I've been waiting for over twenty years myself, so yeah, nothing yet.
I just want a cheap apartment and maybe half a beach house like the ones those well-connected types used to build—you know, the ones who snagged all the places my parents paid top dollar for, even though they only ever saw them in brochures.☕
Those same people probably swindled whatever was left, too.

Stop talking nonsense. I rented a car in Cuba and drove from Havana all the way to Baracoa without any issues. You can go wherever you want. No permits, no roadblocks, nothing.

And obviously, the standard of living in Cuba isn't any better than it is in the US.

That HDI metric is just straight-up garbage. It’s not reliable at all. I bet the criteria were cooked up by some absolute bottom-of-the-barrel fanatics, because honestly, when you look at places where everything is just pure depravity and people are being treated like cattle being herded into slaughterhouses, those are the spots where the numbers spike the most.

And yet, here you all are, actually competing to be part of a group like that.

I remember seeing some UN study on an old news site once... apparently kids in Cuba are the happiest on earth while they're growing up. Even with all their struggles, just because they don't have iPhones, MacBooks, high-speed internet, or even decent Nikes...

Look, every single system has its glitches—there’s no such thing as a perfect society, and there never will be.
A lot of people have tried to force one into existence through sheer power, but those experiments always end up collapsing under their own weight—much to the total shock of the socialist dictators and their little followers.

But if you look at history, it's crystal clear: the further a society drifts away from private property and economic freedom for its citizens, the worse off it gets. ☕

Exactly this 👍. It’s a brutally objective look at what life is actually like in Cuba. I guess I suspected this might happen—behind all our romanticized notions of that socialist corner of the world, there's just basic human nature, which is pretty much the same everywhere. If anyone wants that lifestyle, they should just move to their "paradise." Sure, America isn't Norway by any standard, but I wouldn't want to live in Cuba either. This system works because it gives you the freedom to shape your own life. Want to focus on your career? You can. Study, work hard, and suddenly the whole EU market is open to your ambitions. Want to prioritize family? You can, and the state even helps out with various incentives for having kids. Want to travel and see the world? Go ahead. Freedom implies responsibility, and I suppose some people just prefer being spoon-fed through life. That's different. ☕ Anyone still preaching about how "great" Cuba is should probably ditch their computer, phone, and all those other Western evils and just move there. ☕
