No signal: Screen goes black intermittently. in Hardware ·
I can't deal with this—my monitor blacks out for a few seconds every single time I try to enter the BIOS.

Nothing. Now the monitor won't even turn on at all. Usually, when everything's running right and it's plugged into the GPU, that blue light stays steady. But now? I switched it over to the integrated graphics and all I get is a yellow light, then total silence. Nothing happens.

I've got integrated graphics on my motherboard. Or at least, I think I do. The board is an ASRock 960GC-GS FX.

How do I switch from this dedicated card over to the integrated one? Besides just moving the cable, what else am I looking at?

Hey there..

Just got back home after being on the road for a few months, and I’ve already got a mess waiting for me. My PC is totally dead.
Basically, it starts booting up, hits the Windows loading screen, and then the monitor just goes black.
I figured it was a Windows issue, but I tried resetting it and jumping straight into the BIOS, and the screen still blacks out after a few seconds.
It's like there's no connection at all.

I need some help ASAP. I'm heading back out on the road in a couple of days—I drive long-haul trucks—and I really need this rig up and running so I can handle my paperwork.

Thanks 👍

Awesome, thanks for the help. He’ll definitely grab one of those two options—he'll just see which store makes the checkout process easier for him. 👍

I agree with my buddy—since he’s looking at some off-brand power supply, we should probably include a decent one in the total price.
Here’s how we put it together to keep the PSU included, so take a look and see if this works.

Intel Core i3-4130 (8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz), sAM3+ - My friend thinks he doesn't need a massive, overpriced CPU, so he wants us to drop the price a bit by switching the PSU.
ASUS Prime Motherboard, sAM3+ - Kept this exactly as you had it.
DDR3 8GB (1x8GB) PC3-12800 1866MHz CL10 Corsair Vengeance,
SanDisk X300 256GB SSD, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s, Read/Write: 520 MB/s / 470 MB/s, Random Read/Write IOPS 91K/57K,
XFX P1-450S-GREEN TS Series 450W PSU - I'm running this exact unit in a much beefier build, so it should be more than enough for this lower-end setup.

We cut the cooler out to keep the cost down; he can just pick one up next time. Would a stock cooler actually hold up for a month?

Does this look solid to you? Thanks for the help.

I’ve got up to $900 to spend and I need...

For the motherboard and CPU, I'm leaning toward an AMD setup.
A 120GB SSD should be plenty.
I definitely want at least 6GB of RAM, though 8GB would be ideal.

I’ve heard the stock coolers on AMD chips are absolute junk, so if I need to grab an aftermarket one, let me know. Otherwise, even better.

The rig is strictly for gaming; I already have all the other parts on my list.
What do you guys suggest?
Background music on the forum? in Forum Help! ·
Can you guys just kill this damn music already?
Every single freaking tab I open starts blasting audio—I’m done with all of you and these tabs!! I’d honestly rather deal with a Budweiser ad or those annoying pop-ups jumping out from the side than this absolute garbage music!

Before I started the driver install, I hopped into System Configuration and went to the BOOT tab to check BASE VIDEO.

I kicked off the installation, and sure enough, the usual happens—the screen goes black right in the middle of it. I waited about 10 minutes for it to finish, then just forced a reboot.

When it booted back up, it stayed in BASE VIDEO mode, so everything actually worked.

Once you're up and running, you have to race over to Control Panel under VGA DISPLAY PROPERTIES to uncheck USE EXTENDED DISPLAY IDENTIFICATION DATA (EDID) and manually pick your resolution.

Just a heads-up: you have to move fast. If you don't, the screen blacks out again within a minute.

After you've tweaked things in Control Panel, go back to the desktop, right-click, and set the resolution to match what you picked in Control Panel.

It’s a total nightmare. 🤦

Got it done.. 😁
Finally wrestled those new drivers into place after a massive headache 🙂

Look, man, please just walk me through the whole process step by step.

Once that pops up right in the middle of a driver installation, nothing else matters. At that point, the whole thing is just dead in the water.

I'm running an old Dell UltraSharp 22
The resolution is set at 1680x1050 at 60Hz
But I can't seem to bump up the refresh rate no matter what I try...

According to this, it should be able to hit 83Hz

But the second I try to push it past 60, I just get that "out of range" error message.

Alright, I rolled back to the old drivers... Does that mean I'm stuck without the new ones?
I really want to test out NVIDIA Dynamic Super Resolution.

So what's the point then?

Kimberly Gomez34 said:What tool did you use to wipe out the leftover driver sweeper files?

Try resetting your monitor to its default settings—native resolution, standard refresh rate, all that stuff—before you test it again.

Using Display Driver Uninstaller..

I didn't touch any monitor settings..

Guys, I’m stuck...
I was running the old 14.9 drivers and tried to swap them out for the new 15.7 version.
I wiped the old ones through the Control Panel and used a cleanup tool to scrub any leftover junk from the system.

Started the new installation, but halfway through, everything went black. Now my monitor is just screaming "ANALOG OUT OF RANGE 74.9/50."
I tried rebooting, but it’s useless—every single time Windows loads, that error pops right back up.

I managed to get into Safe Mode, but trying to run the driver install from there didn't do a damn thing.

I'm at a total loss here.

Thanks for the breakdown, everything makes sense now. 🙂

And I was thinking I’d get at least 3200 out of this... this feels a bit low to me..
