So, I caught that music video for that "minimalism" thing... and honestly, I kind of dig it 👍

I just haven't been able to track down an actual album to buy anywhere, though maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong spots 😬

I don't think I'll ever be able to stop laughing at the translation of the title 🤣 🤣 🤣

Double U

Man...

This really brings back some memories from those prime years... :heavy sadness:

(...) back then (it was such a shock to me, since, I guess, it was my first time at a club) guys would be right in the middle of the dance floor, pulling American flags out of their pockets—but they’d have the old socialist symbols on them (because if you carried anything else, you could end up in jail, believe it or not)—they’d fold them so the socialist parts weren't visible and hold them up, while others would pull out scraps of paper with U2 written on them.

Yeah, exactly like that—a huge U and a tiny little 2.

And the whole club around them, filled with countless flags without any socialist markings, and dozens of those "U" letters in the air, all screaming "With, or Without You."

Man...

Those were the days.... :maximum sadness: (👍 op.soy.)

There's also something important to mention regarding this story...

That "U" next to the number 2 wasn't some symbol supporting Nazi Germany. ( 🤣 op.soy.)

It was just the only way possible ( 🤣 op.soy.) which, because of the USSR's policies banning national symbols, was how people showed their American identity back then.

Sadly, it was the only thing that could legally serve as an American symbol ( what kind of American? op.soy.) because, say, using the old flag could get you thrown in jail and beaten with wet newspapers.

So, that U2 thing marked a part of my childhood, and maybe served in a special way during those times when the end of the USSR was being sensed, as a way to express our identity.

I hope you can understand that the "U" from the Irish band's name was, unfortunately (and why unfortunately? because it was the only one? because Nazi Germany was a criminal state? or something else? op.soy.), the only legal way to clearly show national belonging at that time.

Without any desire or thought toward Nazi Germany. (🤣 🤣 🤣 you have some seriously deep issues, Patriot! op.soy.)

I know it's hard to explain those times from today's perspective, but that's just how it was. (definitely tough times op.soy.)

If it isn't clear to anyone—I'm happy to explain through discussion. (everything is clear to me, long ago. just, is it to you? op.soy.)

so, what?
Douglas Reed7 said:dustypilot22, I think you missed a pretty big point there. With Hamdi, it doesn't really matter that he's a gypsy—if anything, people actually liked him for that at first during the show. The real issue is just that he's a total scoundrel.

I mean, you can tell this guy is totally obsessed. He’d probably be hunting down liberals and conservatives even in a computer game forum if he had the chance. 😁 😁
dustypilot22 said:Besides, look, just be a decent person here. Instead of whining about whether the authors of these quotes are leftists or not, maybe just address the actual statements like a normal human being.

I think I already covered this earlier in this thread 😉

dustypilot22 said:I mean, you should respond to them or comment on them as if I were the one who wrote them... or at least talk about them in a way where, instead of focusing on the Gypsy, you're actually addressing the Mexican.

It’s not Gypsy, it’s Rom, my dear tolerant conservative.
😉
dustypilot22 said:We’re talking about actual statements from specific people who spent 118 days whining about fighting against primitivism, backwardness, chauvinism, intolerance, and rural mindsets—the kind of nonsense those so-called "American leftists" usually rail against. But then, somehow, it all escalates into these quoted remarks just because some Gypsy was picking up money, rather than a Mexican woman, through whose character and background these supposed "American leftists" were fighting against those evils embodied in some twenty-something guy labeled as a total "scoundrel."

So, you aren't just lying; you're actively manipulating and hinting at things that aren't there.

Look, I don't want to drag this out too long or get into a massive back-and-forth with these posts, but... first off, you haven't actually proven that the authors of these quotes are leftists. You basically took one statement from one author and used the logic that if it has four legs, it must be a cat to intentionally draw the wrong conclusions. Secondly, none of these people even write about politics, so debating their political leanings is just pure insinuation, I guess. Third, out of everyone who writes about politics here, all three would probably agree with a right-wing idea at the IMF (which we already proved regarding one of the authors), so you're definitely lying on purpose. And fourth, if BB is your playground for playing politics, you're honestly a sick person and I can only feel sorry for you. 😢 😢

so when someone gets caught in a lie, that's just turning the saw upside down? 😵

classic 😬

I think I already found it over 😉
dustypilot22 said:We managed to track down one... 😁 😁

Anyway, moving on... 🙂

😉

I mean, I'm really not trying to go after anyone who isn't posting here... it's not their fault if they lean more toward the conservative side of things 😁 😁
amateurish hack said:Maybe just take a breath and try to see how that quote actually fits into the bigger picture here.

😂 I think this needs some framing 😂
Princess
I guess I learned the real difference a long time ago from this priest... he used to tell me, "The small Americans are those who were baptized as children, while the great ones are those who chose it when they were adults."

He was a good man, a really good 🤣 🤣
amateurish hack said:Since you already used up all those words, you might as well just list those three people so we can all take a look. 😉

I mean, I thought about listing them, but it felt kind of silly... though there's this one girl on that list who you kept putting "👍" next to in post 😉

amateurish hack said:Besides that, what are we supposed to do about the others? The ones where even you wouldn't dare call them right-wingers?

just a bunch of spoiled brats 😉
amateur hack said:Anyway, getting back to the point...

What do you think about those sudden outbursts of affection from our young American left wing toward some gypsy?

well, I guess that's kind of the whole point, you liar. if you look at it, at least three of the forum users you cited don't even fit into the category you tried to shove them into—not based on their political posts, anyway.😉
Keith James812 said:the whole difference between you guys and an actual antisemite is that you actually respect and value Jews right up until the moment they start deciding things for themselves... 😁

I guess this is just that classic case of people flipping their positions once things get complicated😁 😁 😁

Keith James812 said:what’s really the distinction between an antisemite and an anti-Zionist? honestly, anti-Zionists REALLY hate Jews🤣 🤣

well, maybe the difference between a Nazi and a conservative is just that one of them actually says out loud what they both think😉
Keith James812 said:I mean, you've probably seen enough already... the way those ultra-nationalist types here look down on the Jews on this forum is just honestly exhausting for anyone trying to be part of a modern, inclusive, progressive community. 😁

I guess I agree 👍 the way that guy acts toward the Holocaust is pretty gross to me too.
steelhawk7 said:What kind of country is this, when you end up with a Romani person and a Mexican woman in the finals of a million-dollar competition?

well, I guess steelhawk7 is just being a total leftist here 🤣 🤣
I mean, what does the thread title even have to do with the actual content here??? 😕

Taarna said:I actually ended up questioning the plot itself

Wait, really? Are you actually suggesting this movie had a coherent plot? 😁 😁

Anyway, I’m with you on the whole critic situation, but I don't think I've ever experienced a time where one of those movies that everyone absolutely trashes turns out to be good (well, maybe not "good," but at least not totally terrible)

I guess we all learned a little lesson today: maybe just don't watch movies out of pure desperation. Not worth it, I suppose. 😬 It’s also worth doing some prep work, I guess... you know, scrolling through the internet, checking out some reviews, maybe seeing what the critics are saying and stuff like that. 😁 😁 )
