone... I see all you guys are busy hunting down wedding decor, but I’ve got a different question. Anyone here recently tied the knot in a major cathedral? Like, how far in advance do you actually need to book the date? 🙄

Pollux, I am so incredibly sorry you're going through all of this right now... People can truly be so cruel sometimes. 😢

If you listen to how others handle things... you really ought to make that decision as soon as you decide to move in together.🤣!!
And then, of course, there is the matter of when the actual wedding takes place.

Honestly, those are just those kinds of shops where everything is priced at 12 or $4.25...

Hey everyone, just wanted to say hi. My wedding is officially set for September.
I’d highly recommend checking out Stella Florals in Jacksonville. Their invitations and thank-you cards were top-notch. The pricing was fair, and I got the full VIP treatment—flowers, boutonnieres, the decorated car, and even the venue... plus the cathedral, which you won't find in Indianapolis. The cathedral is over in Jacksonville; that little church on the downtown square in Indy is just a 😛

Even though the lady from Indianapolis already answered the question, I’ll just drop the specific passage from the Bible that the Catholic Church uses as the foundation for the sacrament of confession...

"Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven; if you deny them, they are not forgiven" (John 20:22-23).

I can't remember if it was an ad or what, but I was actually looking into hiring Stella. I saw her work at a few weddings recently and honestly, everything looked great... but in the end, my fiancé and I decided to go with Palm. Still, major props to Stella though...

We've already locked in our venue—Barun Trenka VK (the Bos halls)—so I was wondering if anyone here has hosted an event there? I’d love some pointers on the little details I should keep an eye on and what specific stuff I need to hammer out with them during planning. We’re doing the full package through them—drinks, catering, desserts, the whole nine yards—but I haven't pulled the trigger on the wedding cake yet since I'm still in the dark about how they handle those.
The day after the big day, we're doing a lunch over at their Salaš ten spot; it’s absolutely gorgeous there, plus it's a total lifesaver because they handle all the setup and transport themselves.
I also managed to book the Quattro band from out in OS, and they seem pretty solid—definitely look like they know how to keep a crowd moving!
Now, I'm still hunting for a killer photographer in the area, plus I need to figure out flowers, boutonnieres... the usual stuff.

Hey annyG, regarding your search for flowers and a photographer, I actually heard some lovely things about a married couple based in Cerna! They are located right off the main highway heading toward Gradište, on the left side just before you hit the second bridge. They work as a duo, and word is they are incredibly affordable, especially if you book them as a package deal—the husband handles the photography while the wife does all the floral arrangements. Since I have already officially booked Krizmanić from Vinkovci for my photography, I was thinking of just visiting that lady in Cerna specifically for the flowers, as her work is supposedly spectacular. Just thought I would pass that along for your information!

Dennis Ramos, check your PMs...
well, they actually have them at IKEA...
we were driving through Missouri this past Saturday and I looked around, but the prices just weren't worth it...
I'm currently trying to negotiate with a local florist to see if they'll just rent me those containers instead...

Hello ladies, I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to visit that new bridal boutique located on Strossmayer enough to pass by the Rock Church.... the dresses displayed in their window are simply exquisite. If anyone happens to be searching for a wedding party color scheme featuring white and green, I must say there is one particular gown in the display🤣—a stunning white piece accented with a green sash!!!😍

Lindsay said:I wouldn't recommend them at all! I ordered flowers there and it was such a huge mistake... everything, absolutely everything, turned out completely different from what we had agreed on!!!
It’s better to pay a little extra than to end up with a wedding bouquet that looks nothing like what you asked for!!!

They gave me a different bouquet too. Though, honestly, the flowers themselves were lovely.
I specifically didn't want certain pieces hanging from the bouquet, but in the end, they just did it their way...

Can someone please explain to me—like I’m five years old here—how I actually get to the wedding expo at Pampas this weekend? So, I get off the train and then... 😁
thanks so much!

Do you even know the hours or the schedule for the expo? There's nothing listed online except last year's info. Honestly, it would be better if someone from Indianapolis handled these directions so nobody messes it up...

Getting to Pampas isn't rocket science. I'll give you two ways depending on whether you feel like walking or not. Either way, just pull up an interactive map of Indianapolis online so you don't get lost.

Option 1—a little walk + the light rail—you hop off the train and head straight down Radić Street until you hit the intersection with European Avenue. There's a station right there. Once you finally catch the light rail heading toward Višnjevac—and maybe sneak on because tickets are a rip-off—get off about 10 stops in (check the display, I think) and take the first left. Walk raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaight straight to Pampas.

