Zorba the Greek hasn't been active there for quite some time now!

By the way, did AJ ever contribute to this forum, or was he strictly posting on the Vipov site? I can't quite remember...

Laura Gonzalez44 said:🤣 Oh my goodness, isn't it just absolutely hilarious how people feel the need to constantly clarify that they listen to everything, provided it’s anything but country music? It is truly laughable! As if admitting an interest in mainstream country were some sort of social catastrophe. 😂

The moment someone goes out of their way to claim they have an all-encompassing taste in music—well, I find myself becoming quite skeptical
Nicole Baker said:Personally, I can't imagine spending all my disposable income, my weekends, or my entire social life revolving around music with someone who simply doesn't care about it, or worse, someone who has terrible taste... it just wouldn't work for me. 😁

Well, that is precisely why I am asking!

It isn't that there is some specific drama unfolding in my private life right now; rather, I find myself deep in contemplation regarding this matter.

Music is such a fundamental pillar of my existence, and don't you just love that feeling when you click with someone and realize they listen to the same obscure indie bands as you do?

But what on earth happens when you meet someone who is absolutely perfect in every single way, yet their playlist is nothing but mainstream R&B?

Every single one of my outings revolves around live music because I am constantly traveling to catch shows, and I truly care about the atmosphere and the soundtrack of whatever venue I'm in. I live for discussing music, getting lost in the sound, hunting for rare vinyl, and even flying across the country just to see a band perform... it is just part of who I am.
So,
what happens when the person who holds your heart absolutely adores the kind of music that you can't even stand to listen to? Is that really a dealbreaker for you, or do you simply not view someone as a potential partner if you don't frequent the same spots and share the same playlist?

Imagine this: he prefers those upscale, trendy Manhattan lounges, while she’s strictly about the underground indie scene? Or perhaps it's the other way around?

Could you truly be head over heels for someone who refuses to attend a single concert with you because their musical tastes are worlds apart? Would you suffer through a relationship where you can't even discuss music, even though you're dying to, or find yourselves rarely going out together because they're busy dancing to R&B tracks while you can't help but roll your eyes?

Or is it simply impossible for you to see someone as a romantic prospect if they don't appreciate the same melodies that move your soul?

But then again, you weren't the one directing the film, were you? Or perhaps you were the one putting the whole program together? Or... are we pretending you're actually Steven Spielberg?😁

Look, she mentioned it was a drawback for the festival—maybe she phrased it a bit clumsily, or maybe she truly feels that way. So what? I don't believe such a casual remark warrants all this intense energy from you, as if you need to launch into a grand lecture about how absolutely unacceptable her comment was and how she simply dared to...
just let it go!

And regarding the criticism... when you take on a role in the public eye, shouldn't you be prepared to handle public scrutiny? People are always going to have something to say, regardless of what they think...

ruggedmarlin15 said:That is simply because you agreed to such a deal in the first place! Just because you did doesn't mean that money actually turned a profit for the festival.

ruggedmarlin15

Well, I agreed to the deal, and since I am paying for my ticket, I fully expect decent picture quality, clear sound, and working subtitles!

I have absolutely no intention of getting dragged into a debate about whether a movie is depressing or not, because I don't categorize films that way, and I honestly have no complaints regarding this year's Sundance Film Festival lineup.
(However, if I had attended a screening where the subtitles were missing entirely, wouldn't I be perfectly entitled to complain? After all, I paid for my seat, which makes me a customer, and isn't a customer always right?

It really shouldn't matter whether the ticket sales actually generated a profit for the festival or not!
The point is—if I shell out my own $8.25 for a ticket—I expect to receive an adequate technical presentation in return, rather than having to thank my lucky stars and the heavens just because the festival staff graciously allowed me to hand over my $8.25 to witness some "elevated" screening, regardless of how it actually looks or sounds!

I haven't been following your back-and-forth beyond your last reply, so I am not quite sure how your argument is evolving, but I simply wanted to point out that people who pay for tickets are customers, and they have every right to speak up if something goes wrong (and I am certainly not talking about the mood of the film, but rather whether the technical execution was acceptable)!

If I pay my 4 dollars and get a stale piece of bread, I am going to grumble! If I pay my $8.25 and get—heaven forbid!—a foreign film with the wrong subtitles, a thirty-minute delay in the start time, or audio that keeps cutting out, then surely I have the right to complain, regardless of whether the festival is operating in the red or the black!

Whether the festival is making money or losing money is none of my business, just as I would complain about stale bread whether that local bakery was turning a profit or not!

And please, ruggedmarlin15, do not take everything so personally, pleeeeease!

