Honestly, it might be better not to mess around with that stuff—you just never know. You could get lucky a hundred times, but it’s that 101st time that really gets you... :\

Yeah, you never really know.
The side effects clearly state that mixing alcohol with Effexor bumps up the suicide risk... which hits home because even just a single shot of Bailey makes me feel incredibly depressed.😢
Back when I was on Prozac, I’d have two or three vodka-juices, or maybe a rum and coke, and I felt totally fine. Honestly, I was actually happy—everything was hilarious, just pure bliss!😂
So, basically, Prozac worked fine with alcohol, but Effexor works without it.🤣

I was on Lexapro and then switched to Lexapro for four weeks. Not sure which one actually messed me up more. I had terrible restlessness, and now I'm off everything—just feeling miserable. My psychiatrist just prescribed Wellbutrin today. Please, let me know if anyone has tried it. Maybe it was mentioned here before, but I can't be bothered scrolling back through all those pages right now.

I ended up on Wellbutrin for about two weeks, though I couldn't really stomach it any longer than that. I felt like I was yawning constantly, my jaw started aching, and my hands wouldn't stop shaking. It creates this sort of restless energy where you feel like you absolutely have to be doing something; you just can't find any peace. At least, that was my experience, anyway.
In the end, I went back to my reliable Effexor.🙂

So, you actually did stop the Lexapro after all; I was under the impression it was finally doing the trick for you since you seemed to be turning a corner for a while... I ended up quitting it myself after only twenty days, and now I'm relying solely on Xanax, much like you are. To be perfectly honest, I have no idea what Wellbutrin is or how it actually functions within the system. For me, Prozac was quite effective—so much so that I’ve considered starting it up again.

Right now I just have the prescriptions. Still weighing my options because after Lexapro and Cipralex, I'm terrified of everything. My doctor gave me two scripts, one for Wellbutrin and one for Cipralex. She mentioned she’d prefer if I went with the Wellbutrin. It's all a mess. Honestly, I've started seeing a bioenergy healer. He's a local guy and he's doing it for free. Can't hurt. We'll see. I'm also starting psychotherapy. Mostly, I'm just scared I'll get so sick I won't be able to work and will lose my job.

I am reaching out specifically to those of you who deal with chronic insomnia, because frankly, I can’t take this anymore. Up until now, I’ve been scraping by using a combination of 0.25 mg Misar and 5 mg Sanval, but they just doubled the dosage for both, and it hasn't helped much. To try and regulate my sleep, I’m taking Faverin alongside Elicea, though I suppose that might be irrelevant. What I really want to know is: what are the strongest hypnotics and sedatives out there? I mean the kind of stuff that could practically knock out a horse. I’m looking for real experiences here, because my current regimen feels incredibly weak; I process these meds so fast that I end up needing three or four Sanval doses a day, plus about 5 mg of Misar. I once heard about Normabel at 10 mg, and apparently, if you take two of those, you sleep like a baby. Does anyone have a recommendation on what I should ask for? I realize my doctor probably won't approve it, but I honestly cannot endure this—it's 3:30 in the morning and even after 6 Misar, I still can't fall asleep. Please, tell me which heavy-duty sedatives you use—the kind so potent you almost have to fight them. I'm not very familiar with all the options.
thanks

Real talk.
At this point, even tossing back 3 or 4 Sanval pills along with 4 Xanax doesn't do squat for me (it’s basically like taking nothing). I tried adding a 10 mg Normabel to the mix; sure, I finally knocked out, but here I am wide awake at 4:30 in the morning...

I gave Ambien a shot too, but I need two of those just to feel anything, and even then, I'm waking up way too early.

Then there was the Cerson—I took two of those and actually slept through the night, so I’ll probably have to ask my psychiatrist if I can stick with that or if there's something even heavier out there.

Basically, I’m drugging myself like a total maniac just to get some shut-eye, because doing this "naturally" is a complete joke.
Prozac was absolutely useless for me—literally felt like swallowing a Tic Tac. Zero effect.

So now I'm just sitting here having taken some Xanax SR, 2 or 3 Sanval, 3 or 4 Xanax, and a Normabel, just waiting for my appointment with the psychiatrist.

Man, I hear you. I've been in the same boat. There were times I practically cleared out an entire box of Valium, it was ridiculous.

Back when I was living and working on the coast, all I needed was 2 Sanval and 2 Xanax to feel like a brand new person. But ever since I moved to this depressing, soul-crushing part of the Midwest, sleep has been non-existent.

I totally feel for you. If anyone heads out to pick up a new prescription before I do, let me know...

For sleep, try an anticonvulsant—Tegretol actually saved my life back in the day—or maybe an antipsychotic like Seroquel. Honestly, most standard sleeping pills feel like little pieces of candy to my brain.

