What counts as urban music? in Music ·
I feel like that term really took off once song lyrics started focusing on city life—you know, capturing that gritty, metropolitan, urban vibe. But then, basically everyone moved to the suburbs or the cities, and the distinction just lost its edge. Nowadays, people just use it as a shorthand to tell the difference between old-school country music and stuff that feels more like it belongs in the city.
Right?

The era a movie comes out doesn't matter. A good film is a good film. Period. (That’s just me talking to myself 😬). I keep mixing up Highlander and Cliffhanger, too. And honestly, I don't get why Amy Gomez36 is defending Stallone so aggressively 😁
Dawn of the Dead (2004) in Movies ·
They completely trashed this movie. As soon as I saw zombies sprinting faster than Olympic athletes, I knew—this is going straight to the trash bin. Then you get those outdoor scenes where a bit of that Romer atmosphere actually hits you, but even that vanishes instantly. Total garbage.

The brilliant part about a Romer film was when they asked, "Why are these zombies here, just wandering through a shopping mall?" And the answer is: because it’s all they remember. They felt safe there, and now those tiny fragments of humanity drive them back to that spot. You watch these decaying things mumble and wander. There's actual social commentary on consumerism in there! It's beautiful! You actually feel for these pathetic corpses who were just as dead inside before they actually died! Get it?!

But then you get this brand-new, ultra-modernized version where the zombies are like crazed werewolves on steroids sprinting toward the mall, and then some guy claims they're there for the memories. WHAT A TOTAL JOKE!! 😠😠 Fast zombies are absolute nonsense. I was laughing out of pure desperation while watching.

It's like they took the Romer version and retooled it for ten-year-olds. Then they throw in some nudity at the end to try and make up for it. Just pure stupidity. Honestly, the lead woman slightly reminded me of the one from Night of the Living Dead, so that's the only plus. And the Black character had a resemblance to the one from Dawn of the Dead. Except she looks like she spends all day lifting heavy weights, haha... just total muscle-bound idiots.

Man, blueranger12, I loved the old Dawn of the Dead. It wasn't even about the bone-chilling panic for me, it was just this wild sense of playfulness in the movie. Like those 20 or 30 minutes where they’re all stuck in that mall, barricaded behind trucks. (p.s. haven't seen the new one yet) Those minutes were pure bliss. Scenes just flowing to the music, them sitting down for a fancy dinner together, Nick looking through fine clothes and just enjoying himself. They play games, they laugh... sure, it’s a little slow here and there, but hey, it's a horror movie, duh! 😁 Meanwhile, zombies are just wandering around outside. It reminded me of that feeling of being in a warm house while it's pouring rain outside. You feel totally safe. You're just happy because it's cold and rainy out there.
Or like when they were messing with the zombies by stepping into the store through the double doors. Just watching them through the glass and laughing. That kind of stuff? That's what makes a movie genius. 🙏 😁 Beautiful... Night of the Living Dead was darker, definitely a cult classic, but for me, this was the peak.
I've gotta watch this new movie just so I can properly tear it to shreds.

Ugh, I absolutely loathe that over-the-top, deep American movie trailer voice. 😁 It drives me insane. My only cure is to mimic him and scream like a maniac in the middle of AMC Theatres.

8 WOMEN, 4 CHAIRS, 24 HOURS, AND ONE TINY WHITE BALL! IN EVERY THEATER! 😁

I actually love a trailer if it isn't just some recycled, repetitive garbage. 😉 But if it’s for an actual good movie? Man, I start drooling.

Look, William Doyle2, this isn't some sci-fi flick where the whole point is internal logic. It was supposed to be a sensitive piece. That ending? You just take it and go, "Huh, interesting." That's it. It's not some puzzle you have to solve. You didn't miss anything, don't sweat it.

edit: unless, obviously, I missed something myself 😉 But since I've only missed maybe three or four things in my entire life, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about here. ☕

Thanks Richard Hernandez13 🙂 🙂

Oh, and when I said "some people still think he faked his death," I meant there are actually folks out there who still believe that stuff. I've seen some conspiracy theories about it floating around online. But honestly? Even with just half an idea of what happened, I'm telling you, this is the real deal.
Neil Armstrong (1999) in Movies ·
I have to say, Richard Hernandez13 is a straight-up avatar genius 🤣 where do you even find someone like that? 😁

Oh, and some people still think Andy Kaufman actually faked his death. Like he just got bored with being famous and decided to pull one last massive, ultimate prank.

