Fine. Open the entire case—both side panels included.
Take a good look at the CPU heatsink. Vacuum it out, and make sure you thoroughly clean the fan on it too!
Check if the heatsink is even seated correctly.
In Everest, it will show you the maximum MHz capacity for the processor (likely 3000 MHz).
Set the FSB to 140-145.
If done right, your temperature should peak at around 50°C.

To be honest, I have my doubts about how stable things will actually be if we're pushing it from 2GHz all the way up to 2.8GHz...
#2584 ·
My CPU temperature is hovering around 50 degrees right now, and I find myself wondering where on earth one is even supposed to source that FSB nowadays.

I wouldn't push it if you're already hitting 50... besides, you usually adjust the FSB in the BIOS.

So, if I actually want to attempt overclocking this thing, am I going to be forced to buy an entirely new cooling system? 😛

🙂And one might wonder, if someone were to purchase a new refrigerator, how much could they actually expect to pay for it?

Nobody actually knows for sure. You should check what your FSB is currently running; there's no point in buying an expensive cooler if your FSB is already sitting at +20.
The real question is how much of a performance boost you'll actually see from overclocking. In my opinion, it just isn't worth the investment.

I doubt you could get much overclocking out of it, Celerons aren't really built for that kind of thing...
#2593 ·
Just a bit of advice: let that Celeron go. It really isn't built for any kind of overclocking.

You know, I am planning on picking up a new rig quite soon. Since this will be my first foray into overclocking, I think I'll hold off on experimenting with it just yet; I have no desire to brick a brand-new machine on my first attempt. 😁

Too many people seem to think that way. The reality is that it’s much harder to find anything decent to overclock on modern hardware. Manufacturers are now designing components specifically to handle overclocking, which means they come packed with extra protections—so you aren't nearly as likely to fry your system as you might have been in the past. With older components, you just didn't have nearly as many options or fine-tuned settings available for pushing the limits.

Given the current state of this hardware, there isn't much room for meaningful overclocking, so I won't even bother attempting it.🤷

Jose Lee14 said:but there is clearly nothing much I can overclock here, so I won't even bother trying.🤷
You have protection!
Both thermal limits and a clock ceiling up to 3000 MHz.
I pushed my old Celeron 1800 (18x multiplier) up to 160MHz * 18 = 2880 MHz using just the stock cooler...
Here is the temperature screenshot:

TMPIN0 is your CPU.
TMPIN1 is your motherboard.
TMPIN2 is some kind of AUX sensor?!? 😕

You seem to have lucked out with a much more efficient cooler; my CPU idle temperatures are hovering around 50 degrees. 🤷

I'm using the stock cooler! (It has the Intel logo on it)
Get serious about that cooler. It likely isn't seated properly against the processor. You should probably apply some fresh thermal paste—it’s cheap enough.
It's honestly a waste to struggle with such a sluggish CPU.
Before I actually opened the case to clean out the heatsink, my temperatures were hitting 60-70°C, and the CPU fan was screaming at 5200 RPM! 😲
And that was just at the factory clock speed! (1800 MHz)

My CPU cooler is spinning at 2755 RPM—I haven't the slightest clue if that's a reasonable figure, as I'm quite out of my depth here. 🤷
