Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean in Movies ·
gnn - I wouldn't say it was just mediocre...

Look, the movie is a parody, so by definition, Johnny Depp's role is a parody too. And he nails it. All those feminine gestures and that awkwardness? It’s the perfect "anti-pirate" vibe. You've got a point about Monkey Island, but honestly, I see that as a win.

Johnny Depp is just one of those actors who can boost any movie's ratings just by showing up...

It’s legitimately great. I’ve seen it twice now and laughed my head off both times.

She recognizes where science hits a wall, but she hasn't let that kill her confidence or her optimism. She believes, but it isn't about believing in God; it's about believing in herself, in human potential, and in other intelligent beings.
That's the fundamental difference between being religious in a theistic sense and having spirituality as a core part of being human. 🙂

You're right. 👍

Nothing much happens. Since she's a scientist, she basically has to accept that it didn't happen—it’s all just a matter of faith because there isn't any hard evidence.

Meanwhile, James Woods knows she's telling the truth because her camera caught everything—well, nothing. It just recorded 18 hours of absolutely nothing, just like Jodie claimed happened while she was out there.

That’s pretty much it. Jodie just goes back to listening to the sounds of space...

It’s a shame they wasted such a good concept.

Personally, I think Jodie Foster is an excellent actress, even if she overacts a bit in this one. Matthew McConaughey is solid, Tom Skerritt is fine as usual, and James Woods is just doing his classic thing—being a total smart-ass.

The movie lacks actual grit and fails to drive its point home. It should have leaned harder into those heavy moral and religious questions instead of settling for two-dimensional tropes like cult demonstrations and psycho-religious fanatics.

One more thing: any sci-fi movie that throws advanced tech at you without actually explaining how it works is worthless.

It wasn't really meant for me, but here we go...

even my parents have more modern tastes in music than you do

which just goes to show that my great-grandparents probably had more contemporary musical tastes than I do, considering I spend my time listening to Mozart...🙄

😕 What about a third one? 😁 Just wanted to let you know there's a third part coming. Saw a teaser on TV, so it's definitely happening.👍

Is this your way of telling me you've never even seen Blazing Saddles? Is that the ultimate insult here?

Debbie Harry back in her prime was something else—that unbeatable mix of a sweet, sexy tone and pure raw power.

Kevin Chavez3 said:In my book, cult bands are the ones that never hit massive mainstream success, but to the small group of people who actually get them, they’re more important than Jesus. Think The Velvet Underground, Stooges, MC5, The Birthday Party, Gang of Four, Nomeansno, and so on.

That's one way to look at it.

So does that include Tom Waits? Fine, he isn't a band, but he has to play with someone, for God's sake...

I mean, a band is only truly cult if people actually start treating them like a religion. To me, Nirvana is the perfect example—they’re the kind of band that makes you want to get into a bar fight just because you love them so much.

Whoa! (And no, I don't mean glue...)

That’s maybe one smart take out of roughly 900 posts you've made.😁 😁 ...give or take.

I agree, The Beatles are the legends. But if we're talking "cult status"? Throw in The Clash, Nirvana, RATM, Pearl Jam, or The Doors...