I don't even know why they couldn't just say he actually acted, but I've seen people talking about that special effect all over the place. Look, it was an effect.

Fast & Furious said:He had to throw in those theological undertones. Otherwise, it would’ve just been another shallow, surface-level blockbuster without any actual substance.

But why not do the opposite? Add some blockbuster energy so it isn't just pure religious preaching. That’s what I’d do. That’s how it should have been. Instead, we ended up exactly how you described.

Lisa Wilson49 said:p.p.s. Interesting point, but I don't think Foster's character had some "pure faith in herself" in a religious sense. It was more like a belief in something massive and incomprehensible, since we're all just tiny specs on this planet.

Yeah, it wasn't really about religion. It was more that she spent her whole life trying to find her parents. That’s what actually pushed her forward, not just a raw hunger for science or discovery. So, at the end, during that judgment scene, she sees that people are just human—just regular people who have to believe in things. And then that moment where she walks down the stairs and gets into the car while the crowd cheers... I don't know.

Oh, and another tearjerker: that part when she's in the capsule, looking out at those stunning galaxies and saying—They should have sent a poet!

Man, this movie is just beautiful!

Imagine Jodie Foster talking about space and aliens. She’d be diving into God, too. How scientists actually deal with faith when facing the unknown. She’d probably claim the entire government is just one actor in disguise—James Woods, maybe?! What else could you even say? Not even going to try to spell Matthew McConaughey's name right. 😁

Honestly? This could've been a masterpiece. It needed to be calmer. They should have leaned harder into those heavy questions about morality, faith, and science. That scene with the crowds of crazies swarming the launch site was just overkill. And that religious fanatic character? Totally useless. The movie feels way too cluttered, like they tried to jam too much in. I actually would’ve preferred if it were a bit slower. Every few minutes, I kept seeing the potential for it to be great. But it just wasn't.

Man, Jodie Foster totally broke me. Seriously. This tiny woman, completely lost in her own science—science she trusts blindly even though it’s actually driven by some deep, hidden faith. Watching her shaking around in that capsule, shouting, "I'm okay to go! I'm okay to go!"... I just lost it. She's incredible.

What? vi What do you guys think about this movie?

After reading this thread, I finally gave their Agents of Fortune a spin, and now I can't stop playing Don't Fear the Reaper.
Man, that melody is just so smooth. Seriously. You can tell it’s a bit of a departure from their usual sound, too. Doesn't matter though—it's on repeat for me.

edit: Just realized this is everyone's absolute favorite track. 😁 👍

Angela Richardson15 said:Come on, try debunking this argument.😁

Oh, please, try debunking mine: I saw one beautiful scene, and Christians were busy admiring the Colosseum in Rome.😁 Therefore: the movie is garbage. QED.

Gregory Smith4 has "arrogant" tattooed on his forehead😁 but hey, what can you do? That’s just how he is. That’s how he survives. I'm done spamming this thread. If anyone wants to fight, just PM me.

Learning from my Christian ancestors here, I’m calling it: this movie is garbage. 👎 But unlike before, I actually have solid evidence now. 😁
Man, I really regret not watching it just so I could talk more trash. What a waste. There'll be plenty more like this, though—it's obvious HRTL is an endless fountain of junk. 🙂 🙂

p.s. if kozz catches me talking nonsense on this thread without even seeing the flick, they better just delete me right then and there. 😁

Jose Miller17 said:What’s up, blueranger12? I was young and naive back then. I used to believe you had to watch garbage just to appreciate the good stuff...
this movie totally wrecked that mindset for me.😁

😁
But at what cost?! That movie basically fried your brain 😁 Just kidding, obviously.😉
Walking through the living room while that thing was playing, I caught some yellow scenes—everything was just yellow. At first, I thought the TV finally died on me, but then I realized it was intentional. Actually liked it. Based on those clips, the movie is solid.😁

That movie is such garbage I haven't even bothered watching it. It’s absolute trash. My brother tried watching it for a bit, then gave up, then tried again—it’s just that bad. It’s total junk, like some budget version of Travolta from back in the day. Honestly, I haven't seen it myself, which makes me a loser too. 😁 Ali I trust Jose Miller17. Actually, Jose Miller17 is a loser too because he clearly watched the damn thing. You guys are all trash.

Oh man, yes! I knew Benicio was easy on the eyes 😁 Brad Pitt and Depp are just too smooth. But Joaquin? I'll never be able to figure him out 🙂
