It’s been a long time since I even bothered trying to make sense of this stuff. I see a used card on Craigslist that looks just like it $667 too. I don't get how a new 2300 could be any different. What kind of used model can I hunt down for under $667 that would actually outperform that one?
So, he's looking for something decent up to $1567, but he only has the box; everything else is accounted for. He knows he won't get much for that kind of cash, so he’s thinking about grabbing a used GPU to save a few bucks. What would you guys suggest? He's got cash in hand, so local shops are giving him the runaround.
I was originally looking at getting a Core i5-10400, but I was pretty lost when it came to picking a motherboard since I didn't really know what was actually worth buying. From what I can tell though, the B550 seems like a solid choice. As for a cooler, if one comes included in the box, I don't think I need anything extra right now. The only other thing I'm wondering about is whether my current power supply can handle this build, and if not, what would you guys suggest I pick up?
Hey everyone. I'm looking to upgrade my rig and need some help picking out new parts.
It's been a minute since I was last deep into PC building—my current setup shows that—so I could really use some guidance on what actually holds up these days. Basically, I need a CPU, motherboard, RAM, a CPU cooler, and maybe a new PSU too.
Here’s what I'm running right now:
XFX Pro 450w
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
8gb Corsair vengeance ddr3
some old ASUS motherboard
Crucial MX500 500gb ssd
500gb hdd
NVIDIA Radeon RX 580 8GB
I'm aiming for an Intel build.
I'll shop at any major retailer where I can pay with a credit card via installments or just use cash on delivery. My budget is $1167
Honestly, I don't need anything fancy. I just want to be able to run some indie titles or maybe something like Call of Duty. And look, I'm not chasing top-tier graphics—if I can get decent performance on medium settings, I'm good.
To be honest, this cooler has been absolute garbage since the day I unboxed it. It sounds like a jet engine and temperatures were hitting 80 to 90 degrees while gaming. I’m actually kind of glad I trashed the stock fan because now I can finally grab a decent cooler, overclock it a bit, and hopefully squeeze a few more years out of it. What do you guys think—is this card still worth saving?
I'll probably just grab the Noctua NH-D15 since the price actually makes sense. Even my current GTX 660 with that Tahiti chip isn't exactly running ice cold. I'm going to slap those Noctua NH-D15 fans on there; I've already got them sitting in a drawer. I tried stripping off the shroud earlier, but this card uses an aluminum casing instead of plastic, so those Noctua NH-D15 fans wouldn't have been able to cool the stock heatsink anyway.
Can a Noctua NH-D15 actually handle the heat on my GPU? It doesn't seem too pricey, and I've got some spare fans lying around the house that I could mount onto the cooler for extra cooling.
I tried hacking together a DIY cooling setup once using two 120mm fans held on by zip ties. I plugged them straight into the motherboard and they spun just fine. But after a few minutes, my GPU started running insanely hot and the whole system would just crash. I set aside about $67 to actually fix this properly, so now I’m stuck not knowing what to buy. Buying from eBay is an option, but waiting forever for shipping sucks.
Hey everyone. Was cleaning my GPU today and managed to snap off two of the fan blades. Great job, me. The card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX series, looks like this. https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/...T_Black/4.html
So now I'm trying to figure out where to hunt down a replacement fan to fix this mess. Would the entire heatsink from a different 7870, like a Sapphire model, actually fit? Basically, strip mine my old one, slap on some fresh thermal paste, and just swap in the Sapphire heatsink?
Just looking for the cheapest way out of this hole...
I'm looking to pick up a portable HDD. I haven't messed around with electronics in a minute, so I've been out of the loop and have no clue what's actually good these days. Figured I'd come here for some advice.
I've got a few options lined up, so I need help picking one. Mainly, I just want to transfer movies and watch them directly off the drive on my laptop. Sometimes being an over-the-road trucker gets pretty dull, so any movie helps kill the time 😁
I'm trying to keep costs down, but I definitely want a 1TB drive with the longest warranty possible. This one caught my eye first. The price is great and it comes with a 3-year warranty.
Look, I’m stuck running my 7870 on ancient drivers because every time I try to install an update, I just get hit with a black screen. It’s pathetic. Honestly, I’m just counting down the days until this thing dies so I can finally jump ship to NVIDIA.
I grabbed another 26-inch TV and swapped it onto my desk where the monitor used to be. I'm not even bothering to fix this one. The TV's better and the resolution is identical.
