Robert Collins2 said:It’s pretty straightforward, really. I couldn't check my blind spots while driving, I couldn't even pull away from a stoplight without stalling the car, things were constantly slipping right out of my hands, and I’d completely blank on basic words and definitions—and look, I’m an English professor, if that doesn't tell you how messed up it was. That’s the thing about this disease; it’s beautiful in its cruelty, hitting you exactly where it hurts most, tearing down everything you are until you're just a shell of a person, staring down the barrel of suicide...

Some people are never going to get it, but let me tell you, I was living in a total nightmare. I was three minutes away from a stroke or just flat-out dying. And yeah, I was on psych meds. I still am. They’re the reason I stayed afloat long enough to start therapy and actually face myself. I’m not popping massive, old-school doses anymore; I’m on much lower amounts now, strictly under my doctor's supervision. I don't just toss them back blindly, and I never will. But those medications? For me, and for so many others, they were a literal lifeline. They saved my life.

So don't bother coming at me with your "research" or your links trying to prove me wrong. It's not happening. Period. End of story. ☕

Sorry, I was just asking. I wasn't trying to convince anyone of anything. You went to therapy alongside medication, which is a complete approach to treatment. Some people seem to think mental health issues can only be treated by drugging someone up with meds that have questionable side effects. I agree there are pharmaceutical lobbies, that not all side effects are caught, and that greed plays a role in the industry—there's definitely a "Big Pharma" machine at work. But no one can claim someone died solely because of a pill, since every psychiatric drug comes with a warning to stop use if suicidal thoughts occur.

As for missing blind spots and stalling your car? That’s just because you're a woman, not because of the illness. (Just kidding!)

Kurosawa, look, I wasn't even aiming at you. We’re good. Honestly, you asked that in such a civil way, and your posts are actually super well-argued and chill. It's just that I'm a little high right now, so I'm probably acting a bit wild. 😛

Nessada, look, I’m all for a good conspiracy theory, but this stuff about psychopharmacologists is reaching the level of claiming they replaced Marshall with a body double. Personally, I don't care what you think about depression or medication; there will always be people who view depression and anxiety as some sort of fragile emotional crisis—not to mention the total snowflakes out there. The biggest issue with your post is that plenty of people read threads like this looking for advice, help, or some comfort, and this kind of rhetoric might just completely discourage them.

Yeah, exactly. They’re totally losing their minds and freaking out, so why not? Let's just fill their heads with all this nonsense about Big Pharma and toxic drugs. If we get them sufficiently riled up, they'll probably go sprinting straight to their psychiatrist's office. ☕

I’m definitely one of those people who thinks psychotropic meds can be useful—they’ve helped me get through some pretty rough patches in my life—but what I just read today is honestly pretty alarming:

Look, every medication is a poison in its own way, and this one might even shrink your brain, haha
There aren't any actual details provided here, and even the title says it "could" shrink the brain. I assume this refers to long-term use of tranquilizers or perhaps drug abuse, which is a different conversation entirely. What I’m talking about—what I mean specifically—is taking psychiatric medications under strict medical supervision when they are absolutely necessary. In those cases, even if side effects like brain shrinkage are a possibility, they are negligible compared to the illness being treated. It’s like how chemotherapy or radiation can absolutely wreck a person, yet they go through it anyway just to get cured. A smaller brain equals fewer problems 😁

Some people just don't have a single clue, acting like there's absolutely no way to taper off psych meds without everything falling apart. 😁 Look, you can dial things back through plenty of other ways—misusing booze, hitting the drugs, smoking nicotine, or slamming energy drinks, not to mention the rest of that mess—but I’ve seriously never seen anyone try to play philosopher with people who are already deep in all that stuff.

Ryan Palmer2 said:Look, guys, these pills have never actually been tested for this. You realize that, right? Nobody has ever actually proven that "chemical imbalances in the brain" even exist. How are we supposed to know what a "correct balance" even looks like? Which specific chemicals need to be present, and in what exact ratios? A test like that has never even been conducted 😢

It’s all just a multi-billion dollar racket run by Big Pharma

Jesus, what else am I going to stumble upon today? 😲 Of course, they're poisoning us because the world is overpopulated and they want to thin out the herd. Got any better theories?

Ryan Palmer2 said:Who says I think girls who take the Yasmin pill are stupid?

I’m just pointing out that a huge number of people have taken their own lives after being put on psychotropic drugs.

If that side effect wasn't listed in the instructions, then it’s a straight-up cover-up. It's a violation of a patient's right to actually know what they're putting in their body. Sorry, Meta, but you aren't the problem, and neither are the people taking this stuff. They aren't to blame; they're just looking for help and haven't been given the full story. The fault lies with the people handing out what is essentially lethal poison under the guise of "medicine" without being transparent about the risks. Look at any of those horrific school shootings in America—every single one of those perpetrators was on Ritalin. One of its side effects is turning someone into a potential killer. That is exactly the kind of information people need to be told about every single pill.

