Whose offer am I even supposed to be answering?
😁
Exactly, that’s precisely what I was getting at!
I honestly don't see any logical reason why a manager couldn't also be a competitor!
😁

A player acting as a referee? That doesn't fly anywhere else.
Fine, it flies here in our forum's championship, so let's see what this championship looks like year after year.

The quality of the championship has absolutely nothing to do with whether the manager is an active participant or not!
Comparing this to soccer is a total non-starter. In soccer, officiating happens live on the pitch, whereas management here relies on the long process of analyzing results after the race and applying the general regulations to settle disputes.
Dorian is spot on—managing a championship this way could easily become tedious for someone, or worse, tempt them to stir up drama through dishonest and unethical conduct just to break the monotony.
😁
Jason Campbell70 said:Absolutely.

Is there any competition out there where the same person competes and referees at the exact same time?

You don't even see that when kids are playing soccer in preschool.

And naturally, if I were to run, my rules would come with me.

That’s like playing a game of Texas Hold'em and insisting on a fifth "player" who is just there to deal the cards and log the scores. They’d certainly have a blast playing that way!
And frankly, that's nothing compared to the disaster you mentioned—imagine a manager competing against their own clone. That would be infinitely worse.

Since Max doesn't really have the drive to step up as the manager for the 2013 Reddit F1 championship, I honestly think Jason Campbell70 is our best bet. For the sake of the sport, we should probably just hold off on picking a manager until the season wraps up. That way, we can get a final word from Jason Campbell70. Most of the other people who stepped up to lead before haven't exactly been stellar, and we need the absolute best person for this championship, which is Jason Campbell70.

Matthew Young35: tried to take the reins but bailed before the season even started without setting clear rules.
Terry Carter2: managed the very first race and immediately showed he couldn't explain his calls, leaving the results looking totally messy.
maminho: stepped in a few times briefly, but it wasn't exactly a huge success, plus he's already busy running that other tournament.
asdfg5: basically a clone hiding behind an anonymous profile because they're scared of racer bias—which usually means the original person messed something up.

So, my plea is this: let's just wait until the end of the season. It might be worth the wait, and we don't really lose anything by being patient, but we could gain a lot if we pick right...

Quick question for the mods: what happens if asdfg5 gets picked as manager, but then halfway through next season it turns out they're just a clone of one of the other candidates? How would you guys handle that mess?

I'm with you on that—there's absolutely no reason to rush into this!

You’re twisting things a bit, but that’s how the rulebook lays it out. (Section 14.)

I’ll step up as host, provided we play by the rules I’ve laid out.
In my view, they’re solid rules—practical, enforceable, and straightforward.
Are they perfectly fair? Perhaps not... but then again, life isn't exactly fair, is it?
All I'm offering is blood, sweat, and tears... specifically for the trolls.

Maybe it really is time for some revolutionary changes in this championship.
😁
Matthew Young35 said:Here are the most critical points from my proposal that I would like others to incorporate into their own rules.

4. The final standings shall be announced by the championship host or someone specifically authorized by them.

6. Transcribing results is permitted.

7. If a player is dissatisfied, they may lodge a complaint with the host. If the host stands by their decision, the player must either accept the ruling or withdraw from the competition. However, if they can gather more than half of the competitors to support their grievance, the host shall be removed from their position.

9. The HOST and the MODERATORS are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the competition.

10. Rules are to be interpreted in good faith. Therefore, if anyone exploits a loophole to gain a scoring advantage or simply to troll for the sake of it, they will be ignored. Furthermore, moderators are encouraged to issue appropriate penalties in accordance with the site's anti-trolling policies.

Everything else is secondary.

I am in agreement with these proposals, and I suggest we leave the door open to refining the rules once a candidate is selected—provided, of course, that they agree to the terms.
Rules can always be polished, and it is far better to settle these details before the season kicks off.

Say we pushed it back to September 30, 2012.

Anyway, here’s a quick recap of who’s signed up so far:
Terry Carter2 - suggesting their own rules
darkmarlin16
Douglas Patel32 - suggesting their own rules

And if I remember correctly:
Jason Campbell70 and Matthew Young35
I'm just not sure what happened with their entries or if they actually want to be part of the poll or not.🤷

I’ve been thinking—am I actually eligible to run under the current rules?
Given how much the candidate regulations have been overhauled lately, we might run into a situation where nobody can agree on which set of rules to follow. That would effectively shut out potential contenders, and frankly, the pool of candidates is already shrinking by the day.
So, if there's a way to make it happen, I'm putting my name in the hat based on the 2012 rules, provided we clearly define a few key points within the handbook.

That could be it! Which one was I supposed to reply to? Not this one?
So, can I still get in on this one, or am I just out of luck now?

Following the guidelines set during the 2012 championship, the deadline for applications for the new director is fast approaching. Since I have absolutely no intention of letting this championship be scrapped while I still have a fighting chance at winning it, I am officially throwing my hat in the ring for a director who will ensure this year's season actually makes it to the finish line.
As far as I'm concerned, this application has nothing to do with my entry for 2013.
