Maybe a couple of weeks at most. I usually stay pretty caught up with new releases, though there was this one stretch back in 2011 where I didn't have anything or even a computer—but even then, I just watched movies on the TV.

nimblemarlin6 said:Exactly. And here is why:
Absolutely NOTHING today compares to how it felt when the first Star Wars movie hit theaters. It was something entirely new, something we had never seen before.
And then, after that first film, you had to wait four whole years just to see what happened next! No rewatching, no chance to sit there and analyze every single frame.
Then ESB arrived and did it all over again! And after ESB, we faced ANOTHER three-year wait! That kind of intense tension building is something that can probably never be replicated in the film industry.
That’s why Star Wars—specifically the original trilogy—will always be a legend, a myth. The peak of Star Wars will always get the heart racing. It’s a conditioned reflex for entire generations.

Meanwhile, the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel movies will eventually—and likely very soon—just become another franchise among many others.

I agree. The Avengers definitely had their moments. It all kicked off in 2012 with the Chitauri invasion and wrapped up with Tony's snap in 2019, and that was it.

The Star Wars story started in 1977 and concluded in 2019.

Star Wars also has way fewer movies compared to the MCU, whereas you can't really watch the Avengers standalone without all the spin-offs, otherwise, you wouldn't understand the plot. The MCU turned its movies into series, which is cool, but it's exhausting to keep up with. It took me a full week to catch everything, and those were epic marathons. Star Wars is much easier to follow in that regard.

I still don't quite get why this sudden debate between Star Wars and the Avengers is happening right now?

Regarding AE, the Time Heist felt poorly executed to me. For example, why didn't the Avengers just call Carol, gather everyone together, and use the time travel device to go back to 2018 (during the AIW film), have Carol take out Thanos, grab the stones, and head back to the future? If they had, we wouldn't even need that Portal scene.

The Avengers aren't acting rational, and neither is Tony. With proper planning, Carol could have finished the job without all this trouble; Tony's sacrifice feels unnecessary. It's the same with Anakin's situation. Morgan has to live without a father because the Avengers failed to plan their attack on Thanos properly. Doctor Strange was also being foolish—he came back via the snap, allowed a minute or two to pass, instead of showing up immediately at the Avengers base or using some magic to wipe out the fiery rain from the Sanctuary II ship before the bombardment. Oh, and he could have used a portal to move the Infinity Gauntlet to three different moms, if not him, then Wong.

Even though AE is an epic film, it only reached that status because certain Avengers are incredibly clueless, and many people defend AE for various reasons. AIW is actually a bigger movie than AE. In fact, AIF eats A1 and AAoU for breakfast. A1 is just your average MCU film, while AAoU matured from being mediocre to something better because of the hundred factors revealed in the future (like Tony's vision). Ultron could have been the best antagonist, but he ended up being as smart as Skynet (which failed to trigger Doomsday—what a coincidence, Genisys came out the same year as AAoU, where Skynet is as dumb as Ultron, or vice versa).

Honestly, if I looked a little deeper, I'd conclude that Star Wars is better. But I won't say it because I love them both equally.

When you look closer, every Avengers movie becomes somewhat less enjoyable because you realize certain things shouldn't have happened that way. If I analyze AIW deeply, we see that all the Avengers were nerfed just to make Thanos look good. It just happens that the foolish Asgardians hand the Aether over to the Collector, that Ragnarok actually happens in Asgard in 2018, that the Civil War splits the group so badly that they act like bickering siblings who won't cooperate at any cost, that Gamora is the only one in the universe who knows where Vormir is, that the damn Hulk doesn't undergo his transformation into the Prime Hulk in Wakanda (as one deleted scene suggests), that Thor doesn't injure Thanos anymore after getting his chest pierced, that Ross watches the world burn and does nothing while bragging about taking down anyone in his way, that Tony didn't give the nano suit to Rhodey, who could have used it better than that kid Peter, that Carol didn't get any heads-up about the attack on Xandar where Thanos wiped a planet off the face of the Earth for the Power Stone, that Carol wasn't even aware of Thanos's actions after Ronan died in GotG1, that the Asgardians surrendered so easily to Loki even though Odin was supposedly retired on Earth (if he chose to retire, why didn't he contact Thor, and why didn't Thor meet Thanos during his search for the stones?), that the Asgardians weren't in touch with Nidavellir when Thanos destroyed everything back in 2015 (that was three damn years before Thanos's attack on Xandar!) just to make the gauntlet, and that the foolish Heimdall didn't sense anything (he's supposed to see every soul, and Eitri should be his guy, his personal smith), and he just let Loki take over Asgard and cause Ragnarok... if we keep going, he should have sensed Thanos's attack on Nidavellir in 2015, and no surviving Asgardian knew about the realm that was born after Odin's death, which could have cooked Thanos even if he theoretically came to Asgard for the Space Stone after the 2018 Xandar attack, and that the foolish Doctor Strange didn't freeze time, which would have allowed for killing Thanos on the spot back in 2018...