Geez, the girl was just saying she didn't enjoy the movie!
Who on earth are you trying to defend now? Whether someone likes a film or not is purely subjective, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the organization of the festival or anything else!

I have been to Napa Valley many times, and I have seen wonderful films, and I have also seen films that I thought were terrible!
And according to you, I wouldn't even have the right to say a film was bad for me?!?!?

We are talking about TASTE here! Hey, TASTE! There is no logical ARGUMENTATION available for me to provide to support such a claim!

So what if it didn't appeal to me, or if it felt too depressing for the girl in question?
What does that have to do with the festival organization in the first place? She merely offered a very benevolent and innocent suggestion that perhaps—just maybe (note the conditional!)—the programming could be curated so that two films screened at the same time aren't both relentlessly gloomy.
It doesn't matter what my opinion is, but she was simply making a kind suggestion, yet you attacked her as if she had personally insulted you by implying you hadn't done a good job working for the festival!

If I were to say that I didn't like the color of the seats in the theater, would you attack me too? Would you tell me I'm just whining or that I have no right to complain because the ticket prices aren't generating enough profit for the festival?!?!

ruggedmarlin15 said:The festival just isn't designed to be a money-maker. So, if you're looking for customer perks, you're out of luck. You just have to deal with it.

ruggedmarlin15

Then why on earth did they charge me full price for every single ticket at the box office?!?!?!😲

From what I’ve gathered, the release date in the States should be August 4th.

What I meant was the act of searching for and ultimately settling upon a psychological explanation for absolutely everything.

Is it not rather absurd when someone says, "I cut my finger and it hurts," only to be met with, "Oh, that isn't what it seems; you surely cut yourself because you have a complicated relationship with your mother, or perhaps you lack self-acceptance, or maybe you are secretly infatuated with your father"?🙄

Personally, I find it all feels far too much like that pervasive Oprah-meets-Dr. Phil style of psychologizing absolutely everything we see in modern American society, don't you think?
northernfalcon30 said:I truly believe that film magazines ought to be embraced by EVERY single viewer, regardless of their specific artistic tastes, so wouldn't you agree that this represents a genuine loss for our overall 'film culture'?

But if that is the case, what has become of our music scene, considering we haven't had a single dedicated music magazine left for years now?😢
Oh my goodness, Carol Jackson45, I simply cannot believe 😉
boldscout72 said:No, I am certainly not! I intended to convey exactly what I wrote. If there were more pieces of this caliber—if they were actually signed by someone like Jurekovic or xy—perhaps I wouldn't be facing this endless debate from you all. My point is simply that people seem to be entirely oblivious to style and to any criticism that differs from the perspective offered by Dragašev in Bestseler.

Look, I find myself completely unmoved by amateurish schoolboy prose, poorly written articles, cheap sentimentality, or those "playing journalist" types of stories
even when Dragašev is the one signing them!
(And who was he talking about when he claimed he felt like someone had smacked him right in the face with a raw steak at a concert? 🙄 )
gentlepuma20 said:Absolutely! And now, tell me, how many clubs in America are actually like Best, compared to how many are on the level of Kset? That is precisely where the heart of the matter lies.

Well, if that is the case, then why not sit down and compose a truly meaningful, Journalistic piece of work regarding this issue—one filled with insightful dialogue, hard data, thoughtful comparisons, and a rich tapestry of both external observations and personal commentary?!!!!

Instead of this rather pathetic, whimpering lamentation about sticking posters on walls or the failure to book opening acts at Marsh-močvari-jadnalinadnamcenazbeg....
The writing here feels incredibly forced, almost like a high school assignment penned by some pretentious teenager who just can't get over the fact that a club—oh, heaven forbid—actually wants to turn a profit...

Look, our music scene isn't perfect; it has its holes and its flaws, and personally, I think the idea of pairing Elemental and Ramirez together is pretty lame, but hey, I hate to be the one to say it—but we live in the real world...

The commercial scene is never going to function quite like the alternative scene, nor vice versa, and honestly, it’s perfectly normal, even desirable, to have both existing side-by-side...
It is completely standard that Tiger Beer doesn't get the same level of hype as let 3—so let's all just sit here and weep because Močvara isn't treating them with the exact same reverence as let 3 🙄.... and shall we throw stones at Močvara just because they want to sell tickets? As if an outdoor let 3 concert is organized out of pure altruism or a selfless desire to promote unproven indie bands...

Give me a break... grow up, author!
And please, spare us the cheap sentimentality, like that bit about Vesna Pisarović appearing on posters for Močvara....

Just as it is normal for there to be both mainstream and independent cinema, it is equally normal for there to be this kind of music and these kinds of clubs... and let us have our Best and Kseta... you have every right to visit one and skip the other, don't you?
