Joshua Garcia3 said:It sounds like a driver issue, probably something related to your wireless card. Try this:
Right-click on This PC > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings and turn off Automatically restart. Next time it happens, you'll actually be able to read what the screen says, so just type it out here.
It basically says an error was found and Windows will shut down, blah blah.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this happened right after I rebooted This PC, maybe check if the new hardware or software components were installed correctly, blah blah.

Hey everyone, quick question. I burned a Windows 10 ISO onto a DVD, but when I pop it into my PC, nothing happens. I already set the BIOS to boot from the optical drive first. Any ideas what's going wrong?

The DVD/ISO has to be "bootable." What software did you use to burn it, and how exactly did you do it? 🤔

Is it actually true that by installing Windows 7, I won't be forced to hunt down dozens of individual drivers for my laptop's components, given that Windows 7 supposedly includes most of them automatically? Would I only need to manually download those few specific ones that appear on www.acer.com when selecting drivers for my particular model because they aren't built directly into the Windows 7 installation?

Exactly. Newer versions of Windows (mostly)automatically recognize the hardware you've got. If they don't,... 😉

I find myself facing yet another inquiry regarding user privacy. Back when I was utilizing Windows XP, it was entirely possible to maintain two separate accounts where both held administrator privileges, yet one user remained unable to access the private documents of the other. How might one achieve this same level of separation on Windows 7? Currently, I have established two distinct accounts and implemented password protection at the login screen, but I have discovered that I am still able to view the files belonging to the second user. Does anyone know how to properly wall off these directories? 😕

On my Ultimate build, I've only got this latest one; SP1 isn't even showing up for me.
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.93.695.0)
Download size: 370 KB
Update type: Important
And let's be real—that SP1 RC isn't exactly obvious on Windows Update.👍

nah...it's just a release candidate, hasn't fully dropped yet.

Same here (running Windows 7 Ultimate). I've only got that latest Defender update installed, but I'm expecting the next one any day now. I haven't seen any updates on this yet..
SP1 RC isn't even coming from Windows Update; it's actually... I'm here..
According to Wikipedia...:
A "release candidate" (RC) basically means you’re looking at a build that has everything it needs to become the finished product. It's essentially the final dress rehearsal before the official launch. It's ready for takeoff—unless some catastrophic bug decides to crash the party at the last second. We’ve reached the product stabilization phase. At this point, every single feature has already been fully designed, coded, and put through the ringer during one or more beta cycles with... There aren't any known showstoppers currently on the radar.."
Alright, let's get to work. Go get 'em. 😁

If you're running any pirated software, you might want to give this some thought—apparently, they're slapping on a "watermark evaluation copy 31.8.2011" code at Tray... 👍

Easy to get rid of. 👍

Has my sidebar simply vanished into thin air? Does anyone happen to know why this might be occurring? Every time I attempt to attach a new gadget to the interface, absolutely nothing happens. 😕
#2258 ·
What do you mean, "where's the sidebar?" You don't actually need a sidebar in Windows 7. Just right-click on your desktop, select Desktop Gadgets, and double-click whichever one you want to add. If that isn't working for you, then the issue is definitely coming from somewhere else.

Maybe try killing sidebar.exe in Task Manager first. Then you could probably just relaunch Desktop Gadgets from the Control Panel.

So I’ve been scouring Google, and honestly, every single piece of advice out there just keeps pointing me back to Disk Management...
I’ve got this 500GB hard drive and my plan was to split it into three separate partitions—something like 60, 280, and 160 GB—but, surprise surprise, it’s just not working. 😳
Some tech guy suggested I just try shrinking the volume by about 200GB, so I went ahead and did that 🤷. Now I’m sitting here with two partitions (one at 300GB and one at 200GB), except the system partition is the massive one... and when I actually try to shrink that down to my target of 60 and 240 GB, it’s basically impossible. 😳 It’ll only let me shave off an extra 15GB, and that’s it. 😕😕
How am I supposed to pull off this extra partitioning? I am seriously lost here. 🤷