Thanos really lucked out, didn't he? Everything just fell perfectly into place. It feels like everyone else was basically nerfed just so he could collect those stones without breaking a sweat.

Oh, and the stones haven't been destroyed yet either. They've just been broken down into atoms, so Pym could theoretically bring them back and scale them up using a locator.

The MCU doesn't have many flaws, but honestly, the weakest links so far have definitely been the Spider-Man movies. That one, Far From Home, felt like a total insult to my intelligence. I mean, Chuck, Tony consciously hands over EDITH to the kid instead of, say, Rhodey, who is actually a damn military pilot and a seasoned fighter. Tony gave the nano-suit to the kid, but where is that same suit for Rhodey? He’s Tony's BEST friend. Even though Far From Home is a fun watch, it feels like an insult to the whole MCU franchise (and the Spider-Man Universe too). As for GotG vol 2, the only reason it holds any value is because of Yondu's death, nothing else. Ego is an incredibly weak antagonist. And the Incredible Hulk isn't worth much now since Norton isn't playing him in future MCU films, and the MCU has basically nerfed Hulk's character anyway—it's only really notable for that snap moment where everyone came back.

Oh, and let me be clear: Rhodey is the true successor to Tony. Period! The MCU really messed up with that whole speech about Spider-Man being the heir.

In something like the Star Wars world, I've heard people claim the prequel trilogy was bad, but it's nowhere near as bad as Spider-Man in the MCU. It's the same with LOTR; it isn't bad at all. That scene where the ship gets sliced in half during hyperspeed? Holy f*ck! Best scene ever.

Kimberly Flores5,

I'm not arguing against AE, because I genuinely love it. But we're really talking about how Star Wars compares to the Avengers saga here. I actually became a fan of both franchises quite recently. The Force Awakens was my first ever Star Wars movie, and that’s what finally pulled me out of the "never seen Star Wars" club. I liked that one, and I found myself eagerly waiting for the sequels. Rogue One is an absolute masterpiece, though... and don't even get me started on TROS.

As for the Avengers saga, I didn't really follow it until way back in 2016—which was four years after the first Avengers!—after I'd only seen GotG and what I thought was CAWS. But I truly dove headfirst into the Avengers world after AIW, and since then, I've watched everything else a few times over.

You just can't compare the experience of seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters to watching Avengers: Endgame. It's because they attract totally different fan bases. The Marvel Cinematic Universe pulls in a lot of younger viewers, so naturally, you get those more emotional outbursts during legendary scenes. For me, finishing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Avengers: Endgame felt almost identical. The only difference was that I actually teared up over Tony's death, though I probably would have cried just as hard if he had died in something like Iron Man 4 instead.

Avengers: Infinity War is a much bigger, more massive cinematic achievement than Avengers: Endgame, but since Endgame wrapped everything up, people tend to remember it better.

But then you look at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It’s part of a story that actually started back in the 70s. It brings together threads from all three trilogies and pulls in elements reminiscent of Han Solo—it's wild. Plus, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is easily one of the best movies of this decade, and so on...

It’s definitely Star Wars for me. Even though being hit by the events of Avengers 4 really got to me—I still can't watch Avengers: Endgame without tearing up—the whole Star Wars franchise carries this massive weight. It has all these fans and a buildup that started back when Star Wars was truly revolutionary.

The Star Wars fan base is massive, and the strongest part is how it’s been passed down from one generation to the next. You just can't compare that to the MCU (the world that was born with Iron Man 2008), even though the MCU does have its own fan base rooted in those Lee and Ditka comics. I wasn't around back then, but I honestly think the Star Wars fan base was way bigger than Marvel's, at least compared to the comics.

I voted "equal" because I truly can't say "this one is better," since there isn't one. I watched Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker today, and it honestly just floored me.

This movie is going to give Rule 34 artists plenty of material to work with.
I can't wait for the race. I'm honestly pretty hyped because there's a chance we might actually see Mečkin 100 break that century-old record at this track as early as today.
Man, I really got overcut by those guys. Even though my strategy was pretty damn aggressive with the undercut.

The season has undergone a total rebirth, though it feels almost too late. Bear is already knocking on the door for both titles.

But we shouldn't let that get us down. Honestly, the last few races have been pretty exciting, and there's still plenty of room for things to change. For instance, the next break takes us to the US Grand Prix, a track where Bear has had absolute dominance. Out of all seven races held in the US (counting back to 1913 and 1914), every single one went to Mercedes. Ferrari has shown they have a car built for fast tracks, and they might just break that streak this year.

