Eye exam eye chart questions in Health ·
When you walk into the doctor's office, take a quick look around—keep an eye out for those rare details that most people just overlook...

Thanks, Susan Martin24!
I think I’m starting to wrap my head around this.
But I’m still leaning toward what seems most practical—having a little glass of wine now and then. People swear by its health benefits, right? Or, I could just skip the alcohol entirely to avoid any issues with H. pylori... but then I'd just be trading one set of problems for another. What do you guys think?

I only deal with these issues every once in a while, so I’m trying to wrap my head around some of the specifics.
Can you walk me through that whole thing about peanuts and red wine?
I tend to snack on about an ounce of peanuts most days. I haven't heard anyone suggest they're bad for this...
Then there's the advice to have a little red wine every day to help with various health issues.
I usually have somewhere between an ounce and two and a half ounces daily.
So, we're talking less than a standard shot.
Also, regarding that Hemophilin ointment—is that something you just pick up at a CVS, or do you have to find a herbalist or something?
It’s entirely possible we're looking at some kind of allergy here...

If any of the people on this forum start peddling "miracle" pills at some ridiculous markup,

How often do guys actually shower? in Health ·
magic blue said:What would happen? Nothing. I wash my two dogs with regular shampoo all the time and they’re still alive, healthy, and smelling great.👍

Sure—but if you let those dogs live out in the wild with their coats stripped bare like that, they'd be in serious trouble. Once that first cold snap hits, they'll be shivering and sick because they've lost all that natural oil protection...
They aren't wild animals anymore; they're domestic pets.

If you actually dropped any of them out in the wilderness, they wouldn't last a single month.
How often do guys actually shower? in Health ·
This might sound like a pretty stupid question at first glance...
BUT
Human beings lived out most of their entire history without ever touching soap—let alone shampoo.
We’ve only been washing ourselves for a tiny fraction of our existence; we’re talking maybe the last 1% of our timeline at most.
The human race underwent its most massive evolutionary leaps during an era when detergents didn't even exist.
And yet, the biggest population explosion happened right around the time soap became a staple.

Does anyone actually know what would happen if we gave a polar bear a bath—according to human standards?
Or what the consequences would be if we started scrubbing individual species, or even entire types of animals, with shampoo?
Sinus ultrasound: What to expect? in Health ·
Ultrasound is essentially a non-invasive, resonant technique.
So look, there’s nothing to fear—you have every right to ask exactly how the procedure works before you decide whether to go through with it or pass... and obviously, you'll have to sign a consent form agreeing to the terms.
That's the standard everywhere in the US, and as for whether things work the same way here at home, well, you'll just have to find out and let us know.
Gelatin and the risk of BSE in Health ·
Whether they realize it or not, the media is essentially acting as a mouthpiece for Big Pharma—it’s all about driving up those prescription numbers...
As for the gelatin found in so many products—some brands disclose it, others don't—it undergoes chemical and thermal processing, so logically speaking, it shouldn't pose a risk.
If there's a lab tech, a chemist, or a biologist in the thread, I'd love for you to weigh in and give us some actual clarity on this.

That’s what you get when your back starts acting up—but if you want to talk about something actually serious... just do a little research first.
Have you guys gotten your flu shots yet? in Health ·
Thanks to the ladies for weighing in.
🙂

Let's see if we can actually nail down an answer here—because I’m still scratching my head over this one.
Is it actually better to build immunity by just catching the flu naturally? Apparently, that kind of immunity is supposedly "stronger" and sticks with you for two or three years.
OR is it smarter to just get the shot every single year since that immunity is allegedly weaker and only lasts one season?

My second dilemma is whether the flu actually strengthens the body—meaning the immune system—or if it just wrecks it, leaving you more vulnerable to getting sick later.
To put it simply: should I get vaccinated or not?
OR should I just catch the flu and skip the shot?
Have you guys gotten your flu shots yet? in Health ·
Here’s something I’ve been chewing on—and honestly, I’m not even sure if anyone actually has the answer to this.
If I, for instance, recover from a standard seasonal flu and build up some sort of immunity—which usually sticks for maybe two or three years—and then I end up in close proximity to someone carrying avian flu, does that previous immunity offer any real protection? Is it a 100% shield, some random percentage, or is it completely irrelevant because we’re talking about an entirely different strain altogether?
Oh, I almost forgot—whatever you do, don't scratch or rub at it... anything like that—because it just ends up fueling the allergic reaction even more.
It’s highly probable you’re dealing with an allergic reaction to either your shampoo or your moisturizer.
Try switching up your shower routine—swap out whatever you've been using for a medical-grade cleanser or something completely pH-neutral. If you've been relying on liquid body wash until now, try a bar soap instead, or vice versa.
And as for creams? Cut them out entirely for a while.
It could also be a reaction to the water itself—well, not the water, but maybe the chlorine or some other chemical additive...
Or perhaps it's the laundry detergent you're using on your towels and linens.
Even a specific perfume, a deodorant, your clothes... the list goes on.
Give yourself a little credit here and actually sit down to analyze what's changed.
