Even this is off-limits now... in Health ·
I have to stay away from high-glycemic foods because of my PCOS issues.
It’s pretty much certain I’ve developed insulin resistance—which, let's be honest, seems to be the standard experience for most women dealing with this.
I won't lie, the transition was rough at first, but I’ve finally adjusted. Honestly? I actually feel way better now. My energy levels are through the roof and I don't deal with those massive afternoon crashes anymore. 😍
What I'm trying to say is... you can adapt to pretty much anything if you have to.

To be totally blunt, I've never heard of anyone claiming sweets are bad specifically for Candida? Like, okay, I get the whole milk thing—my body doesn't exactly love it either—but I still put a splash in my coffee or have some cheese, just not in huge amounts, and I'm fine.
But seriously, do you really have to CUT EVERYTHING OUT completely to see results, or is it enough to just cut back on the portions?
Are vegetarians actually smarter? in Psychology ·
I’m telling you, bodybuilders literally lose their minds right before they step on stage because they switch to a strictly protein-only diet.
Your brain actually needs glucose to function properly, but these guys just refuse to take any in.

And I’m not just guessing here—a close friend of mine who does competitive fitness told me herself. She’s skipping her next competition in October because she has to focus on her finals at NYU. 😁She says if she cuts out grains and carbs while trying to pass exams, everything just goes straight to hell.

So, honestly, there might actually be some truth to that whole idea about vegetarian intelligence. 😁

Anyway, coming at you from the meat-eater side of things—please don't come for me. 😁
Adam Ross4 said:Sure, maybe... but I'm talking about those self-proclaimed "gurus" who just prey on people and do whatever it takes to exploit them...

they’re always "blackmailing" their followers by dangling enlightenment in front of them like some kind of carrot... 😉

Hmm, yeah... that's basically a bonding tactic used to keep people trapped.
Because, honestly, almost every "follower" eventually reaches a point where they want to walk away. If a "guru" starts using every dirty trick in the book to hold onto them, then you know exactly what kind of situation you're dealing with.
rowdydrifter7 said:It's all just one single thing, because it’s only one person stepping forward, not all of them at once!

Look, there are plenty of them, but you always just PICK one.
Adam Ross4 said:I'm not really getting into whether karma actually exists or if there’s even such a thing as cause and effect... ☕

But let's just say they do. If that's the case, then obviously, using our own flawed logic, we could never actually pinpoint a primary cause for anything, because everything is just way too damn complex.

So, I guess that's where the spiritual guru and their supposed enlightenment come into play... since they’re supposedly enlightened and somehow grasp all those causes and consequences 🙄

Which means, basically, you should just listen to them and nobody else. 😬

But look at this...
What you aren't going to accept—you won't. What you want to believe—you will.
The guru isn't there to enlighten YOU—they’re just a path you happen to step on while you're out there trying to enlighten yourself (or whatever term we want to use here—discover, develop, etc.).
rowdydrifter7 said:Religion is basically just shackles—exactly what you're getting at. It’s all just nonsense designed for sheep who can't stand on their own two feet, so they need some shepherd to hold their hand and tell them what to do. And even then, it's always wrong, because everyone's journey is totally unique...

👍
And honestly, I don't think there's just one single PATH; I mean, there are multiple, distinct PATHS.
So where does religion even fit into that? 😉
Emotional Intelligence: A blessing or a curse? in Psychology ·
Honestly, you’re just being (hyper)sensitive. 😉
I mean, I get it, sometimes that isn't easy either, I guess.

Look, it isn't really a huge deal if some random person tells you 🙂
that stuff. The real issue starts when it feels like everyone else is saying 😁
the exact same thing.

I mean, she probably wouldn't have looked as good, I guess, but she’d definitely be a better smoker.😬

Yeah, I mean, let's be real—people definitely react way differently to you when you actually put some effort into your look. 👍

Attractive people definitely find it easier when they're out in public, so things tend to flow better for them because
they don't deal with the same level of insecurity, which makes them feel more free, whereas for everyone else, it’s usually the opposite..
but honestly, it all comes down to how you carry yourself. If you can just project
that positive vibe, people will accept you, and life just becomes
a whole lot smoother..

Oh, please. They have plenty of complexes too. Beautifully crafted ones. People who are beautiful AND smart? Or beautiful, smart, AND talented? Yeah, they've got those issues in spades, unfortunately.

The root of an insecurity is way more complicated than just being "unattractive."
That said, I guess there's probably a higher chance of running into someone insecure among the unattractive crowd than among the beauties, so I suppose that might give the good-looking folks a slight edge.
As for beauty being relative—sure, it's subjective, but let's not lie to ourselves; there are certain universal standards. If someone looks like they were assembled from ten different people and their very presence is unsettling, it's hard to argue that beauty is purely a matter of opinion.

Thinking about it, the most successful people I know are the ones with actual confidence (at least, speaking from my own experience), and in that group, you'll find both the ugly and the gorgeous. Self-confidence is driven by a million things—mostly your environment or some random circumstance, but a huge chunk of it is just who you are as an individual.

