Anyone still running Windows 7?

Does anyone happen to know how to fix an issue where installers just won't launch on Windows 7 x64
Basically, I'm stuck because I can't get the main setup.exe to actually do anything for these specific titles:
Battlefield 2 update v1.7
Crysis warhead
FS 2004
IL 2 1946
Hearts of Iron 3
The weird thing is... when I click on setup.exe, I get that standard prompt asking "do you want to allow this program to make changes on this computer," which I naturally click yes to, but then absolutely nothing happens—no installer window, no progress bar, just total silence after the confirmation.
It’s a bit frustrating since all these games used to run perfectly fine back when I was using Windows XP 32.

I was actually thinking about the different editions, like the Home or Ultimate builds... I found them all.
What’s the actual difference between those versions, and which one should I grab?

If something isn't clear, just ask. 😉

Hey there... I haven't had a chance to sit down and read through every single thing you guys have posted about Windows 7 yet—there's a lot to get through!—but I am planning on installing it myself soon. I'm just wondering how it’s going to hold up on my current laptop... it's running a 1.6 GHz processor with 1 GB of RAM and such. 😁 Do you think it's actually worth making the jump and installing it?

Minimum system requirements are met, but just to be safe, run Windows 7 upgrade Advisor to see if your laptop can actually handle the pace. 😉

Thanks... I managed to get it installed without any issues. I just have one more thing on my mind... I can't for the life of me get this damn wireless working. It works perfectly fine over at a friend's place, but at my house—where I'm using Optima—it just refuses to cooperate. I've got a Thompson 780WL (from T-Mobile), and I've been wrestling with it all day long. No matter what I do, it simply won't accept the wireless connection, even though I've gone ahead and installed every single driver available. I keep getting this message saying "Windows was unable to connect to Thompson(bla,bla)..." Look, I'm really not an expert when it comes to this kind of stuff, so some help would be greatly appreciated—ideally from someone who's actually dealt with this headache before. What should I do????

Which program are we talking about here? Windows Defender? Or some other antivirus or antimalware software?
You can actually turn off notifications for specific security or maintenance activities if they're getting on your nerves.

Thanks... got it installed successfully. Just one more thing though—I can't seem to get this damn thing set up. Wireless. Just one word, but it covers a massive headache if you don't know what you're doing. It works fine on my buddy's machine, though. It’s not working at my place—I'm on Optima. I've got a Thompson 780WL from T-Mobile.I've been wrestling with this all day, and I just can't get the wireless to connect, even though I've installed every single driver available. It keeps throwing that error: "Windows was unable to connect to Linksys(bla, bla)..." Look, I’m not exactly a tech wizard, so I could really use some help here—preferably from someone who has actually dealt with this nonsense before. What am I supposed to do?
Can I sign up for DSL service without buying a new ADSL modem if I already have one on hand?
You need to make sure you have an Annex A type modem. Modems from other providers here in the States are different—they use the Annex B standard. That’s why a T-Mobile modem won't work if you're trying to get online through Optima. (Link.)

Greetings, fellow forum members.
I have a quick question, and rather than cluttering things up by starting an entirely new thread, I figured I would just ask it here.
At the moment, I am running Windows 7 ultimate x86, but I am planning on making the jump over to x64 eventually. However, before I commit to the change, I really want to get a feel for how the 64-bit version actually performs. My plan is to install Windows 7 Enterprise x64 onto a separate partition on my drive, which would essentially give me a dual-boot setup. I was wondering if anyone could confirm if this is actually feasible, and perhaps offer some practical advice on the best way to go about setting it up.
Thank you.

Right now, I'm running Windows 7 ultimate x86. I'm planning on moving over to x64 eventually, but I'd really like to test the waters with the 64-bit version first. My plan is to install Windows 7 Enterprise x64 onto a separate disk partition so I can set up a dual-boot system. Is this actually doable? Any advice on how to pull it off would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Just install VirtualBox on your current setup, then use that to mess around with Windows 7 Enterprise.
If you decide to go through with the dual boot for those two Windows 7 versions, follow this (similar) process.

I appreciate the response, though I believe I will opt for a dual boot setup instead; I have experience running W7 alongside XP in the past. This particular process seems significantly more straightforward since I won't be stuck having to manually repair the Windows boot loader once XP overwrites it with its own.

I find myself wondering why the Windows viewer refuses to display GIF animations properly... it simply presents them as static images rather than showing any movement at all.

Hey everyone, does anyone know how to turn off hardware acceleration on Windows 7?
http://www.pixelmetrics.com/Tips/Vid...celeration.php and http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...5093503AAjQNpS but I just can't find the setting anywhere.
I tried tweaking things to look like my screenshot below, but I've got no clue if I did it right since those specific options aren't even showing up:

I don't think you'll find that option in Vista or 7. I remember seeing a thread about Juiced 2 where people were asking for the exact same thing—trying to kill off that acceleration setting.

So, I've run into this headache:
I'm currently running Windows Vista 32-bit, but I'm trying to jump over to Windows 7 64-bit. Every time I try, I get that annoying message saying my current system isn't compatible—which, yeah, obviously, I get that part... So then I head into the BIOS, set it to boot from the CD-ROM, but the DVD with Windows 7 just won't be recognized or boot up at all.
(Just a heads-up, that exact same disc worked perfectly fine on my girlfriend's computer, so I'm pretty sure the disc itself isn't the issue)...
From what I've been reading, it might be some kind of issue with the CD interface or something, but honestly, I don't know the first thing about that stuff. I could really use some help figuring out how to fix this mess.
Thanks!

Have you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor yet?

I need some help here. I've been trying to install Windows 7 all day long and I'm stuck. Everything seems to go fine—all the features get those green checkmarks—until it reaches "completing installation." That's when everything breaks. It finds the graphics card and then just stops dead. The little loading icon keeps spinning, but nothing actually happens. It's been sitting there like this for hours. What should I do?🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏:
