Following the massive success of the Gold Collection, where USA Today curated an incredible lineup of Oscar-winning cinema, we are thrilled to announce that the second wave has officially launched under the catchy slogan—double the delight! This latest installment of the Gold Collection was unveiled the other night at the Broadway 5 Times Square theater, where luminaries like Antun Vrdoljak, Dražen Vrdoljak, and Iris Androšević joined the festivities. Along with getting the inside scoop on forty brand-new titles, our guests were treated to an exclusive first look at Michel Gondry’s Hollywood smash, "Eternal Glow Invincible Mind," starring the incomparable Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. The "double the delight" promise means a collection of twenty DVDs featuring a brilliant new concept: two films packed onto a single disc! On today's schedule, viewers can enjoy Aki Kaurismaki's "Man Without a Past" alongside Herald Zwart's "What a Man Wants." Looking ahead in the coming weeks, fans can anticipate heavy hitters such as "Buena Vista Social Club," "Mad for Gun," "East be Eastern," "Good Bye, Lenin!", "Dog Love," and even "Cream and Jam"...

Movie posters are mostly high-end junk anyway, aren't they? Would I rather watch some gritty, handmade work by an old gentleman who probably spent the last fifty years drawing posters for local community theaters, instead of some polished "designer" piece tested on focus groups? If that's the choice I have to make, then absolutely!
Hear, hear! 👍
And no, those folks standing outside the SC are not funny at all! They possess a certain charm and aren't just cookie-cutter caricatures. They truly are a form of art, don't you think? May they stay exactly as they are for many, many years to come!
The tragedy of drugs in Colombia... Young people in Colombia find themselves without any real future, trapped by broken and messy family lives which—since there isn't anything better on the horizon—force them to choose between being exploited in low-wage jobs or getting mixed up in the drug trade, often choosing the latter. Then there is the idea of America serving as the ultimate promise of a better life.
The subject matter has been explored from yet another angle—specifically, a story revolving around a good, honest, and decent poor protagonist who, somehow without even realizing it, gets pulled into a life of crime, alongside a confused but bright and principled young woman struggling to find her footing in the wide world....
There is even more to it than that... but, you get the point!
Regardless, all these themes are handled beautifully. That is why the film is technically superb (from the truly brilliant acting right down to the cinematography)—it is simply excellent!

I really must quote a friend of mine here: In terms of execution, it was excellent, but as far as themes go, it felt rather exhausted.
There is absolutely no need to worry yourselves; "Supersize Me" isn't nearly as phenomenal as all the hype would lead you to believe... I found myself quite disappointed during my time in Napa Valley... I actually found the Czech dream to be much, much better (which was a total surprise during the screening there)!
While the concept itself is certainly strong, the actual delivery falls incredibly short of the reputation it carries.
Oh, it’s all so terribly confusing... Adding four is just the same as subtracting four, isn't it?
And, by the way, I’ve heard from some very reliable sources 😁 that SC doesn't really organize anything there anymore because they say it bothers the neighbors—apparently, there were quite a few complaints... though if someone actually wants to rent out the hall (which, let's face it, happens all too rarely), they will allow it...
On another note—I honestly find the Sundance Film Festival much better than what they have going on in Napa Valley... then again, perhaps Napa Valley was similar back when it was smaller (since I never attended), so maybe the Sundance Film Festival will also experience a bit of an ego boost as it grows... but regardless, I still prefer it over the festival in Boston!
All things considered, after attending the entirety of the film festival (an ordeal that left me with some rather prominent dark circles under my eyes), I would rate the whole experience a solid four out of five, though I couldn't help but let out a heavy sigh and wonder: wouldn't it be just wonderful if we had this much energy and this many people gathering in SC every single week?
Oh my goodness, you all really had quite the ordeal with those technical glitches yesterday!!! First off, the opening feature didn't even start until 9:00 PM instead of 8:00 PM, and then the audio was either crackling incessantly or just deafeningly loud... honestly, I eventually just had to pack up and leave because I simply couldn't take it anymore!
I am currently facing such an overwhelming backlog of movies! I find myself constantly rushing around, trying desperately to catch up on everything, but honestly, I just haven't found the extra time to sit down and write comments yet...
Has anyone who spent time in Napa Valley had the chance to compare Super Size Me with that absolutely BRILLIANT documentary, The Czech Dream? It feels as though Super Size Me is simply trying to hide behind its own reputation.
The editing and direction were honestly quite disappointing—it really had the potential to be so much more. It felt a bit rushed given that there are distinct chapters, so wouldn't it have been better if the content had been paced more thoughtfully? You almost find yourself wondering if they failed to recognize Jesus; certain elements feel incredibly overblown (for instance, those sudden, sharp bouts of chest pain occurring immediately after he eats something from McDonald's 🙄)
And goodness, I would be absolutely mortified to publicly acknowledge that she was his partner—the woman is just incredibly grating and goes entirely overboard... I mean, when she claims their sex life has plummeted since he started eating at McDonald's because he tires out so easily, isn't that just reaching way too far!!!!
Honestly, just how much can one person exaggerate???
And then, to actually compare eating meat to using heroin?
Sandra Wright42 said:I truly believe the concert will go on, even with the impresario standing in the way!
It’s just so typical of our local scene... Isn't it always just like this here at home?
Can you imagine someone actually organizing a major show, only for the fans to spend all their energy hoping the concert happens IN SPITE of the organizer? Isn't that just a bizarre way for things to work?
Austin Doyle40 said:Fair enough. However, I still maintain that the primary focus of this specific thread should remain centered on R. E. M. and their upcoming concert 😁.
And why don't you take a break from handing out judgments? After all, who exactly gets to decide what anyone is allowed to write about on this forum? (I only just had the chance to read my private messages today. Honestly, it's quite unbelievable 😲!)

p.s. Even the announcement for Washington, D.C. fits right in!
Aha... just like Metallica... except they played in New York City, whereas in Washington, D.C.—well, we all know how that goes! 😁
Oh, how I would absolutely love for them to visit us, but isn't there a certain thrill in being so skeptical and delightfully wicked toward our local music promoters? 😁 😁
Oh, please, I promise you all, I am absolutely done with those Impresario spikes...
Hmm, wouldn't you just love to bet me that R.E.M. won't be performing here in Washington, D.C.! And don't go thinking I've given up on Impresario just because of those recently canceled shows