It’s not necessarily just about being physically beautiful, but let’s be real—it’s definitely easier if you’re generally more attractive in one way or another.

What kind of evil are you? 🤣

I don’t have anything against shorter guys, really, I don't... but I just can't shake this thought that she might actually snap them in half if they ever sat on her lap. 😬
I mean, honestly? They really ought to be carrying at least another 60 or 70 pounds if they want to stand a chance. It’s just common sense, really. 👍
Look, I know I’m probably losing my mind here, but honestly? Here we go. 😍

I’ve been sitting at 240 lbs at 6'7" for a year now, and honestly, even if I start training to get back down to my baseline weight, my clothes are already going to be way too tight...
All that nonsense about BMI and body mass indexes is just total garbage.

The BMI scale is useless for really tall people.😉
And let's be real—any guy under 220 lbs isn't even worth mentioning anyway.😍
Kimberly Davis52 said:Look, I get it, but I feel like people just treat this stuff like some sort of rough average. To be honest, I don't know a single soul who actually sits down and calculates their basal metabolic rate, then adds in ten minutes of walking to the bus stop, plus sitting time, plus standing time, plus watching TV, plus vacuuming... all that junk.
so they just roughly estimate how much they need to eat.

Honestly, anyone who’s maintained a healthy weight for most of their life and actually listens to what their body is telling them doesn't need to do any of that math. And frankly, that's how it should be.

On the flip side, though, I guess it’s a useful tool for people who have a messed up relationship with food—you know, those who can't tell the difference between actual hunger and just being bored, or people who barely move at all. Either way, it’s definitely better than following those insane fad diets or just starving yourself.🙂
Chris Morgan67 said:I don't know, placidfox55, I haven't really noticed Americans being obsessed with soda. Most people here are way more into coffee. Honestly, only complete idiots would actually believe that some mass-produced industrial juice is the same thing as eating fresh fruit.

Personally, I barely touch the stuff, and I absolutely loathe Coke, 👎
but let's be real: it's just a massive pile of empty calories.
And the truth is, we've been bombarded by advertisements for decades to the point where we've started viewing certain junk foods as a total MUST.
But why act surprised? 😁 We're basically just reinventing the wheel here. 😁
Kimberly Davis52 said:What exactly are you talking about here? Like, the energy needed just to keep your blood pumping through your veins and to breathe and stuff? Because if we're looking at 1,300 calories, I'm pretty sure a teenage girl needs way more than that. 😁 😁 😁 I think I saw some charts mentioning 1,800 somewhere, but honestly, I can't be bothered to go look up those nutrition tables right now.

Look, calorie needs aren't one-size-fits-all; they depend entirely on your gender, height, and weight.

Look, I don't actually have those issues—if anything, it's the opposite. I've got a fast metabolism, I'm 19, standing 5'9" and weighing about 135 lbs—used to be 138... I'm definitely not exactly "overweight."
Buddy, if you want my honest advice: eat as much as you can, but be smart about it.
Cut out the soda and all that junk food... just go buy yourself some decent fruit and vegetables, stick to that, and get some physical activity in. Go chop some wood for some extra work, or just head out for a run somewhere in the countryside to get a breath of fresh autumn air...
I'm not joking; I really hope you don't take this as sarcasm...

As far as diet goes, I don't know—you've got hundreds of forums (which are the best sources, IMO), then books, the internet, friends...

From what I can tell, you're eating pretty unhealthy... For breakfast, maybe crush some cereal (I don't know if they make you gain weight, you should look into it)... or just grab an apple. For lunch, eat something cooked. If you have a garden, great, plant some veggies; if not, let me know, we have a garden and some experience with it... just wash your produce thoroughly. I've spent a ton of time digging through books and found a MOUNTAIN of info. You can find old books at used bookstores for dirt cheap.

Regarding vegetables—whether you like them or not—just try them... but don't boil them to death; steam them nicely so they actually keep all their nutrients.

For dinner (this is what I make often), I'll grate an apple and a carrot, squeeze an orange, and mix it all together with some grain "flour" I make myself.
Take some rice (keep the bran), rinse it in hot water to get rid of the transport stuff and whatever... grind it in a home mill, but not into fine flour—more like small granules. Add some almonds or something to that. Wheat is incredibly healthy. And if you want, you can drizzle a little honey over it and eat.
My sister gives me looks whenever she sees me eating this... but nope, I love it. Once you get used to the taste, it's great, even though carrots aren't really my thing, I can manage. Either way, it's INCOMPARABLE to something like processed deli meats or sausages. Gross!

If you want me to help you out somehow, feel free to shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to.

You two just need to swap menus.🙏 😁
You aren't exactly going to get fat off carrots and wheat.😉

Unless you're vegan, then I guess it's fine.🙂

He was seeing a speech therapist since he was just a little kid and eventually worked through 😉it all

But honestly, I guess I find it kind of cute. 😉
