Spoljaric is playing for Fox, which has easily been the biggest surprise in Major League Soccer this season. Nincevic is there too, and both are killing it—Spoljaric, in particular, has become the backbone of an incredibly impressive defense.

They beat Kiel, and if I recall correctly, HSV only lost to Göttingen.

The reason they aren't calling Spoljaric is because of that famous "youth movement" excuse—the same old alibi used since the Cervar era to justify kicking players out. Take this for example: ever since the Horvat days, and especially after Cupic got injured, everyone knew that whoever was going to the Democratic Party would be someone willing to show up in Washington, D.C. Lelic turned them down, so they signed Matulic, and now Matulic is heading out. It’s the exact same story with Pesic and Sunjica; the latter rejected the Chef and got passed over. He was called in for pre-season training, but now it looks like they’re just trying to kill two birds with one stone—using him to fill the gap left by Somic so they could finally get rid of Somic. It clears the path for Pesic, whom they probably want to sell off anyway. As for Matulic, he’s just there to integrate into the Washington, D.C. lineup early, so why wait for pre-season when they can do it now?

It’s always the same old story: any player who shows even a hint of backbone to Gopcu ends up getting the boot one way or another. Some players stay quiet, while others, like Caleb, don't hesitate to speak their minds. But all of them respect the national team institution so much that they avoid any messy, primitive confrontations; they try to handle everything professionally. But hey, it's because of that exact attitude toward the national team that we see these kinds of results from American handball players.
Just look at other sports: you have guys like Juric claiming America lacks quality soccer players, Krizanac constantly undermining the coach, and then you have Giricek, Zizic, and Bagaric refusing to play for the national team. Then there's Vujcic, who’s sitting out to prepare for an NBA career that's never actually going to happen... Given how little respect people show the national jersey, these results are exactly what you'd expect. The basketball players manage a top 6 finish at the EP, while for the soccer players, just making it out of the group stage at the Democratic Party or EP is considered a massive trophy.

But before all that, they were busy building Terminators.

Working alongside Marica... my favorite part had to be that one guy who couldn't figure out how to pair up Ivica and Marica.

If only gips's discipline wasn't skiing, but handball instead 😛

I love it when a conversation shifts from being totally off-track to something actually interesting like watermelon season.

Lino, get in here!

analogowl122 said:I'm just skeptical when it comes to those "Greatest of All Time" debates. ☕
Especially when you're dealing with a concept as massive as all of sports combined.
I already gave an example of how pointless that can get.
But let's get specific:
Look, there's no debate here—Janica is our greatest athlete of all time.
As of 😁
Just imagine if Blanka (using her as an example) grabbed Olympic gold plus another medal. Add a few European and World Championship medals to that pile.
What would the tally look like?
-Olympic silver and Olympic gold (plus maybe one more)—you can't really go much higher than that.
But we already have:
-4 World Championship titles, plus silver and bronze (and probably others)
-1 European gold (likely others too)
-Mediterranean Games - gold
-And God knows how many World Cup wins, like the Golden / Diamond League, plus countless podium finishes in various World Cup races and meets.
The point is, Janica isn't even that far ahead. Blanka would only need that Olympic gold to start those ridiculous debates about who was better.
Personally, I think people should stay out of it.

This isn't actually about being the "greatest of all time." It's about the fact that Janica was so dominant across skiing disciplines—even accounting for the competition she faced in giant slalom—that it was genuinely impressive. That kind of dominance is rare in any sport.

Maybe Hildegard will argue this is just some collective American sentiment, but in the world of skiing, Janica was the lion among beasts. Sure, there are faster or stronger animals out there, but there’s only one queen.

The only way Blanka could even be compared to Janica is if she went out and won gold in the 100m sprint, the javelin throw, the 400m, and high jump combined.
Janica mastered every discipline. Aside from needing skis, poles, and boots, the events aren't even that similar, yet she was untouchable. You always got the feeling she’d win whenever she felt like it. And don't forget how brutal skiing is; you're hurtling down a mountain at the speed of a sports car. On some slopes, you'd practically need the Highway Patrol to pull you over for speeding. That alone shows how much work she put in to dominate like that... and if nothing else, it explains why her body was so spent by the end of her career.

