Maria Fisher46 said:Why were the tests ordered?

Back in November 2015—it feels like ages ago!—he was diagnosed with Hashimoto, which is why he had his blood work done. At that time, his CBC looked like this:

erythrocyte 5.67
Hgb 155
htc 0.461
MCV 81.3
MCH 27.3
MCHC 336
RDW 12.8
Platelets 251
MPV 11.7
Fe 11

We actually went back and repeated everything last week—though we skipped the local community health center this time and used a private lab instead—and honestly, all the results came back perfectly normal this time around:

erythrocyte 5.52
Hgb 147
htc 0.451
MCV 84
MCH 28.2
MCHC 326
RDW 13.5
Platelets 202
MPV 7.3
Fe 17
TIBC 61 (49-72)
UIBC 44 (25-54)
ferritin 52.5 (20-250)

Now, I have to wonder—was he even fasting properly? He had a pancake about seven hours before the draw, so I’m really not sure if these numbers are truly representative... and then there was that previous time when his iron was down at 9; he had hit the gym for a heavy bodybuilding session the night before, so who knows if that physical exertion played a part in the dip!
His doctor is sending him off for an occult blood test now.😢

Just got back from my OBGYN appointment for some swabs.
Most of the results have come back negative so far, except for this one:

test sample: cervical swab - aerobic and microbiological culture +neisseria gonorhoeae

microbiological test results
microscopic findings: PMNL+ (significant amount), gram-positive rods

Saprophytic bacteria

Candida nonalbicans
in very small amounts

Thanks in advance for any quick insight (I'm feeling pretty anxious here)...

Does anyone know what this actually means?

Can someone help me make sense of these lab results? I tried digging through some stuff online, but honestly, I’m not having much luck. A few of these values are flagged as out of range, while the rest seem fine enough.

So, a few days ago I started dealing with some weird sensations I’ve honestly never felt before—this sharp, stabbing pain right in my kidney area, but it kind of radiates over to my left side just under the ribs, pretty much where my gallbladder would be. It hits me whenever I sneeze, cough, or even if I’m just lying on my right side, or if I make any sudden movements or bend over. It was pretty intense for maybe 3 or 4 days, but today feels a lot better and the pain is finally starting to die down.

I swung by my local community health center and asked my doctor for some blood work and an abdominal ultrasound because I’m low-key convinced it might be gallstones or something going on with my kidneys.
My blood work results just came back today with these numbers:

AST 42 (ref. 11-38), so that's slightly elevated
ALT 65 (ref. 12-48), also high
GGT 123 (ref. 11-55), which is a pretty significant jump
LDL 3.20 (ref. less than 3)

Urinalysis:

Squamous epithelial cells 3 (ref. 0-1)

I still need to schedule the ultrasound, but I’ll probably try to get it done sometime next week if I can actually snag an appointment slot.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions you guys have.

I recently went in for *Listeria monocytogenes* serology testing, given my history of recurrent miscarriages. I’m feeling a bit lost on how to interpret these results... if anyone here has dealt with this before, please reach out. I honestly have no idea what this means. Here is what the lab report shows: *Listeria monocytogenes* IlgA1/2 a -negative...
Just got some results back on the listeria monocytogenes IgA... looks like it came back at 4, negative. Not exactly what I was hoping to see, given how I've been feeling lately, but I suppose we take it one step at a time...
Just got my latest lab results back... listeria monocytogenes IgM came in at 1/2a-negative. It’s one more thing to check off the list, I suppose, though it doesn't exactly make the rest of this feel any less exhausting...
Just got my results back for the listeria monocytogenes IgM... it’s sitting at 4, which is negative. So, I guess I can breathe a little easier for now... though knowing my luck, there's always something else lurking around the corner...
Listeria monocytogenes IgG 1/2 a - positive 1:100...
Listeria monocytogenes IgG 4 b - weakly positive at 1:100...
Thanks.

Can someone help me make sense of these blood results?
I'm a 35-year-old woman dealing with weakness, fatigue, and maybe a UTI (can't provide a urine sample right now because I'm on my period).

Everything looks normal except for:

Lymphocytes 3.5×10^9 g/l
White blood cell count is 8.4
Segment neutrophils 49.3 rel %
Lymphocytes 41.3 rel %
Monocytes 7.0 rel %

CRP 0.2

It seems like only my lymphocytes are high; the limit is 3.35 x 10^9.

How much of a concern is this, I guess?