Option 2—light rail + light rail (no walking, but you have to transfer)—there’s a station right in front of the station. Ride it for 3 stops, grab the next one heading toward Višnjevac, and ride that for 9 stops.

If anything is confusing, let me know!!

And remember the old saying: Read the map, ask a local 😂!!!

Roy says: But what if the Bishop was in on it too? 😁

It seems unlikely that such a thing could be overheard. It’s mostly just speculation, I suppose. I find it hard to believe that anyone would actually do that.🙄

Pollux
maybe go back to him, but don't answer any of his questions; just request a specific date and time for an appointment.
If he tries to question you about anything, [I]"why?"
just tell him: "it's a private matter."
If your spouse truly doesn't want to see him, then perhaps you should approach his superior and request that he be recused, if that is even possible.

Pollux,
I found myself in a very similar situation once—same church, same priest. Neither of us actually belonged to that specific parish, but I was adamant about getting married there because my grandmother and parents were married in that exact building, and I had received a sacrament there myself. We just really wanted it to be that church (well, I wanted it, and my husband went along with it 😍).
We initially called ahead to ask if he would perform the ceremony if our own priests gave us permission. He told us straight out that he doesn't like stepping on his colleagues' toes and prefers to prioritize couples from his own parish, but if our local priests cleared us, he would do it. My priest thought his reasoning was a bit flimsy, but he gave us the green light anyway. Since my husband belongs to the downtown Cathedral, they didn't mind at all since everyone tends to crowd the downtown services anyway.
He was actually quite pleasant during the meetings leading up to the wedding when we were dropping off paperwork and going through the rites. However, on the actual wedding day, he was in a terrible mood and did something truly awful in my eyes: he kicked my little flower girl out of the church, saying, "Take the child out so she doesn't ruin the service." I should mention she’s just a little girl who wasn't making any mess at all; she goes to church with her mom every Sunday, so she knows exactly how to behave. Because of that, the godparents ended up having some pretty heated arguments with him both before and after the ceremony.
The ceremony itself and the sermon were lovely, and I am genuinely grateful he welcomed us and allowed us to marry in the church we loved, but his behavior was a huge mistake that left everyone with a bitter taste in their mouths.

I won't even get started on how some guests had to stay outside because they didn't have anything to cover their shoulders. They could have anticipated that most churches require shoulders to be covered, but honestly, any church could keep a few yards of fabric on hand for those who forget. It's not their job to provide it, obviously, but it would certainly prevent those awkward situations.
My impression was that he is a very self-centered man who simply lets his mood dictate how he treats people.
As for what you mentioned regarding the car and the house, I don't think that has anything to do with this story, IMHO. Not all priests receive a steady salary, especially in smaller parishes, and not all of them get cars. And yes, there are plenty of good priests out there. We shouldn't judge the Church or God based on priests who can't seem to behave themselves. God is what matters.
I'm not sure what you can do. Technically, you have the right to marry in any parish, though the Church encourages staying connected to your own parish and community, which is supposed to feel like family. That's the official stance.
I truly believe you just ran into him on one of his bad days. Speaking from experience, perhaps it’s better that this happened now rather than on the actual wedding day.
Regardless, I really hope your wedding day turns out exactly the way you want it to.

panda, wait, how are you traveling all the way from Chicago to Indianapolis for the trade show?
I was actually thinking about swinging by for a quick stroll through the exhibits myself. Want to head over together? I can meet you at the train station. Let's swap numbers via DM.
Is anyone else planning on walking the floor with us?
I won't have a ton of free time, unfortunately, but I can definitely carve out an hour or two.

Greetings!

I’m honestly at a loss for words regarding this whole situation... except for the fact that my local pastor is only human. He probably just had one of those rough days, and maybe—just maybe—his outburst should be forgiven.
Pollux, you saw him once, didn't you? You had a single conversation with him and that's it. Do you actually attend Sunday service at that church? Do you listen to his sermons? Have you ever observed how he treats children? I highly doubt it...
In my experience, he is one of the finest pastors around, and when it comes to how transparently he manages things and cares for his parish, I have nothing but praise.
If he lost his cool with you, try to forgive him like any true believer would. I am certain he feels regret for being so blunt...

If you want to get married in that church because of those sentimental ties, I believe you can. The church isn't his personal property, after all. In fact, another priest from that same church could perform the ceremony for you; it doesn't strictly have to be the head pastor.
If you are persistent enough, go for it and make it happen. You don't need to be subservient or overly humble before a priest. Of course, you shouldn't be swearing or shouting, but talk to him like you would any other public official. He is a civil servant in many ways, and priests have their own supervisors and protocols to follow...

Try attending a few services, and you’ll see exactly what I mean. Don't judge a book by its cover!

That’s all from me.image