When I’m tossing and turning, taking 50-75mg of Prazina usually does the trick to get me to sleep.🙂
It honestly just knocks me right out.

Edit: I should probably mention that almost nothing else worked for my insomnia. I’ve tried just about everything on the market and it was all a total bust. The one time I tried Sanval, I ended up having these really weird hallucinations—it was like I’d jump from my bed onto some bouncy castle, or see spiders and bugs crawling all over the ceiling and stuff. It was pretty intense. :\

I’m sorry you’re going through such a hard time. I went through a similar stretch a while back where sleep was just... impossible, no matter what I did. I’ve tried most of the same medications you mentioned, and if I had to say, Ambien was the best for me.👍
It always manages to knock me out. But if even that doesn't work for you, well... I remember this old antipsychotic called Prazina, I think it comes in a red 100mg pill. If you try that, I’d bet anything you’ll sleep like a baby, without fail.😉

Like I was saying, I usually stick to about 50mg, which is two of the yellow ones. Maybe try starting with a lower dose first; if that doesn't work, then move up to the higher amount.🙂
Anyway, that's my take on Prazina.

Please, stop taking so much Ambien, especially for sleep; those things aren't actually designed to put you to sleep, and consuming them in such high quantities is doing real damage to your system. Try bumping the Lunesta to 10 mg, and perhaps, if you coordinate with your psychiatrist, they might consider prescribing something like Mariden—for me, personally, that stuff hits like a freight train. Some people swear by Seroquel, though others find it leaves them feeling completely drained. Of course, you absolutely must consult with your doctor before making any changes to your medication...

As for me, Prazosin was basically a total wash for sleep. I took three red ones—300 mg altogether—and absolutely nothing happened. I guess it works for some people, though.

Thank you all for the input. Now, looking at everything we've discussed, which of these would be considered the most potent hypnotics that could actually be paired with a sedative? I find that the sedatives relax me naturally, and then if I hit a hypnotic on top of that, I might not even wake up... I am planning on asking for Normabex 10mg because, from what I understand, it’s the strongest sedative out there. As far as hypnotics go, I only know about Sanval. Also, I didn't quite grasp the part about antipsychotics—what's the deal with those? Do they also regulate sleep patterns?
Furthermore, I don't understand why my doctor keeps pushing antidepressants on me when my primary struggle is insomnia. 🤷 I realize they are supposed to regulate neurohormones, but I've been taking them for quite some time now and I haven't seen any progress whatsoever... I wonder, would my primary care physician be allowed to prescribe that Normabex while I wait to see a specialist? The waiting lists are massive, and these damn holidays aren't helping the delay.

Please, suggest some combinations I should ask for (and don't worry, I can clearly hold my own against anyone). It feels like they are just experimenting on us, so if something isn't working, they just swap it out.🙄

In my experience with Sanval, I've had minor hallucinations—mostly fun stuff, nothing too serious.🤷 I really like that pill; I just wish I could get at least two boxes of the 10mg version...

I was actually prescribed mine to help with my sleep and to dial down that daytime anxiety--it really made a difference for me.

I honestly have no idea how to handle this when asking for stronger medication. I’m terrified they might just refuse me outright. I mean, are they actually obligated to provide what I need, or should I perhaps try to exaggerate my symptoms just to get a prescription? When I talked to my doctor about Misar, I told them I struggle with anxiety throughout the day, even though I really only take it to get some sleep at night. It feels like they aren't exactly thrilled about prescribing things to me because I'm young, yet on the other hand, isn't it their literal job to help me? Any advice?😢

How old are you?

I’ve never really understood that whole "you're too young" argument. Honestly, what does age have to do with anything? Mental health doesn't check your ID before it hits you. I remember being on Haldol when I was only 15, and it felt like every doctor I saw suddenly had something to say about it—things like, "Why would you need that? You're so young, it's not good for you," or "You're far too young for this." It was like all these doctors decided at once that my age should dictate my treatment.

I'm 21, and honestly, it seems to me like they always just take the path of least resistance. Whether it's because certain meds are too expensive or some other nonsense, I don't know. One doctor actually tried to push some herbal supplement on me, while another told me not to take pills because by the time I'm 50, I won't be able to sleep even if someone hit me over the head with a hammer—and I quote! As if things would somehow be better then. Seriously, who is the crazy one here?

I did risset three times a day—once in the morning, afternoon, and night.

I was taking Xanax at 2, 2, and 1 mg along with Paxil at 1, 0, and 0 mg.🙂

Anyway, Paxil is an antidepressant, but honestly, it works pretty well for sleep too.
