Acne, weight gain... is it Yasmin? in Women's Health ·
Fair point... I guess I’ll have to step up my game. 😉

plus, stress is probably playing a role. Believe me, whenever I'm stressed, a new problem pops up out of nowhere. But I’m not looking to fix that with some supplement; I’d rather make a conscious change, like actually trying to get some rest. Though, finding the time is its own struggle. 🤷

It sounds ridiculous, but I don't actually eat much. I move around a little, sure. I just don't have the bandwidth for a regular workout routine. Back when I was younger, I played sports every single day for eight years, so I was always in shape 😁.

As for stress, it's my biggest hurdle. I'm convinced it's tied directly to metabolism, but unfortunately, it's not something I can just switch off. 😢

Everything’s fine, hiddentiger20.

The point is, I never dealt with skin issues like this before. Not until I started taking birth control. There is zero chance I'm going back on them just to clear up acne.

My skin looks great today (I have some minor scarring, but I'm using Mederma so they're fading, and the breakouts are gone), but who knows how it'll look tomorrow. That's the whole issue. On top of that, weight has always been a struggle for me. But since the pill, things have spiraled. I don't even have my waistline anymore, which I used to maintain regardless of my weight. I can't seem to get rid of this midsection bloat. I thought it might be a thyroid thing, but my labs came back perfect.

I have no idea where I mentioned other pills 😕

I’m not planning on taking any of that stuff again. Period. I was simply asking if anyone else deals with similar issues and whether there are alternative tests besides thyroid panels that might yield results.

That’s it.
I never said my health wasn't a priority, nor did I say I wanted to switch to different pills.

So, what? I just sit here and wait for my system to completely flush itself out?

I’m certainly not going back to Yasmin just to deal with whatever mess she likely left me with.

Angela Flores76 said:Why were you even being sent for tests? It doesn't look like there's an issue per se, just the fallout from what you had to go through before. Because of the pills, now you're dealing with acne. Same as me. 😬

What do you mean, "why was I being sent for tests"? Obviously, something is off. I’m 28, and I assume I shouldn't be breaking out like this at my age. Since I was on the pill, I didn't deal with them earlier... Acne usually hits during puberty, right? And back then, I wasn't taking anything 😬 that could have "delayed" the breakout...

I've heard/read in plenty of places that the pill clears skin for some people, while for others, it causes exactly what I'm going through. I'm calling the dermatologist tomorrow to get an appointment. We'll see. And starting the day after, I'm hitting the gym hard.

After two years on Yasmin and two years prior on Triquilar—switched because Triquilar started messing with my mood and libido—I finally quit birth control last June. My first Pap smear in July flagged an infection, which I cleared up with some vaginal cream and pills. Follow-up was fine. Liver panels have always been normal.

Since then (though honestly, even during the six months leading up to quitting Yasmin), my skin has flared up with facial acne and weird breakouts on my back. I’ve put on some weight too, though nothing crazy; I've never been what you'd call "twiggy" anyway. 😁

The biggest perk of being on the pill was that I didn't feel my period at all—which is huge when you've been suffering through them since you were twelve. Because it was so easy, I probably ignored everything else. Like the acne.
However, things haven't improved since I stopped (it's been nearly a year now). The acne is still there, just as bad as ever. Every time I ask for advice on creams or treatments, everyone jumps to the same conclusion: it's hormonal. They see the breakouts—which I never had during puberty—and their first question is always, "Were you on Yasmin?"

After getting tired of those blunt questions, I went to my doctor. She sent me for blood work (standard liver panel) and a trip to the lab to check my thyroid hormones. Her diagnosis on the referral? Just "acne."
Both sets of results came back essentially perfect, aside from slightly high cholesterol.

Now I'm more confused than when I started. The acne hasn't budged. I'm seeing the doctor next Friday to go over the labs, and I have no idea where she'll send me. I'll definitely be seeing a dermatologist, though I know I should have done that sooner.

