The coolest people of all time in Movies ·
Look, man, when you start calling someone a legend who spends 90% of their life stuck in some swampy mess in Florida, then maybe I'll decide to chime in 👍

I mean, you see, I guess only a truly cool person could actually write such an incredible book...

Or maybe they'd make some weird show about the sex life of slugs, or a documentary about some random flower in the middle of nowhere, past seven jungles and seven seas, near some tiny town that hasn't even seen color yet... that's just how it is, I suppose.👍

wearygardener13 said:So, I was wondering... is there some kind of specific order you're supposed to follow with these? Like, is there a certain cause-and-effect sequence where you have to watch them in a particular way, or can I just jump in wherever I feel like? I guess it probably doesn't matter much, but maybe it does. I'm not really sure.

I guess I’m just really missing Mr Lady. 😬

I haven't actually sat down to watch Lady yet, but I don't think Mr Lady and Oldboy really have anything to do with each other, unless you're looking at them through a similar thematic lens, I guess. Maybe the same goes for Lady, too. It feels like these movies aren't meant to be an intentional trilogy or anything... they're more like a specific phase in the director's career. Kind of like how Spielberg had that run with things like A. I., Minority, and Catch Me If You Can, maybe? Just a certain vibe during that era.

Since he doesn't have his own thread, I guess I'll just jump in here.

So, I watched it. It’s honestly a little masterpiece. I wouldn't say it tops Oldboy, though I probably shouldn't even compare them since they're part of that same trilogy thing. They feel different. It’s funny, but also brutal. It starts off feeling like some lighthearted comedy, then suddenly everything spirals into this tangled mess of violence that feels straight out of a Coen movie. Maybe because of that shift, it actually hits harder than Oldboy did for me. I don't know, maybe the title is just a bit off? Personally, I feel like "Eye for an Eye" (until there aren't any eyes left) would have fit better.

Anyway, Chan Wookie is definitely a new face to watch in Asian cinema—a total directorial Godzilla. 😁

Two down, one more to go. Lady is next...

haha, I mean, I guess I'm hoping it turns out at least as decent as the Dawn remake. It's hard to beat the originals, I know, but looking at the cast and the crew handling the effects and production... they seem like people with a whole bunch of solid movies under their belts. maybe.

I don't think there's much room for being optimistic here. Just three reasons, I guess.

First off, the movie is being directed by Steve Miner, who feels like a director without much of a signature style. He's older, maybe a bit washed up. At least Snyder was fresh enough and brave enough to bring some new energy to the whole genre. This older guy probably won't do that.

Second, the producer on this one is James Dudelson. That's the same guy who produced Day of the Dead: Contagium, which was basically a sequel to Romero's Day of the Dead. Honestly, that's one of the worst zombie movies ever made—just a mess of unfulfilled post-production promises and fake marketing hype. That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about his quality control.

Third, the actual plot of Day of the Dead just doesn't hold a candle to the earlier films. It’s the weakest part of the trilogy, narratively speaking. It isn't original enough to warrant a remake, and it lacks that brilliant deconstruction of society you see in the other Romero films. The only thing that might have been interesting would be making a movie based on the original script for Dawn, which Romero had to butcher because they ran out of money. But, I don't know, I doubt that's what's happening here...

I'm telling you, I just don't see any reason to be optimistic.

ironcyclist78 said:Then there’s those little things, just tiny details that are supposed to make the whole story better. Like... The Four Brothers walk into a disco, they barely even describe what kind of person they're looking for, and then suddenly they spot them right away in the crowd?! Or when the bad guy humiliates his henchman (or whatever he was called) by making him sit with the kids. I mean, sure, it's a funny moment in the movie, but what's the point? In terms of the plot, that scene feels totally unnecessary; it doesn't really explain anything.

it actually explains quite a bit, I think. 🙂

it sort of sets up the twist at the end, which might feel a bit unfinished if you didn't have that scene earlier. 🙂

I've been trying to track down Lady Vengeance for a while now... and I'm really hoping it's at least half as good as Oldboy... because if Oldboy happens to be the absolute worst of the trilogy, then this one seriously has to be a masterpiece
