edit: You can do what restlessangler suggested, but this way it'll trigger an automatic shutdown..

Just following up on my previous post,
when you click that "icon" that usually stands for Power, the computer just goes straight into Sleep mode.
That's why I mentioned

Don't just go to Start/ and look for the power icon there—instead, click that little right arrow at the very bottom-right corner of the menu, and that's where the options pop up including the Shut down command.

Hopefully that does the trick! Honestly, I’ve had to explain to all my new users—whether they're on Vista or, as of today, 7—that the logic is just a bit different.

I definitely learned that lesson the hard way myself, haha!

Thanks for the tip, but I'm totally missing the mark here. 😁
Here is a screenshot of the details...

Unfortunately, that wasn't it either...

Is this some kind of software glitch, or could we be looking at a hardware issue?!

Open the command prompt (Shut down -> All programs -> Accessories, then right-click "Command prompt" and select "Run as Administrator"). Type "shutdown -s -t 1" and hit enter. We'll see if it actually shuts down or if you run into the same issue again. That might tell us what our next move is.

Did a quick Google search... you using an ASUS motherboard?
A lot of people with those boards complain about this exact issue.

Anthony Wilson48 said:Since I'm a college student, I downloaded Windows 7 from the MSDN-AA community... When I grabbed it, I got the password, basically the license serial... I'm wondering if this license can be used more than once. The reason is that I have to format my hard drive, so I don't know if I'll be able to reinstall Windows 7 later.

MSDN

Q: Does the license (or "key") permanently unlock the software?
A: No - the key allows you to install the software once. If you need to re-install the software, you will need to contact the PA (Program Administrator) at your school. Your PA's contact email information can be found on the support page. To view this information, please click on the Support button above.

It’s the exact same thing over here...
So, basically, Windows goes through its whole "shutting down" routine—you know, doing all the digital housekeeping—but then the actual machine just refuses to quit! It stays running, even though there's absolutely no signal going to the monitor. All the fans are spinning away, and that little LED indicator light is still glowing like everything is totally fine. But when I hit the power button to try and force it off? Nothing happens at all—well, except for that weird little response after about 4 seconds.

Try this... I found this on some forum somewhere..

* Click “Shut”, right-click “Computer” and select “Properties”, then click “Device Manager”

* Look for “IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers” and expand it.

* You should see one device: “VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller”

* Right-click it, hit “Properties”, go to the “Power Management” tab, and check “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

after that The computer should Power down normally.

* IF you can't find the VIA 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller in Device Manager (like I did), try this: Reboot and jump into the BIOS. The IEEE 1394 Controller is Enabled in There. Disable it, save the BIOS settings, and boot back into Windows 7. Now The via 1394 Controller shows up in The Device Manager !! Isn't that backwards? Weird.

Well, shoot—it looks like I've hit a bit of a snag! I went looking through my settings, but unfortunately, I don't see a "Power Management" tab anywhere to be found. 😢

Hey everyone, quick question about firewalls. My ZoneAlarm is being totally useless right now, and it looks like the built-in Windows firewall isn't doing much to block outgoing traffic either. Is there actually a way to tweak the settings to get that working?

So, I have a question for you all, because frankly, I simply cannot face the daunting task of scouring through this endless sea of forum threads for an answer myself—if you don't mind my asking.

In your honest opinion, how does Windows 7 actually hold up when it comes to driver support and software compatibility, especially when you compare it to the old reliable Windows XP? That’s really all I’m looking for!!

you won't even need to mess with drivers, everything just works right out of the box...

all your programs run fine too...☕

It depends on what components you're running, but I guess the basics will work without drivers

You mean McAfee Total Protection?

There are some issues, which McAfee themselves actually admitted.

One way to fix it is laid out in detail on this page.