Thanks

Hey everyone, I was wondering if someone could take a look at my labs? I'll just list the ones that are outside the normal range:

Female, 25 years old, PCOS

Androstenedione 15.36 (ref. 2.13-10.47)
DHEAS 9.87 (ref. 1.8-7.7)
LH 18.48 (ref. 2.4-13)
Leukocyte esterase pos. (ref. neg)
WBC 5-10 (ref. 0-2)
Squamous epithelial cells 5-10 (ref. 0-1)

My OBGYN ordered these tests, so I'm just curious if these results seem okay or if I should probably get more done before my follow-up appointment? I don't see her for almost a month.

Thanks in advance🙂

Molly, can someone please make sense of this for me? I went in for blood work this week, and honestly, everything looks fine except my eosinophil count is sitting at 7.4% (range is 0.0-7.0) and my lymphocytes are pretty high at 44.4% (range is 20.0-46.0). How bad is "high" here? Especially since I haven't been sick or dealing with any kind of inflammation lately? To make things more interesting, back in October last year, my eosinophils were also up (7.5) and lymphocytes were at 46.2. They were elevated back in 2014, too. Is this actually dangerous or am I just overthinking it?

I also had my thyroid levels checked; TSH is hovering right on the edge at 4.80 (0.35-4.94), though FT4 and FT3 look solid. My doctor wants me to go back and retest in a month...
Male, 29 years old.

Thanks in advance!

Totally forgot to mention—my segment neutrophils are low, sitting at 37.5% (normal is 44.0-72.0). Honestly, this isn't even new; I had the exact same thing going on back in 2014 and 2015.
segment neutrophils 37.5% (44.0-72.0)
eosinophil 7.4% (0.0-7.0)
lymphocyte 44.4% (20.0-46.0)
Was the same back in 2014 and 2015, too.

It’s been quiet here for a while. My apologies for the delay; keeping up with every single question on this thread is becoming a bit of a challenge with my current daily workload.
hm00 Asks:
Back in November 2015, he was diagnosed with Hashimoto, which prompted a round of blood work. At the time, the labs looked like this:

RBC count: 5.67
Hgb 15.5
AT&T 0.461
MCV 81.3
MCH: 27.3
MCHC: 336.
RDW 12.8.
Platelets: 251
MPV at 11.7.
Ferritin: 11.

We redid the labs last week. This time we went private to a different lab instead of using the local community health center like we did before. Everything came back normal this time around:

RBC count: 5.52
Hgb 14.7
AT&T 0.451
MCV 84.
MCH: 28.2
MCHC 326.
RDW: 13.5
Platelets: 202
MPV 7.3
Iron levels at 17. Low.
TIBC: 61 (Range: 49–72)
UIBC: 44 (Ref: 25-54)
Ferritin: 52.5 (Ref range: 20-250)

He ate a pancake about seven hours before the blood draw, so I’m questioning if those results are even worth looking at. Back when his iron was sitting at 9, he had hit the gym for a heavy lifting session the night before the test. I wonder if that could have skewed the numbers.
His doctor is sending him in for an occult blood test. 😢

Dietary intake likely played a role in the iron levels, though it wouldn't have touched the other parameters. The follow-up results look normal, even if the ferritin level is still hovering near the lower limit. There’s no anemia here—that much is certain. Whether the iron stores are truly optimal is harder to pin down. Based on that MCV value, Beck Jr. and his colleagues suggest a ferritin above 100 would be a definitive indicator that no deficiency exists (see *The Iron Screen*, Human Pathology 1981;12:123-126).
Maria Kern71 said:Hi. Had bloodwork done yesterday. I dealt with mononucleosis three months ago and felt like I was fully recovered by the third month. However, for the last four weeks, I’ve been dealing with constant fatigue and brain fog. Yesterday, I ran a fever, and my throat is starting to act up again. Is it possible for this to have come back?
Elevated levels:
Lymphocytes at 59.0 (normal range: 20-46).

Lowered levels:
MCV at 80.6. Reference range starts at 83.0. Slightly low.
MCH at 25.6. Normal range starts at 27.4. It’s low.
MCHC 317 (Range: 320-345). Slightly under the mark.
Segment neutrophils at 1.26 (normal range: 2.06–6.49).
Segmented neutrophils at 27.9%. Normal range is 44–72%.
Alanine aminotransferase 9 (10-36)

Based solely on the lab results you provided, there isn't enough information to answer that question. It’s possible, sure, but you’d need definitive proof—something like serology or a PCR test—to actually confirm it.
dessylessy Asks:
I went to my OB-GYN for some swabs.
The results that have come in so far are all negative, except for this one:

Lab results: Cervical swab—aerobic bacterial and microbiological culture, positive for Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Microbiology lab results.
Microscopic findings: abundant PMNs and Gram-positive bacilli.

