Brandon Price3 said:$6.75, you're waiting three weeks for a card. You might as well just open the account now, because their cards definitely have a CVV. I use one of theirs and everything runs perfectly fine on PayPal.😬

They told me $13 regarding the account opening process, though I didn't bother asking about the specific timeframe.

That sounds much better. I’m heading out there tomorrow, so I’ll see how things shake out then. If only they hadn't gone and tightened up the deadline on us in the first place...

Not really; all their cards are processed through Germany, so there isn't any way to speed things up....

JPMorgan Chase also utilizes a CVV code, as I can confirm from my own experience 😉

Here’s the latest update from Bank of America. It turns out it’s all about $13, though not quite in the way you'd think—it isn't actually for opening a foreign currency account, but rather for closing one, where those $13 or their equivalent value have to remain sitting in the balance at all times. There aren't any monthly maintenance fees to worry about, though I should mention that my card won't be arriving in three weeks like they promised, but rather in four.

I had $13 in my account and I simply could not get the PayPal authorization to go through. Eventually, a woman from the card department informed me that I needed to maintain a minimum balance of 100 or $40 in the account. Once I added another $47, everything worked perfectly.

Honestly, I just transferred what I thought I’d actually need to spend, which is quite a bit more than those $13. It eventually dawned on me that the amount was meant to cover the fees for closing out my account entirely.

So, I’ve been thinking—as someone earning an average salary here in the States—since I'm with JPMorgan Chase, which card would you all recommend I get? All I really need is a credit card—meaning the ability to defer payments and buy things on credit—along with the flexibility to pay at any terminal or withdraw cash from an ATM whenever I need, all while keeping my account and card fees to an absolute minimum.

thx.

You should really look into getting that new Mastercard from Chase. They’re running this promo where you can snag a 5% interest rate for the first 12 months. Plus, if you're already using one of their banking packages, they'll waive the enrollment fee entirely
.
It basically functions like a credit card with a grace period—sort of like a revolving line of credit—and you can even split purchases into installments if the merchant happens to be partnered with Chase.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I've been getting the sense that a lot of people are feeling pretty skeptical about that new GO card idea.

Why is there so much doubt out there—I mean, seriously, why? 😕

I don't know, man, I’ve pretty much blown through my entire credit limit in just about a month, and honestly, I haven't even noticed any major hiccups or issues so far, as of right now......

Is this actually more cost-effective than just grabbing one of those "all-in-one" bundles—or maybe I should just stick with my current Maestro card and eventually upgrade to a Mastercard to get it all over with? Right now, I’m using the Maestro for ATMs and retail terminals, while the Mastercard is mostly for those occasional purchases I put on a payment plan...

Whether that package actually pays off depends entirely on how much you rely on their specific services—it’s really just a matter of how much you use them or think you might, and honestly, you're the only one who can weigh that up

I mean, look, all the cards come free of charge (whether we're talking Maestro, Mastercard, or Visa), plus you get the Zelle integration and mobile banking features $0.33, the ATMs or $0.33 are basically free to use, there aren't any monthly maintenance fees, and they offer better overdraft protection on your checking account, among other perks

But at the end of the day, whether any of that stuff is actually useful to you? That's something only you can decide

I’ve tried asking this in a few different places already, but since nobody seems to be getting back to me, I figured I'd just drop it here.
I’m looking to start shopping online. Since you pretty much need a card to do anything, I’m thinking about opening a foreign currency account at Bank of America so I can grab one of those Visa debit cards they offer. My main question is: does that specific card actually come with a CVV code? I can't buy anything online without one.
P.S. Just a heads-up, I don't have a steady paycheck right now, so a credit card is out of the question. That's why I'm leaning toward a debit card instead. The plan is to just transfer, say, $110 into the account and use the card to pay for stuff online.

If that card doesn't have a CVV, which American bank offers a debit card that actually does? (And keep in mind, I'm not talking about credit cards).

Do you actually have that card? Are you sure it has that number on it? I'm mostly looking to use it for online shopping, so if it doesn't work for that, I might just delete it...😬 Also, can I even open this account and get the card if I don't have a steady paycheck?

If you have a foreign currency account at Bank of America, you can usually snag a legitimate Visa or MC card without needing a regular salary😉

You sure about that? Those would be credit cards, right? Do they have those CVV numbers on the back too?

Of course. I'm talking actual credit cards—not revolving lines of credit—and yeah, they definitely have CVVs. I have one myself, though I rarely pull it out of my wallet.
