It’s kind of funny, I guess... how that one specific thing was actually supposed to be the thing that saved everything. 😁 😁
I mean, like what Grapefruit said, they just weren't putting enough movies out there. I guess the rule of thumb is more about having that one massive blockbuster that covers all the costs of the bigger flops... and then those movies that just break even or make a few extra million over their budget? Those are the ones that actually bring in the profit, I suppose.

Yeah, but I mean, we really shouldn't overlook the sheer value of the franchise itself. I'm pretty sure Shrek probably pulled in way more money from stuff like toys, video games, throw pillows, t-shirts, and all that other random junk than it ever did at the actual box office. I guess that's just how it works sometimes.
That’s why I keep saying they really needed someone like George Lucas in their corner—someone with that kind of seasoned experience who could have turned all of this into a total gold mine. But, I guess like you mentioned, he basically had to learn from his own mistakes the hard way, which is probably the best way to do it, I suppose. Honestly, who even needs a big studio anymore? You can just fund a movie with your own cash and then go find some sucker to handle the distribution. 😁 😁
