I think people are just fundamentally lost these days. They’ve lost that gut instinct needed to figure out which way is actually up, so I guess they feel like they need someone to hold their hand through everything.

Here’s about 480 words on this topic—maybe when we all gather like this, we might gain a deeper understanding or catch some mistakes we missed before. Enjoy:

The soul is essentially a localized aspect of God, tucked right inside the heart of a living being. The spirit, on the other hand, is the formless aspect of God that acts as the connective tissue between all the infinite souls scattered throughout the universe.
Without the spirit, the soul would be blind—completely cut off from everything else out there.
And without the soul? Well, life would feel empty; people and all other living things would just be animated puppets moving through the motions.

Think of God, Spirit, and Soul as three different manifestations of the spiritual realm.

Depending on how you look at it—and honestly, different teachers or schools will give you their own specific definitions and ways of breaking them down—it usually just comes down to what the student is capable of grasping at the time.

Because of varying levels of study, it’s actually pretty common for people to swap these terms around; you'll often see someone mistake God for either the soul or the spirit.

From a strictly spiritual standpoint, though, these three are actually one and the same, even if they do have distinct differences.

Anyway, I'll do my best to lay it out:

The soul is what animates a living being.

The spirit is what animates the entire universe.

And all of this is made possible by God.

God is the master of both soul and spirit.

Now, we’ve established that breath equals spirit.

In other words, whoever dedicates their breath is experiencing a holy spirit.

Both the soul and the spirit have material counterparts in our world.
An analogy for the spirit might be the wind; meanwhile, the material reflections of the soul could be seen as our intelligence and the mind, for instance.
Without overthinking it too much,
the soul and spirit are two lower—though not material—attributes of the eternal God.

The soul is the essence of a human being. The spirit is the essence of the universe. God is the Essence itself.
Humans are constantly immersed in the spirit, yet we don't see it directly.
The soul is in constant communication with us, but we don't hear it clearly.
And God is constantly communicating with both the soul and the spirit, so none of it is visible to the naked eye.

Can God exist entirely on His own? Yes; and there isn't much we can do about that.
Could a soul survive even if the entire universe were destroyed? It could.
Could the spirit destroy the soul or overshadow God? No, it cannot.

God is the source; the soul is the ocean; the spirit is the current.

Even though the soul isn't a separate entity in its own right, there is an element of reality within it—a light of consciousness—that flows from the true ownership of being, which we experience as the "I am."

What is being suggested here is that while the soul is eternal, it cannot exist in total isolation. The soul manifests within the Spirit, and God manifests within both the Soul and the Spirit according to His own will.
God is that which does not depend on the Spirit or the Soul. But the soul is dependent on God.
The soul might even become independent of the Spirit, but the Spirit can never be independent of God.

To be a "being" is to be alive. Life is spirit. God is the single Living Being who is the Master and the Source of all life.

The Absolute has absolutely no "labels" or inherent forms of its own.

What this means is that it's incredibly difficult to perceive the Absolute on its own, because the Absolute doesn't possess the kind of characteristics or shapes you could simply point to with your finger.
However, the fact that labels and forms exist—and that we recognize them as such—is a clear expression of the Absolute's will. This shows us that even though forms aren't inherent to the Absolute, the Absolute is the very shape that exists within itself.

The soul says, "I am."
The spirit says, "I am That."
God says, "I am I."

Ahu, you’re just spinning your wheels writing all this stuff.

God/self is ONE.
Not something that happens after you synthesize things, but something that exists before you even start analyzing or breaking things down.

Amen 🙂

There you go, George! 😬

You're just throwing out claims like they're gospel (of course, you have a strong feeling they're true), but there isn't a single piece of evidence to back them up.

.

Goran, didn't you just finish lecturing us about great leaders who relied on intuition? Now you're attacking B. Bird for doing the exact same thing. If she’s using intuition and you’re claiming to be the rational one, we all know who’s actually in control here. 😉

Aretha Franklin is out here saying:
Wait, so God is just some three-dimensional being?!?! 😲

😵

🙄

I mean, if you didn't already know, it's the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

9 Because there's the Trinity testifying in heaven: "The Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one,

8 And there's the three on earth: "The spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three are one.

Spirit, soul—it’s nothing more than a desperate craving for immortality. Once death hits, you watch the body break down, dissolve, turn back into dust. It’s a grim realization. We cling to the idea of some non-material component because we're terrified. We need something to outlast the physical decay, something to carry our thoughts and memories into some transcendental existence.

I wish I could believe in an afterlife—though, honestly, my faith in such things has withered—but everything I observe about how this world actually functions contradicts it. Lightning doesn't strike because of Zeus!

So, to me, the "soul" and the "spirit" feel like mere relics of a bygone era... just pure nostalgia

I am the Architect of the cosmos.
I am both the Father and Mother of all existence.
Every atom, every star, originated from Me.
And eventually, everything will gravitate back to Me.
Think of it this way: mind, spirit, and flesh are merely temples
constructed for the Self to manifest
Its ultimate essence and divine state of being.

