That has actually been the case for quite a long time now.
There must be someone held accountable if anyone were to get food poisoning from cookies.😁
In most cases, it is strictly monitored—the shop manager or owner takes full responsibility for ensuring everything is safe.
In smaller, local bakeries, you might still find people letting you bring in homemade cakes, but I honestly cannot remember the last time I heard of anyone bringing in completely home-made goods; the only exception would be at an outdoor festival or tent event.

I checked with the venue manager, and he told me we could just bring whatever we want without needing any paperwork.
It’s funny, because when he's working, he has to have every single receipt accounted for just to make sure his books balance perfectly!

I was just mulling things over while we were heading out with my folks to one more of those sit-downs with our hall manager, and then my darling confirmed it today—yeah, they really do need all that paperwork. Honestly, we don't even have a system like that where we're from; we just keep our own cookies at home and their cookies at their venue, and everything stays perfectly organized. I'm seriously looking forward to those treats 😍

I need some advice: has anyone here dealt with those bakeries in that small town near the Small Midwestern town? I was hoping Sister Biljana might have some insight.

You need every single receipt and certificate.
The venue owner is just renting you the space; they aren't responsible for the food or anything else you serve.
As the organizer, the liability for food safety falls squarely on you. (I heard about a situation near a small Midwestern town where inspectors showed up around midnight, right in the middle of the gift giveaway).
Keep your receipts and you can sleep at night... 😉
p.s. My godmother even had to produce a receipt from the florist. 😁

Not sure if this is the right spot for this, so bear with me. I’m setting up a candy buffet for an event. It'll have muffins, chocolate lollipops, various candies, and chocolates in little serving bowls. Does anyone have tips on where to buy the best bulk candy and chocolate? I don't want to just grab every color imaginable because it'll look messy; I need the candy colors to match the muffin design. Thanks in advance.

Hey there. Does anyone have any recent intel on the cakes and pastries from Kasnar or Andric? Looking for some fresh reviews. Thanks!

Has anyone here ordered cakes or pastries from Magnolia in Chicago? I'm mainly looking to get an idea of what they charge.
We’re hosting a small wedding—about 15 people—so I’ll probably need one or two cakes and a spread of sweets to serve at the house.
We aren't bringing anything into the restaurant.

I'd really like to steer clear of those standard, cliché wedding desserts.
If anyone knows a good spot that specializes in macarons, assorted cupcakes, mousses, or things like that, please let me know.

We usually get the Washingtonian pastries as part of our Pear-like catering package. A cake is included too, and I honestly don't have any complaints about it. Actually, I've heard quite a bit of praise for their pastry skills because many people we know order their birthday cakes and treats for guests.

We decided to go with a cake from the Sweet den (Groves). My sister had one of their cakes, and it was the first time in my life I've ever tried such a light, almost ice-cream-like cake. Usually, I avoid them at weddings or just stick to semolina cake, but everything else always felt so heavy with margarine and frosting that it was just unpleasant. We have a wedding at the end of June, and for anyone wanting those lighter flavors, you should definitely head there. We even picked out four different flavors because we couldn't decide on fewer. 😍

Hey Cure, what kind of fillings are you planning to use for your cakes? I was personally leaning towards something like a Black Forest or maybe a hazelnut nougat. Someone actually had the nerve to tell me that a Black Forest cake isn't "fancy" enough for a big occasion!🤷 Honestly though, what even defines a cake filling anymore? What counts as "festive" or high-end? I'm curious—what are you all planning to whip up?

Fancy cake flavors? People just refuse to innovate. 🤣
We stuck with strawberry-chocolate parfait, pistachio-hazelnut, and chocolate mousse. Your selection looks solid, especially that frozen wind 👍

I’m doing a three-tier setup—Sacher, Black Forest, and a fruit parfait—plus a side cake that’s just for us (😂) a non-fancy frozen mousse. Honestly, if you want the mousse, just get the damn mousse and ignore all the haters😉

I haven't heard anything about categorizing flavors into formal or informal groups yet, but I wouldn't dare recommend using Ice Wind since it’s quite a wet consistency (if you can call it that, haha), especially when working with sugar and meringue bases.
It also tends to be rather foamy, so I am uncertain how the total mass would hold up on those types of substrates.

One has to watch the weight, sure, but the pastry chef is there to make the call on whether it’s doable or not.
And maybe cosmicskipper44 won't have any extra icing for the cake anyway, so there isn't even an issue there. 😉

Haha. Honestly, I’ve got all those flavors covered in my book. :-)

I have a question for the group... I’m getting married this September, and everything is perfectly organized except for the cake. The wedding is taking place in Seattle, specifically at the Castle. For days now, I’ve been searching for a cake stand shaped like a ship. I even found a photo and sent inquiries to several local bakeries, but I keep getting told they can't provide a stand like that. Does anyone here know where I might be able to source such a stand? If you have any leads, please let me know... thanks in advance!

Has anyone actually tried the desserts from Mak na Konac? I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but honestly, looking at those photos... they look absolutely insane. Since we don't have a massive population here, I really wish we could get more of those super creamy cakes and dessert shooters. I'm tired of everything tasting like standard wedding catering—even though, full disclosure, I'm a sucker for those tiny little bite-sized wedding treats myself.

The treats are seriously good, just be ready to pay a premium for them.😉

I grabbed some of those Andric treats directly at their bakery and they were honestly pretty decent, nothing crazy but totally fine... though you really need to look into what their long-term contract terms or wholesale arrangements are actually like before you commit to anything big...