Has anyone here dealt with something similar? I could use some direction so I don't waste time wandering around. It seems pretty obvious that Yasmin left its mark, considering four different pharmacists brought it up without me saying a word.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post. 👋
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
I'm looking at a dermatologist myself. Never bothered before since I've never had any issues. What's the damage like regarding prices?

p.s. I was out of town, so I'm just now getting around to saying thanks 🙂

Thanks 🙂

But looking through medical texts in Italian—at least for now—I can't find any mention of the term "macchia" being used in a clinical sense, unless we're talking about skin spots or blemishes. 😢

I'm working on translating a termination letter and I'm stuck on the term "razmaz, u razmazima." It’s giving me trouble. Can anyone help me out with the English equivalent? I'm currently translating this into Italian...

Thanks!
Need help interpreting my MRI results in Health ·
My mom just had her lumbar MRI done. We’re waiting to sit down with the neurologist, but in the meantime, can anyone give me a quick breakdown of what this actually means:

Axial and sagittal views of the lumbosacral spinal canal show normal vertebral body height without pathological signals. The thoracolumbar spinal cord shows physiological signal intensity. Disc material shows signs of desiccation, which is expected given her age. At the L4/L5 segment, there is a mild dorsal circular disc bulging. At the L5/S1 segment—which is a lower disc—there is minimal dorsocentral prominence consistent with an incipient protrusion. The bony spinal canal is of normal dimensions. No signs of stenosis in the intervertebral foramina, except at the L5/S1 left side, which appears narrower. Mild osteoarthritic changes in the small joints with facet hyperplasia. Paraspinal musculature shows physiological signal.

From what I can gather, there’s no mention of a "classic" herniated disc here—which is strange, because every specialist she’s seen so far has been insisting on one. She ended up getting this MRI specifically to figure out if surgery is even a logical next step.

Thanks a lot!

The one I was looking at had a fixed interest rate.

But honestly, I’m actually looking forward to this—I heard Secretary Zamorac is planning to roll out some subsidized loans specifically for us teachers.🤣

I'm already ahead of you on all that. My plan is to leave my existing contracts with them and tap into the inter-fund financing program instead. That way, I'm not hitting those liquidity ceilings—assuming, of course, my credit score holds up for the amount I need.

The only silver lining in this whole mess is that fixed rate of 4.99%, dropping to 4.49% once we're fully transitioned to the dollar.

Donna Chase12 said:hm... why the phobia of them, though?
1. The main difference between a bridge loan and a standard mortgage once your savings kick in is basically how much cash you can actually pull out.
- Once that savings period hits, you can only grab 60% of the contract amount you set up when you first opened the account... and for most people, that's nowhere near enough money to actually buy an apartment or anything.

😲
I knew that.
So, it's a scam. I need way more than whatever that agreed-upon sum is.

That means I'll definitely have to take out a loan before the savings term expires.😢
In other words, I'll be forced into interim financing.

I’ve got a massive phobia regarding Goldman Sachs and debt. Construction delays have been a nightmare, and honestly, I’m feeling pretty rattled by the whole situation 🙂.

Our five-year savings period wraps up this November. We likely won't be looking at bridge financing; instead, we’ll be stepping into a "standard" loan. In plain English, is there any significant difference in the terms?
I’ve looked into the bridge financing options before—I even started gathering the paperwork—but everything hit a wall because of some technicalities they flagged. 🙂

Thanks!

Sophia Williams10 said:I’d honestly rather stick to apple cider vinegar, olive oil, garlic... all that natural stuff to lower my numbers, rather than deal with artificial additives from brands like Nestlé.

I recently read about a study done by a food science department analyzing dairy products in the US market; Nestlé ranked dead last, while maybe something like Horizon Organic took the top spot.

Well, go ahead and choke down that garlic, 😁, I'm passing 😳 on 😉

Joke aside, I used to follow a routine ages ago—every morning, just three ounces of warm water, three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and a spoonful of honey. 🤮

As for those product analyses? The less I know, the better. If we actually knew everything that went into our food, we wouldn't be eating anything at all. 😢

Picked some up at Billi today. $4.25. It’s pricey, but we'll see if it actually moves the needle. I'll stick to it for a month before getting bloodwork done.