👍 😁

But the fact that labels and forms exist—or that we recognize them as such—is the obvious will of the Absolute. This provides clear insight that while labels and forms aren't inherent, the Absolute is the very form that exists by itself.

The soul says "I am"
The spirit says "I am That"
God says "I am I"

But WHO is doing all this thinking and conceptualizing? All that stuff mentioned above, huh? WHO is the criterion for your statements, or rather, the actor behind them?🙄 😉

Look, this isn't some Walmart "buy two, get one free" special. 😁 That’s my way of putting it. One is one, but it holds weight. If you think one can't exist without all three, well, that sounds like a personal issue—and a bit of a headache for Catholic doctrine. 😉

John, Fox News, Aretha Franklin, Sitting Bull; grizzly;

I've got a few questions floating around my head that have been weighing on me lately.

First off—if there actually is an "I" (but how can we ever truly prove that "I" exists?), is that "I" essentially the Soul?
How does one go about experiencing the soul? What kind of instrument is capable of recognizing it?
Is it the ego? Or maybe just intelligence?

To be clear, we're talking about spiritual matters here. And this isn't philosophy—philosophy usually relies on rules that nobody actually follows anyway.
If the theology itself is flawed, where does that leave us? These are the fundamentals, I'm telling you.🙂

Second question:
If the soul exists (and how would a soul even know it *is* a soul?), how do we tell it apart from the spirit or God? Can the soul distinguish its own essence from other souls, from the spirit, or from God?

In any narrative, we have to start with established concepts; otherwise, we’re just making up our own definitions as we go along.

Let's say our starting points are consciousness and energy.
In that framework, the Soul would be the source of consciousness, while the Spirit would be the source of energy. And then God would exist beyond all that—completely independent of both consciousness and energy.

Reading from an American theological textbook, we see this:
God is God.

Which basically means that God is guilty of being a tautology.
But it’s not just a tautology; paradox is also responsible for the following logic:

The soul is the instrument used to perceive the soul.
A perceived soul is the instrument used to perceive the Spirit.
And the perception of both the Spirit and the Soul is the instrument used to perceive God.

What is impossible for the mind (since it can't perceive anything without some sort of form), for intelligence (which struggles to assign itself an unsolvable task—or can it?), and for the physical body
(you can't use your hand to see your own eye), applies to spiritual phenomena too, plain and simple:

Only the soul can truly perceive the soul.

Some souls get lost in that loop. Some souls find inspiration. Some become spiritualized. And some are Divine.

Do you see now why this isn't really about having a debate?

Quincy:
First off; if there even is an "I" (how can we possibly verify its existence?) is that "I" actually the Soul?
By what mechanism is the soul perceived? What specific instrument of cognition is capable of recognizing the soul?
Is it the ego? Or perhaps intelligence?

Yeah, what exactly is the self? In other words, WHO AM I?

The "I" is just a thought... much like any other thought... a mere thought "about oneself," specifically regarding individuality.

But when faced with the question "WHO AM I?", the answer would be—even though that answer itself is just more WORDS and fails to capture the essence—I AM.

That’s from one perspective. Now, if you want to get into a debate, you could argue that the soul is some kind of energy body or whatever, but doing so explains absolutely NOTHING.
Those explanations above are nothing but hollow pretenses.😉

Quincy:
If a soul exists (how can a soul know that it is a soul?)
Heh. Therein lies the fallacy; you’re twisting the logic. I’m not sure if this analogy will land, but try looking at it this way.

The standard, flawed approach: viewing the soul as an "energy body" and so forth. It’s the equivalent of claiming the brain generates consciousness—though that version carries a thin veneer of scientific legitimacy.
You MUST look FROM YOURSELF, from within your own vantage point.

Because: EVERYTHING YOU PERCEIVE—both the material and the immaterial, along with every single thought—originates from WITHIN, from the mind, from YOU.!!!!!
The physical world follows the same rule, as does the concept of the soul and everything else...

Your entire individuality, your whole complex web of thoughts, everything you imagine, see, or feel, emerges from WITHIN...
How should I put it? It originates solely from itself...

Since EVERYTHING "floats" within consciousness, and your tiny individual "self"—which spends so much time obsessing over distinctions and relationships—is itself merely a thought... just as thoughts of God, the Absolute, or Spirit are also part of the soul...
And even this very thought and this very text...
Since it works THAT WAY, the truth—the "Absolute"—cannot be comprehended, understood, or reached by these means.

As long as there are QUESTIONS, there will be RESTLESSNESS.😉 When you STOP ASKING (that is, when you cease having questions), answers become unnecessary.
In short, there is NO ANSWER to this question.

Let’s take concepts like consciousness and energy as our starting points.
In that framework, the Soul acts as the fountainhead of consciousness, while the Spirit serves as the source of energy. And God? God remains beyond it all—entirely independent of both consciousness and energy.

Stop overcomplicating things for no reason.

Energy exists, period.😉 It doesn't have a "source"—even the physicists will tell you that if you listen closely enough.😉
