Robert Wiene’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari...

I mean, without that movie, we probably wouldn't have film noir, or Tim Burton, or even half the stuff like this 😁 😁 😁

The Birth of a Nation, Citizen Kane, Triumph of the Will, Moonwalk, how the French New Wave kicked off (kind of like Godard's intro style), Star Wars (no joke)...

I'm with you on this one.

Maybe I could make it even simpler, if I were being a total geek about it:

1.) The Birth of a Nation
2.) Citizen Kane
3.) Star Wars
Francis Ford Coppola's "Conversations"

I don't know what I ate that day, but man, that movie was just... pretty dull
What would you rather watch for Christmas? in Movies ·
"Miracle on 34th Street" is hands down the best Christmas movie ever made!!! 🙏 🙏

it just never gets old, no matter how many times I see it

Steven Ramirez3 said:I don't know, I kind of disagree with that take, especially if you think about Romero's whole "they are us" philosophy. To me, they feel more like just... mindless masses.

I mean, I guess it's true that every movie carries the weight of its own era, right?

Like, at first, zombies seem like just monsters, but as the movie goes on, you start to see they have their own motives—kind of like how terrorism can have multiple layers to it. They represent something foreign and unknown, maybe like a different culture, and then there's that whole thing with them swarming the city (like an immigrant surge, I suppose?) and ultimately tearing down the urban structure and social order... which feels like anarchy and total collapse...

even though, deep down, the film is pretty much a critique of communism 😉

I don't know, I guess I always saw them more like... terrorists.

Yeah, 28 days is solid... it just feels like it borrows quite a bit from that whole Romero trilogy, you know? 😁

The whole setup where they barricade themselves in that apartment (Night), then wandering through that grocery store (Dawn), and finishing off with those frantic soldiers (Day)... it's all there.

hey but they aren't actually zombies, they're just infected!... 😁 😁

I don't really get why Boyle and Garland won't just admit it... 🙄

I thought those penguins were absolutely wild. I really loved that whole militant approach they take to solving problems, plus the way the action scenes were directed with such mathematical precision 😁 😁 though, I haven't actually sat down to watch Madagascar yet, so I can't say if they're any better or worse over there

As for the translation, I don't hold it against them too much. The whole movie is just packed with these witty wordplay jokes that are basically impossible to translate into American English—like how they play with words like "dumb" or puns involving "hair" and "hare" and stuff like that.

Just finished watching it tonight

It’s honestly great 👍

Jerry is already a legend to me, but he really shines in this one 🙂 No dialogue, no over-the-top pantomime, just those eyes and that subtle expression... it hits you right in the feels...

The whole vibe of the movie is totally gothic horror, though. It kind of reminds me of those old classic Hammer movies, or maybe even some high-budget blockbusters like Van Helsing when they try to lean into those cliché spooky vibes...

I was actually wondering if Tim Burton saw this too (since his wife is one of the voice actors) and, well, if he got a little excited during certain scenes that felt like they were made just for him 😁 😁 😁

it's fine though, I'll probably just stumble upon it while poking around online, but if you happen to spot anything, maybe think of this thread and drop a link here 🙂

Jose Miller17 said:Seriously guys, is there any way to get these Americans to chill out? ...this is honestly just crossing every line of good taste...👎

I mean, I'm kind of worried we might be doomed... in a few years, history books might just start and end with Americans😢

It sort of reminds me of that old story about filming three... apparently they wanted to make it back in the early 90s, but some producer wasn't really feeling the idea of having a movie full of Greeks without a single American in the cast...🤣

Donna Nelson23 said:Apparently, Atkinson is working on a new Blackadder set in the 60s. I think I saw something about that other American project on IMDb too... I might have to dig around a bit more to find the exact link...

I heard some rumors about a fifth season, too. If you happen to find anything regarding that Steve Martin version, maybe drop a link? I'm kind of curious to see how they'd even pull that off.

Wait, what???!!!!! 😲 😱 😱

Please tell me you're just kidding around...

Where on earth did you hear that? I mean, I guess I like Steve Martin and all, but this feels like sacrilege... especially since we still have the legend Atkinson out there... 👎