Saprophytic bacteria. They live off the dead stuff. Decomposers.

Non-albicans Candida. It’s a different beast entirely. Unlike the standard strain, these varieties tend to be more stubborn and less predictable when you're trying to manage them. It isn't just about one single culprit; it's a whole spectrum of opportunistic players.
In very limited numbers.

Any quick insights would be appreciated (I'm feeling a bit anxious about this)...

Anyone know what this means?

An elevated PMNL count can be a sign of inflammation. It doesn't necessarily mean there’s an active infection; it could be a lingering trace from a recent one—in which case, a follow-up swab in a month should show a decrease—or it could be a precursor to something coming on, where a new test would show an increase. Everything else looks normal. Honestly, it’s difficult to interpret these results without knowing the clinical reasoning behind why the swabs were taken in the first place. We also need to determine if there's any indication to test specifically for mycoplasma, ureaplasma, or chlamydia.

Bradley Barrett5 said:Can someone help me make sense of these lab results? I tried digging through the internet myself, but I'm not having much luck. Most values look fine, but a few are sitting outside the normal range.

Lymphocyte count at 51.5. Reference range is 20-46.
Clinical Biochemistry.
ALT 43 (range 10-36).
CK 195 (0-153)

It’s impossible to make sense of these results without knowing what prompted the labs in the first place. You have an elevated lymphocyte count, which often shows up during a viral infection, alongside some mild inflammation, muscle damage, and a liver lesion. While this could all fit the profile of a standard virus, there are other possibilities on the table. Without the clinical context, interpreting these findings is just guesswork.

Listeria serology is slippery territory—ambiguous and controversial. In short, these tests aren't reliable for definitive diagnosis. They suggest there's no active infection, and while a weakly positive IgG could indicate an old contact, you can't rule out a false positive either. Generally speaking, this shouldn't impact any future pregnancies.

The hormone profile aligns with a PCOS diagnosis, though the androstenedione level is quite elevated. It might be worth checking other adrenal hormones and perhaps considering imaging, like an ultrasound, to start with. What other hormones or tests have been done?

Regarding the urine sample, there is a significant amount of squamous epithelium. If you aren't experiencing any symptoms, it was likely just a contaminated sample from improper collection.

You can't interpret a percentage alone without knowing the absolute count. A lymphocyte percentage of 44.4% isn't particularly high.

Maria Fisher46 said:So, from what I can gather, you’re getting checked out because they suspect polycythemia? Honestly, without more data or seeing your actual lab results, it's pretty much impossible to give you a real answer.

My ERC came back at 5.60 to 5.77... the ref interval is 4.34 - 5.70. Just barely over!
So my HGB went from 162 up to 173... looking at the lab range, it says 138 to 175. Still totally within the lines! 🙌
So, I just got my results back... MCV is sitting at 84. Looking at the lab report, the normal range is listed as 83 to 97.2. Seems like I'm right on the edge! Just keeping an eye on it.
MCH came back at 29 to 30... the lab range says 27.4 to 33.9. Looks like I'm right in the sweet spot! Everything seems totally normal on that front.
MCHC is sitting between 347 and 352... whereas the normal range is usually 320 to 345.
RDW is sitting at 12.5... totally normal since the range is 9 - 15. All good!
TRC from 252 up to 287... man, that 158 - 424 range is wild.
MPV at 7.1... the range says 6.8 to 10.4. Still totally within the normal zone! 🥂

RTC 27 ........................................5.0 - 21,6
SE 3 ....................................... 2 - 13

Urea at 3.8... compared to the range of 2.8 to 8.3. Just checking the numbers!
Urate 342 ...................................182 - 403
Iron at 16... ugh. The lab range says 11 - 32, so I guess I'm technically "fine," but man, that feels low. Just sitting there in the single digits territory.
TIBC 70.5 .................................. 49 - 72
UIBC came back at 54.3... my lab range says 25 - 54. Just barely over the line! lol. Still feels pretty normal though, right?

