He did Taekwondo for a few years, though he hasn't stepped foot in a dojang in two years—but yeah, the guy can definitely pull his leg up to his head.

It’s a pretty basic question, I know, but I’m just wondering what the fallout looks like, roughly speaking.

Thanks for understanding.

It doesn’t have to cost him anything. But then again, he could die. Theoretically speaking.

There are often those scenarios where it’s either "worst case—you're fine" or "worst case—you have a month left to live."

Statistically speaking, you probably won't die.
Maybe an earthquake, a door hitting him, or needing a few stitches (depends on what's on his foot, I suppose...)
But then again, maybe there's just some underlying issue that causes him to drop dead on the spot. Or perhaps a bad landing leads to a broken neck—death or paralysis.

The range of potential injuries is, as you can see, quite vast...

What’s actually the deal with the difference between ITF and WTF Taekwondo? I remember back when I was training there definitely felt like a distinction, but honestly, my brain just wiped the specifics 🤷 😁

Hey, does anyone know where I can grab tickets for the Budo Gala show over at the Dražen Petrović Community Center on October 27th? Thanks!

ITF uses less protective gear and stays closer to the traditional roots, whereas WTF is geared more toward Olympic competition standards.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So. I’ve been having this little back-and-forth with myself lately, and I think I finally landed on a conclusion. I want to pick up some kind of sport or martial art, but here’s the catch: I’m looking at this strictly through the lens of self-defense. You know, something that actually works when things go south—fast, brutal, and efficient enough to handle one guy or a whole group of them. I’m not really interested in all that deep, flowery philosophy stuff. Just give me the moves that work. And honestly? It would be a nice bonus if the training was a total grind physically. I need something that’s going to tear me apart a bit just to build up the body and keep my health in check.
Alright, you experts out there, got any suggestions that fit the bill? 🙂 Thanks a bunch!

You could look into Krav Maga right here in town... mostly... But listen, any skill bound by strict rules isn't nearly as effective as something designed for a real street fight... like Krav Maga or maybe Jeet Kune Do. There is a massive difference between what happens inside a ring and what happens outside of it. When you make your choice, keep that distinction in mind...

Thanks for the input. Any idea where I can actually find some Krav Maga training in the metro area?

I suppose I agree with Bruce.
If you're looking for something that will quickly prepare you for common street encounters, I might suggest Krav Maga. You could check out www.kravmaga.com or maybe just do a quick Google search; I'm not entirely sure. If I recall correctly, someone runs a school over by the convention center.

Pick up some 3-meter bandages and try to find the semi-elastic ones if you can.
(The 5-meter ones are what most people use for boxing, mostly.)
Just remember, those gloves aren't the same thing as boxing gloves...

From what I know through reliable channels, the guy at the State Fair isn't actually qualified to be an instructor... The only person who can hand out instructor certifications is Eyal Yanilov over in Israel.
And I'm certain the fellow at the State Fair doesn't have that credential...

Eyal Yanilov? The *only* one? 🙂 😂

Israeli Krav Maga Association - Haim Gidon

International Krav Maga Federation - Eyal Yailov

BruceLee87, I think your intention was good, but you missed the mark here...

I think you might be slightly mistaken.

Look, Eyal Yanilov is the head instructor...
My bad, I misspoke... I don't actually know the specifics regarding who officially issues the certification, but I do know that if you want that diploma, you have to go all the way to Israel...
As for who specifically signs off on it, I haven't a clue...
But that doesn't change the reality that the guy at the convention center isn't authorized... he just isn't... 😉

Give me a break... 🙄 Eyal Yanilov is the big boss of the International Krav Maga Federation. And honestly? Their KM federation is total garbage.

The instructors at the trade show are certified by the head trainer from Krav Maga Netherlands—who’s been an official instructor for the Israeli Krav Maga Association for 15 years and is easily one of the top KM pros in Europe. We're talking about a guy with two decades under his belt who actually trains government officials... real deal stuff. Plus, they collaborate with Itay Gil—literally one of the world's leading KM experts, ex-Yamam, and ex-Mossad. You clearly have no clue. 😉

Armen's with the International Krav Maga Federation—basically runs the show for Sweden, Canada, and the States for them. I think his crew is opening a club in Chicago right about now... if I remember correctly. The Velesajam crowd? That's a totally different story.