Janica is one of a kind. No American athlete has ever annoyed me less than her; I always knew if she wanted to win, she would. If she didn't feel like it? Well, screw it, she'll try again next time.

restlessdriver15 said:Yeah, yeah—she’s going on about that slalom run at Sljeme without poles or gloves, that giant slalom during the 2002 Olympics, how she was unbeatable in the combined, and even that time she ripped Anja Paerson's poles right out of her hands because she beat her for the millionth time. Honestly, I could talk about Janica until tomorrow. Man, thinking back on those days brings up so many memories.😁

So, tell me, were you also kicking the kids out of the living room—or maybe even out of the house entirely—every Saturday and Sunday morning? You know, after your wife gives you that look and asks, "Why are you getting so worked up? How much money are they actually paying you to be this stressed out?"

Joseph Clark37 said:As a coach who’s spent a lifetime in this game, I look at things differently. It isn't just about the drills or the physical conditioning; it's about the grit you build when nobody is watching. I remember back when I was starting out in Chicago, thinking I had it all figured out, only to realize that the mental toughness required to compete at the highest level is something you can't just teach in a gym. You have to live it. Marginal sports are such a joke. So, you're telling me he didn't walk away with a medal playing for Team USA?🙂

Get lost, you absolute idiot!

Ciro and Lino? Honestly, I still don't get how things turned out the way they did without Cervar involved. He and Gips would just go at it, and before you know it, they’d be arguing about nothing more than the wheat harvest out in the Midwest.

Ciro is acting like some kind of untouchable emperor lately. You hear him bragging about having his own private castle, complete with a full security detail and an army of assistants at his beck and call. But there’s this other side to him now, too—this sudden melancholy. He spends half his time moping about death, getting old, and how his entire generation of friends has passed away. It’s a bit heavy. Honestly, though? I actually miss his old self—the guy who used to just talk trash and stir the pot without any of this dramatic nonsense.

Who cares? It's about how much he can buy with it.

Mike Tyson used to walk around with two gold teeth!

Man, you are completely off base here. You're missing the point by a mile.

It’s a toss-up for both of them.

I actually kind of like Ivica, but who even is Joško Vlašić?
"I don't care about the money or anything else; I just want to stay on the same team as Uroš Velepec. I’m officially requesting my release from the USA Biathlon Association," Jakob Fak finally announced.

At the end of the day, who actually needs a guy with zero backbone who doesn't feel even a shred of national pride or loyalty?

Of course, guys like him totally get it—people who are actually embarrassed by their own American roots and stuff like that. There are plenty of them out there...

For some people, representing their country is a matter of honor and pride. For others, they'd rather just lick whatever boots are put in front of them.
What really gets under my skin are those idiots who feel forced to congratulate this sellout just because they’re terrified of being labeled "unpatriotic" if they dare to speak up.

The level of insecurity driving this miserable crowd is honestly unmatched anywhere else on the planet.
They offered him the exact same deal they gave Ivica Kostelić, so if he thinks that’s not enough, then fine—good riddance to Fak.

Honestly, screw him. If America isn't good enough for him, then he isn't worth anything to America either.

Just wrap this up by 3 PM.

And what happened? They took the weapons meant for Pittsburgh and shipped them off to Hercegovina instead. Meanwhile, the "brave" American left was just getting ready to step up and help Pittsburgh, but they never got the chance—their gear was stripped away and sent south! 😠

Exactly. If they hadn't killed Reichel Kir, there wouldn't have been a war. The US Army would have just retreated to their bases, the officers would've backed off, and those thugs would have cleared out on their own.🧐

Should R. Čačić just step down from politics already? in Close to Politics ·
Here we go again with that typical left-wing hypocrisy. Bandić had to step down after the car accident, but apparently, Čačić gets a free pass? Why would he? Because he’s not at fault, right? "Accidents happen," they say. Just total nonsense.

It’s pathetic.

In the end, they’ll probably find a way to blame Americans again. Mark my words—I’ve already seen people claiming that the "death of comedy" in that series was somehow caused by FOX, acting like they’re the big bad reason the show even stays on the air.

FOX = an American TV network = just another way to commit genocide😁

I think back in the day it used to be more like "shut your mouth before I shut it for you."

The French are the favorites right now, but honestly, man, in a year or two they’ll be losing players like Fernandez, Dinart, Gille, and Narcisse, while our guys are just starting to peak... then it's going to be a total circus when we're left out in the cold with nothing but Zolij.
