Music school recommendations? in Students & Teens ·

I am totally, 100% on board with this.
Honestly, I still can't stand those repetitive ear training drills even today, and I really think it’s just plain stupid to spend all that time scribbling down patterns and repeating chords that you're just going to pick up naturally once you actually start playing your instrument anyway.
The choir is where the real magic happens, you know? That's the real deal.
Not some mindless, brain-numbing exercise like "do re mi fa mi fa re..." over and over again.😬

Man, believe me, you’re gonna make life so much easier just by not having to struggle through figuring out which note is which or trying to catch the beat while everyone else is cruising along 😬 😉 ... not to mention how you'll develop a way better ear for music than people who haven't had any training at all. Plus, getting to see how all those other instruments work during your classes... you can pretty much count all that toward just being a well-rounded person.

Let's not get carried away with generalizations here. I know plenty of incredibly talented, driven, and musically gifted people who never stepped foot in a formal music conservatory in their lives.
And if we're talking about general culture, sure, I played Mozart, Bach, and Haydn, but I didn't actually *get* them until I sat through my music appreciation classes back in high school..
😬
But saying those eight years were a total waste of time? No way, definitely not.

Honestly, regarding picking an instrument... I'm not sure if that actually matters that much for a kid. At 5 or 6 years old, they don't really care, right? They barely even know what half these instruments are yet.

I don't know about that... for me, it was a huge deal..
See, my mom's friend played the flute in a local theater production and during one show I just totally fell in love with the sound and was like—that's the one! I want to do that!
I was only 6 years old

Like, how you picked an instrument, what it was like dealing with the teachers or the school itself, all that good stuff? Also, at what age should they actually start? Seriously, any bit of advice helps!!!

Look, if your kid is genuinely obsessed with music—and I mean truly hooked, like they’re going to be grinding away at lessons for the next eight or ten years—just let them pick their own instrument! Don't force a violin on them if they want drums. Once they decide, then you go out and do your homework: talk to parents who have kids playing that specific instrument, find out which local academies have the best reputation, and scout out which professors are actually worth the tuition.
As for timing, you basically start music school right around the same time they head off to elementary school, maybe a year earlier or later depending on the kid.
And honestly, just a heads up, the most famous or "prestigious" schools aren't always the ones that actually produce the best results.👋

Edward Green said:My mom was actually telling me she thinks all lenses become cylindrical when you have high prescriptions. 😕

Nah, that's not quite right 😉
cylindrical lenses are specifically for correcting astigmatism—they're just a different type of lens altogether!

nah, won't happen 😳

Man, that Bill Clinton ointment is worth its weight in gold for stuff like this 😉
Is ReNu actually dangerous for your eyes? in Health ·
It feels like they’re constantly getting dragged into some new scandal, doesn't it?
I’ve been sticking with ReNu for five years now, honestly. I tried switching over to Complete once just to see what would happen, and oh my god, it was a disaster—my lenses felt like sandpaper and my eyes were just incredibly dry. Total nightmare.

EDIT: Wait, I actually haven't heard Proud Mary yet. Is that a total crime against music? 😁

Yeah, it is. 😉
Look, I don't touch any of that weight loss crap, honestly, just sticking to my multivitamins.
I mean, those pills can't actually replace a decent, real meal, you know? People really need to wrap their heads around that. 🙂

Another fascist outburst... :vomit: in Close to Politics ·
Rebecca? How would you know? Were you actually at the show, or just hanging out with people who act like fascists and heard it through the grapevine?

It doesn't matter.
Mark made a fair point. They aren't the fascists here; the real fascists are those bowing down to America and its communist atrocities. So... Rebecca, Phoenix, and the rest of you slippery fascists.
Electric Hair Removal in Health ·
Honestly, I feel like with electrician epilacija, there’s this tiny little zap on your skin, you know? Like a little snap... but since I was just doing such a tiny amount of hair, I can't even remember what the damage was to my wallet..
I just know for a fact it slows down the regrowth, and if you're lucky, it pretty much gets rid of it altogether..
Usually, you don't even need to go see a dermatologist for it, and honestly, you're better off hitting up a local beauty salon or a spa, so maybe just call around and ask about their rates..🙂

honestly, it just drives me crazy:

actually decided to 😬

hm. honestly, there's just so much garbage on Z1 that the competition is way too intense 😁 😁
Lentil recipes: Megathread in Health ·
I mean, honestly, things still tend to fall out of my eyes sometimes, so I don't know if the risk is even worth it, but the biggest thing is how much slower my prescription has been changing, not to mention how much easier life is without having to constantly fiddle with stuff😁
Back when I was stuck wearing glasses all the time, my prescription would jump by a whole step in less than a year...
But now? It’s finally leveled off at a pretty normal number..
Though, man, whenever I think back to the absolute nightmare of dealing with those hard contact lenses..
I swear I was on the verge of getting constant eye infections every single week..
