1. If there isn't anything vital on that USB drive, just try formatting it—it might be harboring some nasty little autorun virus lurking in the background.
2. Take a look at your startup programs—you can use msconfig or CCleaner—to see if there’s any weird or unrecognized junk trying to launch the second you boot up.
3. Also, check Task Manager; sometimes a rogue program hitches a ride on that drive, and usually, rundll32.exe is the prime suspect in these situations. If you spot rundll32.exe running in Task Manager, try killing the process and see if that changes the behavior.

Did the kids maybe install something sketchy right before this started acting up?

Chloe Garcia22 said:So I just renamed the Memory stick to X: and it still won't show up in Internet Explorer, but if I manually type X: into the address bar—boom—it opens.

Why does this damn Internet Explorer fail at even the most basic tasks without throwing a tantrum?

I feel bad even suggesting Total Commander, but honestly, this is just the kids' computer—they aren't exactly prepared for software acting up like this.

Either you messed something up or someone else did... Windows 7 works perfectly fine, so don't go blaming the OS when you should probably be looking at what happened on your end. If you're stuck with this issue and can't figure out the fix, just roll the system back to a restore point or do a clean reinstall of Windows—it'll take way less time than waiting around for forum replies.

Of course Windows 7 runs fine if you actually follow the manual. But yeah, obviously there’s a mountain of cracked games on here with all those weird multiplayer patches. At the end of the day, it’s just the kids' computer. 🙄

But honestly, what's the point of having a PC if you aren't gonna push it to the limit? This is just a minor headache, and there is zero chance I’m reinstalling everything from scratch just because of some cloud storage issues.
I’ll definitely try every trick in the book first, but if nothing works... well, I’ll probably wait until a massive, catastrophic system failure happens before I even consider a total wipe and reinstall. ☕

Anyway, thanks for the tips. Tomorrow I’m going in for round two against this stubborn USB port. 😁

Greetings, everyone. I am reaching out in the hopes that someone might be able to lend me a hand with a rather frustrating predicament. You see, I recently installed CCleaner on my Windows 7 machine to do a bit of routine tidying and optimization. Everything seemed perfectly fine until I decided to engage the Turbo mode within the application. It appears that this setting automatically recalibrated my entire system for maximum performance, but at a significant aesthetic cost. My Start menu and taskbar have been completely transformed into that old-school, "Classic" Windows look, which—to be quite honest—is driving me absolutely mad. I am desperate to restore my Aero themes, but when I navigate to Personalize, every single Aero option is grayed out and displayed in a dull black and white; I can't select a single one. Does anyone happen to know how to reverse this or fix these settings? 😠🤷 Much appreciated

Look, just turn off Turbo mode in CCleaner. If you were smart enough to turn it on in the first place, you should be smart enough to switch it back off. It’s not rocket science. 👎

I went ahead and applied those changes, yet I find myself staring at that same old Classic Start menu; it simply refuses to budge. While everything else seems to have returned to its normal operating state, why does this one stubborn element persist in staying exactly as it was?😕🤷

Take a look at this—could it possibly be the solution you're looking for? Increase Your Laptop’s Battery Life with CCleaner » CCleaner Blog about Windows 🙂

I've already tried every single one of those suggestions; I toggled off the Turbo mode, unchecked the option to switch to the classic Start menu, and eventually just wiped CCleaner entirely using Revo Uninstaller. But here is the kicker: the classic Start menu is still stuck there, haunting my desktop, and now I can't even figure out how to get my Windows 7 themes back to normal. Why won't they respond in the Personalize settings? Everything has just turned grayscale, leaving me with a completely colorless interface.😠😕

Just head over to the Control Panel, then System, and hit on Advanced system Settings. From there, you'll see everything under Performance Settings. What’s looking like the situation over there?

hey,
so, I downloaded this theme I really dig, but whenever I try to apply it, the taskbar color just stays the same. Do I need to copy some files somewhere or what? Any help would be appreciated.

thanks 🙂

It appears that Windows 7 is automatically installing all my chipset drivers during the initial setup process.
In Device Manager, everything looks perfectly clean—no yellow warning icons anywhere—except for the audio driver. But honestly, that’s hardly a surprise, right? It’s an external sound card, and Windows simply doesn't have the drivers for it out of the box.

What I'm wondering is this: even if the OS handles the basics, is there any actual benefit to manually installing the latest chipset drivers released after my specific version of Windows 7 was launched? Or am I just chasing ghosts?

The motherboard in question is an ASUS P7P55D DDR3.

The Intel(R) chipset software Installation Utility V9 is dated November 4, 2009. As far as goes, these are the latest drivers available for the chipset.

It’s honestly the easiest way—once you've picked out a theme, just hit "Open" instead of "Save." That basically "installs" the damn thing automatically.

I can't get this thing to work for the life of me. I've been reading somewhere about having to swap out some extensions or whatever, but if anyone actually knows what needs doing...
thanks

I have already tweaked every single option under performance, so theoretically, my visual effects should be hitting their absolute peak—yet, I am still stuck staring at this ancient classic Start menu and taskbar, while my wallpapers are straight out of Windows 7😕 Windows 7 help🤷

You don't need to change a thing. Honestly, just watch where you're grabbing those Windows 7 themes from in the first place.

On my setup, I just keep all the themes on my secondary drive, like an external SSD or whatever. Once I open one up, it just installs itself wherever it needs to go—then it stays put until I decide to delete it or just wipe the whole machine.

I usually just grab everything straight from the Microsoft website anyway.

Maybe the Desktop Window Manager is disabled. 🤔
Go to Start, open Services, and find Desktop Window Manager Session Manager. Right-click it, set the Startup Type: Automatic, and make sure the Service status shows as Started.

The other way to go is to hit Start and just fix the aero settings.

Alternatively, you could try going to Start and typing "fix aero."

Thanks so much, man; it turns out themes were disabled, but everything is working perfectly now.🤣🙏🙏🙏🙏