pH 7.367... right in the sweet spot between 7.350 and 7.450! 🙌✨
So, I was looking over my latest blood work results, and my pCO2 came back at 43.50 kPa. Looking at the lab's reference range—which is 35.34 to 48.12—it looks like I’m sitting pretty right in the middle of the pack! Everything seems totally normal on that front. Just one of those little updates while I'm tracking everything.
TCO2 is sitting at 25.8... looking pretty good since the normal range is like 22 to 29!
So, I was checking out my latest labs, and my HCO3 (st) came back at 24.4... which is just a hair over the standard range of 18 - 23. Honestly? Not even sweating it. It’s basically right there on the line! Everything else seems totally chill. Just one of those tiny little bumps in the road, nothing to lose sleep over. Keeping it breezy!
BE (ecf) 1.1 (0.9)... looks like we're sitting at a solid 2 - 3 (2 - 3) right now.
My pO2 came back at 113.8... and the lab range says 54.9 - 79.7. Yikes! 😅
O2 levels at 15.1... compared to the normal range of 7.3 - 10.6. Wow!
O2 sat is at 98%... totally within that 94 - 98 range! 🙌

Serum ferritin came back at 52.8... normal range is 30 - 233. Still looking good!

Is there any chance that my police report is already showing up in the system?

Erythropoietin - 10 IU/L

So, I just got my ultrasound back... and ugh, the spleen is looking a little chunky at 12.5cm. Plus, they found some pleural effusion too. Not exactly the news I was hoping for!

I'll try to keep this short and sweet:

Ugh, I’ve been dealing with this constant fatigue and such intense brain fog lately... it feels like my head is just totally stuffed up or clouded over. Plus, my arm has been feeling super weak. Anyone else going through this?

Ugh, so after I went a bit too hard at the gym, I’ve got this weird "burning" sensation going on in my chest and just... everywhere? Like, honestly, every single muscle feels inflamed or something. I don't even know how to explain it properly, it's just such a strange feeling!

So, I used to deal with this constant pressure and aching in my neck and back... honestly, it’s totally possible it all stems from that wipeout I had on my bike last summer. I just got my results back, though, and here’s the breakdown: I've got some mild degenerative changes from C3 down to C7, plus my physiological lordosis is flattened out. Also, apparently there are some Schmorl's nodes from T6 to T9.

So, they were running all kinds of tests on me late last year when I was stuck in the hospital dealing with high blood pressure. It was getting pretty intense—we're talking numbers jumping from 150/100 all the way up to 200/130. Just wild. And I should probably mention that my readings on the left arm always seem to run about 10 to 15 points lower than the right. Just one of those things, I guess!
So I just did my stress test, and man, those numbers were wild! My resting heart rate was sitting right at 130 before I even started pushing, and then once things really kicked into gear? It shot straight up to 180. Just thought I'd share!

So, my blood pressure’s been looking pretty solid lately even without the meds—like, the last three months have been chill. I've seen it dip down to 105/80, and hit a peak of maybe 150/90, but honestly, most of the time it stays right around that 125-130 over 75-85 sweet spot. If I just had that baby-level energy again, I'd be absolutely crushing it at the gym!

Sometimes my heart rate just decides to spike out of nowhere, hitting like 100 or even 120 bpm, but honestly, most of the time it stays chill around the 70-80 mark.

The bottom line? Since late last summer, I’ve been totally out of commission—both physically and mentally. Just completely wiped out.

It’s all just super weird to me, honestly. Like, for the last few years, I’ve been totally dialed in with my lifestyle—running, cycling, swimming, all that good stuff. And it’s not even like I was having issues before; I actually had enough energy for like ten people at once. Seriously, I felt bulletproof.

I have absolutely no clue what the deal is here... like, seriously, I'm totally lost. Do you think I've been overdoing it on the Mono? My EBV IgG came back at 750 and my EBNA IgG is at 132... any idea what that means?

Current status: honestly, like I mentioned before, just totally wiped out... and then every once in a while this weakness hits me out of nowhere. My blood pressure feels all wonky, too—like I’m about to just pass out or black out. That part? Definitely the worst part of this whole mess.

So, I'm constantly hitting this weird little borderline temperature around 99°F, but honestly, it’s not even happening all the time. Just kind of hits me out of nowhere sometimes.

If you guys need me to dive deeper into the timeline of everything that’s gone down over the last year, or if you want to see any of my test results, just hit me up in a DM. I didn't wanna hog the whole page here lol

Cheers!