Personally, that thought has me pumped up, and I can't wait for the race—even if people say the US Grand Prix is the most boring track out there. Plus, the midfield is absolutely on fire right now. We should see some intense battles on Sunday!

Quick hits, news ahead of the US Grand Prix:

- Lewis Hamilton: We need to work hard; Ferrari is unbeatable
- Alexander Albon: The Singapore Grand Prix procession actually helped me find a few ways to tweak my driving style
- Kvyat: Raikkonen tried to kill me in Singapore
- Christian Horner: I'm impressed by Ferrari's resurgence. Mercedes has been the benchmark for years, but now they're feeling what we've dealt with for ages in this new era because they just can't catch Ferrari
- Daniel Ricciardo: It would be perfect; I’d love to win a title with Red Bull. That didn't happen, so I came to Renault, but it isn't perfect here either. I'm still with Renault in 2020, but I'll decide my future in 2021. I still want that title more than anything.
- Vettel: I'm not as happy with the win as you might think
- Pierre Gasly: Getting those points in Singapore is a huge thanks to Toro Rosso
- Leclerc: Now I completely understand the strategist's calls during the Singapore race
- Max Verstappen: Singapore wasn't satisfying at all; we need to step it up and improve our pace
- Renault: Singapore was essentially a "damage control" exercise
- Nico Hulkenberg: I'm Happy we managed to grab something in Singapore
- Haas: Robert Kubica would be the perfect driver for our simulator
- Robert Kubica: I don't want to be just a simulator driver. I spent years preparing intensely to return to Formula 1, and I don't want to waste that just being locked in a simulator room for thousands of hours. I want to race, and maybe use the simulator occasionally. I've spent enough time in it; now I want to compete.

wow, I can honestly say this is easily the best Superhero movie ever made about a single hero. Hands down the best!

I watched it in 3D on my smartphone using a VR box, and it immediately became my favorite 3D film of all time.

Between the 3D effects and the visuals, it felt like I had actually stepped inside a comic book. For half the movie, I literally had chills because the 3D was just that incredible.

Honestly, does it even matter? Vettel made a mistake, the officials completely botched it, and they'll just have to deal with the fallout on their end. Meanwhile, Hamilton might as well go ahead and grab another win...

Print this out, it'll make some decent toilet paper...

From here on out, any attempt to save a driver's life or prevent a crash should be met with a penalty. Come on, stewards, just standardize the rules already so we can finally have some "fair" calls for once.

Oh, Charlie, they just won't let you rest in peace...

It’s an absolute disaster. I used to despise Ferrari; I actually used to cheer whenever they had a DNF. But today, sitting here in front of this tiny TV screen, I was honestly on the verge of tears because of the sheer stupidity of the FIA regarding Seba’s penalty.

This is just unbelievable. Seriously, go to hell.

Charlie would be turning in his grave right now.

Starting Grid:

https://i.redd.it/19za5fb5va331.jpg

A little breakdown of the start:

Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc might be able to hold onto those spots, though honestly, it all comes down to the timing of the launch. Valtteri Bottas and Pierre Gasly look like they'll pull away from Daniel Ricciardo pretty quickly. Max Verstappen finds himself stuck in a group of really aggressive drivers—there might be some contact there, but hopefully nothing serious—but I think Bottas and Gasly will break free within 10 or 15 laps.

GRO was clearly pretty disappointed after qualifying, so I wouldn't be surprised if he goes out way too aggressive and ends up bumping into someone. Kmag should be able to clear the Williams cars within 3 or 4 laps and will likely be ahead of RP by lap 8 or 9.

Mercedes seems unstoppable, honestly. Unless something totally unexpected happens, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas could pretty much call themselves winners right now.

The mid-field battle is always intense. McLaren has positioned themselves nicely as the 4th best team, sitting with nearly double the points of Racing Point. Then you have the group of them—Haas, Renault, Toro Rosso, and Alfa Romeo—all separated by just a few points. As for McLaren, they just need to maintain this pace, though Lando Norris needs to step it up a bit.

Circuit of the Americas isn't always known for putting on a show, so let's hope for some excitement here in Canada this year.

Quick updates ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix:

- The new paddock and garages, designed as a nod to the 1967 Expa legacy, are ready for the Grand Prix.
- Ferrari will be removing the Mission Winnow logo for the next two races.
- Mercedes should bring their first major upgrade to Montreal, with expectations of over 1000 horsepower.
- Toto Wolff is looking for a stronger performance from Valtteri Bottas in Montreal.
- Nicholas Latifi will be driving the first free practice session for Williams.
- Binotto: "We aren't giving up hope in Canada."
