As most of you probably know, WMDC is supposed to come pre-installed with Windows 7, while the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 version floating around online is apparently only meant for Windows Vista... anyway, I managed to pull a total idiot move: I UNINSTALLED my own Windows Mobile Device Center on Windows 7 because of some connection issues with my phone—long story short... I finally got the phone to sync with my PC, but I lost Windows Mobile Device Center in the process.

It looks like only the drivers are left, but the actual software is gone. SO HOW DO I GET IT BACK? I can't find the WMDC software for Windows 7 anywhere online; everything just points back to Vista. What am I supposed to do now? Just leave my computer and Windows without Windows Mobile Device Center? 🤷

If this isn't a valid download link, I have no idea what is. 🤷

I did, but as soon as I try to run the setup by double-clicking the icon, I get an immediate warning along the lines of: "This WMDC product is not compatible with your version of Windows..."

It’s not a valid link. I already checked... because the moment you click download, it just pushes you toward downloading WMDC 6.1, which is EXCLUSIVELY for Vista and definitely not for Windows 7, despite what the title claims.

Besides, the file is only 12 MB, whereas the WMDC on my Windows 7 setup was 25 MB.
But hey, it's not the end of the world that I don't have WMDC on my Windows machines, though... I might need it down the road. You never know...

@ Michael Mitchell69

I grabbed the 64-bit version of WMDC from that link yesterday (Sunday)—it's about 12.5 MB once you get through the OS validation step—and installed it on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit without a single hiccup. To be fair, I don't actually own a mobile device for the software to recognize, but the installation itself works just fine. 🤷

Maybe try running a System Restore to an earlier date? Usually, that kind of thing fixes my issues when they pop up.

Or you could just try running that Vista installer through compatibility mode. Just set it to Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and it should hopefully play nice without any drama. 🙂

Hey everyone! Quick question—how do I set the default icon size to medium across the board in Windows 7? I remember back in the Windows XP days, you could just go into "My Computer," set it to medium icons, hit "Apply to Folders" under tools, and boom—every single folder you opened would follow suit. Is there an easy way to do that here?

People just won't listen... this is the error I get every time I try to install this version:

P.S. Don't bother suggesting System Restore. I used Disk Cleanup shortly after to clear out some junk and free up space on my C: drive, managed to claw back about 18GB.🙂

Are you absolutely certain you're running the x64 version of Windows? Here is the link for the x86 version; go ahead and try that instead 😉

It’s working now. Thanks. 👍 I know this might sound like a silly question, but what’s actually the difference between all these versions? 😁 I picked up this PC last year, and it came bundled with Windows 7. Honestly, I’m a huge fan of Windows 7. 😁 In my opinion, there just aren't any that are actually level. 🙂

Anyway... thanks.

Hey there!
I've been thinking about installing Windows 7—a buddy of mine is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit... at first, I was leaning toward the 64-bit version since everyone says it's superior, but he's actually pushing me toward the 32-bit route because he thinks certain games won't run on 64-bit systems. Is that actually a thing? How does that work—is there a workaround or what? Also, does anyone happen to know which specific games might have issues on those 64-bit versions of Windows?

So, I checked Action Center and it's flagging me, saying that having two or more anti-spyware programs running could slow down my PC. I went ahead and installed the AVG free edition, so now the question is: do I actually need to disable Windows Defender? And if so, how exactly am I supposed to turn it off?!!!!!!???????

Thanks in advance to everyone!!!!!!😉

Hey there,

People over here are constantly talking trash about pirated software—whether it's downloading different versions of Windows, cracking games, or even straight-up dealing sketchy "cracks,"...

But then, for god's sake, you keep deleting my posts regularly and systematically just because I drop a sentence or two insulting this damn system...

I’m seriously asking for an explanation.

Thanks in advance,

Best,

Hey there! I'm back. When I picked up this PC, it came with Windows 7 Ultimate pre-installed—fingers crossed it’s the real deal...

The OS is currently set to German. Is there any way to switch the language directly within Windows without having to wipe the whole system and start from scratch?

my Windows is in German, any way to switch languages without wiping the whole system and starting over? maybe just through Windows settings..

if you've got a sticker on the case that looks like this:

then you're good, it's original 🙂

If you actually have the original permissions, you should be able to just download the English language pack. Take a look. Here.
