Joshua Garcia3 said:So, what's the deal with the antivirus and Norton AntiVirus? Did you actually run a scan on the machine? 🙂

Does it just reboot without saying anything, or are you getting a BSOD with actual text on the screen?

Nothing.🤷

A blue screen popped up once, but it vanished so fast I didn't even catch what it said.🤷

I haven't installed an antivirus yet.

Any ideas on what I should throw on there?🤷

@The Best F1 driver

I really hope that beast of yours is still under warranty, because this sounds like it could easily be a hardware issue. I’d suggest checking your temperatures first just to be safe.
Even though your power supply is definitely a heavy hitter, I truly hope it can handle all those high-end components you've packed in there. Good grief, you're running 6 hard drives!

Windows 7 x64 is... My PC keeps shutting down and rebooting on its own constantly. Every single time.😕

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus

There's the GA-X58A-UD3R and the GA-EX58-UD3R. Which one are you running?

Even if that power supply of yours is top-tier, I really hope it can handle all the monsters you’ve crammed inside that case. Good grief, you're running six hard drives.

Exactly. Just hop into the BIOS, check the PC health status, and see at what temperature the system starts rebooting.

I’ll weigh in here, mostly because my repair shop has been absolutely swamped ever since the new week rolled around... and honestly, it isn't because my work is lacking—heaven forbid—but because everyone's hardware is constantly failing. To all you folks out there who seem to enjoy nuking your Windows installs every single month, if not more often, I highly recommend just embracing the chaos of a new week... :P

So, if you're one of those people who loves reinstalling Windows every single month or even sooner, I highly recommend grabbing Windows 7... :P

Personally, I've been running Windows 7 for a year now without a single hiccup. Sure, I wiped the drive once, but that wasn't because the OS crashed or anything,
it was just because I wanted to freshen things up and get some more speed out of the rig 😁

I'm totally happy with Windows 7

Ahem... ahem...

System Info:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
OS Version: 6.1.7600 N/A Build 7600

OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Original Install Date: 10/28/2009, 1:52:19
System Type: x64-based PC
Hotfix(s): 72 Hotfix(s) Installed.

Which basically means... either you don't know what you're doing, or you're installing stuff you have no clue how to handle.

That’s just not fair... you got yours right through the company store... I actually had to hunt them down at Best Buy 🙂

(And they were out of stock for ages, too...)

I didn't even buy mine, so they run perfectly fine😁

I’ve only bothered to rebuild my ultimate setup once a year, mostly because it was originally sitting on a D partition alongside Windows XP....

Does anyone happen to know why my computer takes about 4 or 5 hours to wake up from hibernation instead of just staying hibernated until I actually press the power button?
Is there some kind of setting somewhere where I can just disable this automatic waking up? 🤷

Exactly. Pop into the BIOS, check the PC health status, and see what temperature is actually triggering the restart.

GA-X58A-UD3R

Usually stays under 40-45 degrees 🤷

Turns out it was likely a driver or BIOS issue🤷. I flashed a new BIOS and grabbed all the latest drivers—not from some old CD, obviously, but straight from the website. It’s been running fine for two days now (plus a fresh Windows install, of course)🙂.

The only thing I did was rip that damn TV card out of the machine. No way am I putting it back in.🤣

Hey everyone, I need a hand. I've got an older PC I’m looking to move up to Windows 7. I used to run it before, but everything was lagging constantly. :S Here’s the specs: Intel Pentium 4 at 3.00 GHz, 1.25GB of RAM, and no dedicated graphics card—just some integrated chip with about 96MB. :S My main question is: is there any way to get Windows 7 running smoothly, or is it always going to struggle compared to Windows XP? :S If anyone has tips on how to tweak the settings or some mods to disable certain features so it doesn't hang so much, let me know. Thanks in advance... and please, skip the nonsense. Appreciate it!

it should run fine, just don't overload it with apps. you'll definitely gotta tweak things a bit to optimize it.☕

AverMedia AVerTV Hybrid duo ii ( A188
It shows up in Device Manager once in a while, works fine, then just vanishes into thin air.
I don't think that's the issue here. Even when I pull it out, the exact same thing keeps happening.😕

AVerMedia - TV Tuners, Windows Media Player, IPTV and Multimedia Products - AVerTV Duo Hybrid PCI-E II

The latest driver version is two months old now. Did you actually download it yet?

stormybadger8 said:I haven't installed any antivirus yet.

Are you paying, or are you looking for a handout? 😁
Jokes aside, I’m using... Avast! Free AntivirusFine by me. 🙂

Is there some way to disable this auto-wake feature? 🤷

Sleep and hibernation: frequently asked questions

See the answer here: "Why does my computer not go into sleep or hibernation as expected, or why does it wake unexpectedly?"

As for antivirus, I just stick with Microsoft Security Essentials and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it. It's free, stays out of the way, and does a decent job catching all the junk, especially the stuff coming off USB sticks 🙂

Sometimes formerly IE won't let me download things because of language compatibility issues, but Chrome handles it just fine 🙂

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Which one should I actually go with? I'm not really into gaming, so I don't need anything high-end—just something decent for streaming movies and stuff.