It is true that certain psychiatric drugs can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, and that is highlighted on every single warning label. It is also common knowledge that many psychotropic drugs aren't prescribed to adolescents or children specifically because of those risks. In those cases, you wouldn't be suffering through a disorder alone; you'd be taking medication under strict medical supervision.
Besides, what do you mean by "potential killer"? We're all "potential" killers, whether we're on medication or not. 🙄 If someone commits a crime while on Ritalin, it doesn't necessarily mean the drug drove them to it.

What exactly is the concern here? Using any medication excessively over a long period—including Ambien—can lead to damage to both the brain and the liver. No sedative should really be used for more than a few months at most. Anything beyond that is obviously harmful. This article isn't breaking new ground; they're just stating the obvious, aren't they? 😬

You really should have just led with that instead of acting superior toward someone like me—someone who has actually lived through some things and doesn't still live under their parents' roof. Honestly, with an attitude that aggressive, you’re probably just going to end up alone, kid.☕

Sorbet, I find myself in that same category, though I’ve come to realize that once you reach a certain level of dependency, you almost have to adopt a certain pragmatism about it. It’s just the reality of the situation, I guess. You sort of have to learn how to live with that fact rather than letting articles like this weigh on your mind too heavily. It's a bit like health in general—some people never touch a cigarette and end up with lung cancer anyway, while others smoke two packs a day and live to be ninety from natural causes.

I hope you see where I'm coming from.

You forgot to factor in that certain level of aggression and that "I know everything" attitude she carries, which usually shows up in her posts while she's sitting at home under her parents' roof feeling frustrated. Let's be realistic... it's pretty obvious.

Look, I didn't even ask you that. If you're going to sit there and act like you know what you're talking about, then go ahead—lay it all out for me. Show me the actual evidence. Bring out the clinical studies that SCIENTIFICALLY back up those lies and those totally biased conclusions you're throwing around.

😂 Asking me for clinical studies? You want me to find studies proving that something DOESN'T exist?!

Anyway, the proof is right there in the psychiatrists themselves—in the video, they openly admit they've never actually cured anyone, they never know how a specific "medication" will work, and there isn't some definitive test to prove a "chemical imbalance." My goal isn't even to argue with you; you aren't the only one on this thread. I only chimed in because reading about people who were suffering from those pills actually brought tears to my eyes.

And why aren't there any psychiatrists posting here? Because they DON'T CARE!

Watch from 3:36 onwards; she literally says, "we don't have any laboratory tests that we can use..." http://www.cchr.org/videos/psychiatr...l-illness.html

That's just how it is.
Seriously, just take a closer look at all the threads and you'll see I'm definitely not the only target she's hitting, so please, just check it out.🙂
there's plenty of them here... constantly clashing with that Girl.

Nothing in this world changes the facts.

Man, just cut it out already! You're totally fixated on Girl and spouting all this nonsense about her when you don't even know what she's actually like! The people arguing with Girl are just the ones who have absolutely no clue what she's talking about in the first place!
Everything Girl says is backed up by logic, and honestly, she's just an educated, wonderful woman who isn't arrogant at all!
And she isn't attacking anyone—she's standing up for the people who come here looking for actual help or advice because their lives are falling apart, protecting them from those other trolls who poison them with ignorance and recklessness, acting like things like depression are just made-up excuses for being spoiled!
This is getting ridiculous because you've basically started a mob against Girl just to stroke your own ego, probably because you can't stand seeing smart, successful, young women who happen to be attractive too!
Well, newsflash, Girl has achieved all that and she has every right to be proud of what she's been through, which honestly just makes her a better, wiser person!
Besides, this psychology forum isn't meant for people who show up just to provoke others and pick fights, especially not for people aggressively pushing their views based on something they heard from one single psychiatrist who doesn't even understand the basics of psychopharmacology.

So what? Even if there aren't lab tests, does that mean anything that isn't physically tangible or visible to the naked eye just doesn't exist?
The brain is the engine behind everything; without it, nothing else functions, so can you prove that with a lab test too?
And just because you read something online or in a magazine, that makes it gospel? That honestly just says a lot about your level of education.
Besides, why would any psychiatrist bother coming here? To argue with people who don't know what they're talking about and try to prove points? They've got much better things to do, like actually treating patients, unlike people who just spend their time beating around the bush and selling snake oil!

What do you mean?!

If that's the case, then I guess they're out there selling snake oil all over the world.

Sure, you can definitely prove through testing that life doesn't exist without a brain. 😂 Watch what you say. 😂

If you refuse to see it, then they’re the ones who are crazy. 😂 They hand out dangerous drugs under the guise of a "chemical imbalance"—something that has never been proven because it simply doesn't exist. 😂 And they'll admit it, dead serious, when you get close with a microphone and a camera.

Of course suffering is real, but they don't actually know how to help, nor is that their intention.

Harsh, but true.

And why should they show up? Because people come here looking for help. 😕

As for the internet, you're literally using it right now to post this. 😂 😂 😂

Every drug lists its side effects clearly enough. Of course, that assumes you actually know how to read and properly interpret what's in front of you.

Then how do you explain psychiatrists basically admitting they're flying blind? No standardized tests, no hard evidence, and zero track record of actually curing anyone. Isn't that just a massive breach of trust? People put their faith in these doctors and swallow all kinds of junk, believing they're dealing with someone competent and well-meaning, when in reality—it’s a scam. 🤷

Come on...
